Overview

(Book 1 Eriksson Series)

With a murderous secret and a dark history few but Helen Eriksson know, an uncertain path lies ahead of her. Helen's past, present and future are on a collision course with a sense of morality she wonders if she ever possessed.

Her husband's corpse is barely cold, laid to rest under a shroud of suspicion directed at her by former peers at the FBI. Revenge boils in her veins against the one who shattered her perfect life, or the carefully constructed illusion of such. One thing Helen does not believe is that coincidences happen. So when an opportunity falls into her lap to slip through the web of the FBI investigation into her ex-husband's murder and darken the doorstep of the man she holds responsible for her professional ruin, Helen is hard pressed to resist the lure.

Rather than arriving in Darkwater Bay anonymously, Helen walks with full knowledge into what she understands could be a trap sprung by her nemesis, Danny Datello. But the shield of a police detective's badge can't protect her from what she fears she has become by genetic birthright – a hardened murderer just like the father who shaped her into the woman she has become.

What Helen doesn't count on is investment in anything but her own plot of revenge. To her surprise, the discovery of a body mere hours before her arrival in Darkwater Bay draws her into more than her own conflicted desires, but a corrupt city with its own secrets. Even more shocking is the realization that Helen craves more than Datello's punishment; justice for a dead victim.

Excellent! This author shows rare psychological sophistication in her writing. The characters are complex and enagaging. As a psychologist myself, I was impressed with the clinical detail which is realistic, but presented in a way that anyone can understand. The plot line in each book is engaging, but the themes that carry from one book to the other are even more interesting. After finishing this first book, I was thrilled to find that the whole series is free! Although I am only just beginning the second book, I am hooked...and looking forward to seeing how the main character resolves her conflicts. Well done!

An awesome books despite the necessary set up. Enough action and caring to counter the angst of the story.
Background: The protagonist is the daughter of an assassin who also kidnapped children. He has been in prison for 19 years and insisted she disassociate herself from him. She has always lived by his rules that include never getting close to anyone, but she once she moves to Darkwater, people keep touching her in ways that she has never allowed. As a retired FBI profiler, she is trying to help the town get cleaned up from its bad reputation.
In the current case, a girl's beheaded body has turned up. The evidence links the crime to a an open case from 15 years earlier.

    Slow start...then it gets good!

This book was short of 800 pages on my tablet...the start was a bit slow for me because there are so many characters being introduced. And you aren't sure if what you're thinking the main character is tell you about her self is what is happening or not. But once I got a few chapters in I was hooked. I have the next 3 books and I'm looking forward to reading them!

    Can't go wrong!

Truthfully, I read anywhere from 3-5 books a week. It can get expensive so I usually try the freebies to see what's out there. I stumbled upon Daddy's Little ki0ller when I had some down time, and I couldn't stop reading. LS Sygnet has quickly become a favorite of mine and it is because less is more. Sygnet gives the reader the perfect amount of description and dialogue to make the reader understand the mind of a criminal profiler. Absolutely, a spectacular read!

    DEFINATELY NOT WORTH IT!!!!!!

I started this book but it had too much language and i stopped, the author also made this wayyyy to confusing, she was trying tooooo hard, she was way over descriptive, she kept on describing things that she had already described. My advice, this book isn't worth anyones time to read it, and i'm so glad this book was free or would have just wasted money buying it!
