awesome, awesome read!

When the book first starts out, it¿s Nalena explaining her mom's hoarding addiction to paper and not finishing stories. All her mom does is write out a character and plots pretty much. And it¿s gotten so out of control they have to rent out storage units to put all the paper. It¿s really heartbreaking what Nalena goes through at home and at school. Once someone saw all the paper when unexpectantly showing up at her house, the whole school knew about it the next day....calling her The Waste. So when Garrett starts showing interest in Nalena at the library one night, she thinks either A) he obviously doesn¿t know she is the school¿s outcast or B) it¿s all a joke. But one night after being attacked in the woods, secrets start emerging surrounding not only her family but Garrett¿s family as well. Nalena must now make a choice on which path to take; the ¿safe¿Simple Life path or one that could lead her straight into the enemies¿ snare.

First of all, I just want to say how much I adore this book. So awesomely well written, I flew through the first half, only to pace myself as it got closer to the end. Cause with the end, comes waiting for the next book. AND.I.HATE.WAITING! But loved the characters, especially the whole Reese family. Garrett is adorable, funny, and absolutely scrumptious. (Ok cougar moment over). Would love to see more Sean in the future books. *cough* Could totally see a spin-off staring Garrett¿s older brother *cough* And even though Nali came off as weak at first, it didn¿t take long for her to become one kick butt character. But though there were times I wanted to shake/slap/yell at Garrett and Nali for not seeing what us readers could obviously see between them, I enjoyed the pace the story took in letting them find their way to each other.

Please, please go read this awesome first book to what is most definitely going to be an awesome series.

Pleasantly surprised

I was prepared to not really like this book, but once started, I couldn't put it down! And I bought the sequal "Keystone". Very very good and highly recommend. Don't let the paranormal type content put you off.....you'll be pleasantly surprised and will be glad you completed the book. I sure was!

iCornerstone at first seems like it's just your average, teenage girl that doesn't fit in and suddenly gets lucky when the popular guy starts to follow her around and ask questions/ Red Flags. She knows she's going to be the brunt of some cruel joke by some girls that don't like her. In fact, no one likes her. They call her the Waste because she lives with her mother in a home filled high with paper. Stacks upon stacks of paper that her mother writes on, stories she starts but never finishes. And once, a long time ago, when she was trying to make friends, a girl came by unannounced and saw all the paper, hence the name. Now Nalena doesn't know why Garrett is asking questions about her or showing up at her library table or defending her. And what's with this crazy stuff happening with her out of body experiences. And the man in the woods with the shovel trying to kill her? All very good questions that get answered in due time.

Mom and Nalena have been on there own forever, living on welfare and suddenly Nalena finds this whole big family living right under her nose and that there is a purpose to her mother's writing and that there is a community that would pay for her services. And then there is Garrett. Because of a perceived threat on Nalena and her mother Evangeline's life, the two move into the home of Garrett's parents. This is tough as Nalena is majorly crushing on Garrett and she is getting mixed signals from him. There are highs and lows for them throughout their time together But the romance is not rushed at all. It is slow and even when their feelings for each other are clear, Garrett wants to take things slow. Refreshing for YA!

Many lows come towards the end of the novel and there is a sneak peak into the second novel. If it's as good as the first it will be bought as soon as it is available. The author has a way with words, that I really enjoyed. Her metaphors like "my thoughts drift like feathers in a fan" and "but she laughs, a fluttery streamer of a laugh that doesn't float with me."

I really enjoyed the complexity of the novel and the side stories that went along with it. I can't wait to see where it's headed and I hope you'll take my advice and don't pass this one up! It's an awesome read!

So Good!

I literally couldn't put this book down. I read it at stoplights. I read it while walking down the hall. I put it in my lap at work and read it under the cover of the desk so no one would know. The writing style was so refreshing and Nali so believable that I cannot wait for the next one!

I just want to read the Series !!Like Now this book is AMAZING!! I give The writers All yhur props i loved It !! Make more Please !!!!

Distraction

The book was really good but the editors failed to fix the improper pronouns. It's terribly distracting to read "I" when it should be "me." And it happened frequently, thus pulling me out of the story to lament upon English grammar education.

Ridiculed because her mother is a hoarder, Nalena does everything she can to just blend in and avoid the majority of her high school class. Until one night at the library, Garrett, a senior hottie sits down at her table. As her home life becomes turned upside down by secrets her mother has been forced to keep from her – Nalena has to choose between protecting herself and her mother or living a Simple Life.

You will like Nalena and feel for her as events unfold – she is a really great character.

I was so pleasantly surprised by this book – I cannot wait to dive into Keystone!

Enjoyed It, Looking Forward to the Sequel!

With a great idea, a solid protagonist voice, and plenty of quirky one-liners, Misty Provencher swept me along from start to finish in about a week. I hear she's releasing a sequel....I hope so! I'm half in love with Garrett my own self, and the way authors handle grief and change of identity in teens fascinates me.

The writing is solid and well-paced, without any noticeable slow downs. There were a few minor contradictions, but she writes raw sensation so well that I hardly noticed them. Nali is a great voice- compassionate, independent, strong-willed, and very real. And there are some passages and comments that I want to get embroidered and hang on my wall. I'm very glad Provencher worked to make this novel see the light of day. I'd say it has slightly Christian leanings, which would normally turn me off (not being Christian and not liking dogmatic rhetoric), but it's more spiritual than Christian. And the idea IS pretty nifty.

I recommend this one for fans of YA, both contemporary and fantastical, though the setting is contemporary. This makes a great poolside/beach/vacation read!

Really glad one of my nook friends recommended this book to me! 200 something pages long. I strarted it today and only have 50pages left. Its so, it just keeps me reading! Its 1 :40 am. And i am finally just goingto finish it tomorrow. But, I highly reconmend this book!! the beginning turned out to be something i wasnt expecting learning whyyy Nelenas mother hoarded paper! This is definitely one of those books that had me HOOKED from the beginning. I found myself COMPLETELY rooting for Nalena and her mother--no matter how "excentric" she seemed at first. From the beginning I could see that Nalena was one of those protagonists who is believable and relatable even amidst a supernatural storyline.

What teenager HASN'T been embarrassed by a parent at some point? What teenager HASN'T felt like an outsider? Even amongst their own family? What teenager doesn't feel like the world is against them, sometimes? And what adult doesn't remember feeling all of these things, as well?

There were moments when I could almost FEEL Nalena's frustration over being kept in the dark regarding pretty much everything in her life. And THAT is how I believe this story draws in its audience. There is convincing emotional turmoil packed with an exciting, romantic, and EXTREMELY original plot.

Ms. Provencher builds a world that is unlike any other that I've read. It was really nice reading this story and NOT being able to guess what was going to happen next. There was no predictability here. I was frequently taken aback with curveballs that I found absolutely refreshing and brilliant!

And the ROMANCE! OHHHH, the romance. It's so subtle and unhurried, but SOOOO sweet. I am very eager to see what becomes of Nalena and her beau in the next installment.

I more than suggest that you read this book! I INSIST that you read this book!

I just finished this book nd i LOVED it, i read in the back that the second one was called keystone so im going to look for it after i finish this review. Soooo good..read it in 2 days but thats bc i had to put it down. Trust me i didnt want to. I took my nook everywhere with me to sneak in a few lines/pages when possible. Have already recommended it to my nook friends.
