Overview

Here are forty of the most curious events in world history. Though they span the centuries and circle the globe, they share one common trait: all were too peculiar to make it into the standard history books. Read these fascinating accounts and learn about: The craze for consuming powdered mummy to cure all ailments, The medieval courtroom advocate who pled the case of plaintiff rats, The U.S. president who was shot by an assassin but killed by his doctors' earnest efforts to treat him. If you thought you knew all you needed to know about history, this book will show you some truly curious gaps in your knowledge.

    Oddly entertaining...

I found this book on the discount table (I think). I flipped through it and thought it would be an interesting coffee table book - something for people to pick up when they have a few minutes to spare. It's interesting alright - and a little on the "odd" side, too. Some of the "events" are dark and sad but if they're true, then it's history to be known, right? Everything in the book was news to me. For the price, it was a decent pick.

Quick, fascinating run through the weird

This small, inexpensive book provides a breezy run through the weird and wacky events in human history. The stories are short (3 pages), making it the perfect bathroom companion.

    Perfect coffee table book

Great compilation of short stories of history that normally wouldn't come to attention. Not a serious reader, but entertaining. Great for the coffee table.

    Trivial pursuit-like

Interesting random events. Light easy reading. A good "stocking stuffer".
