Overview

It's been three months since former enforcer Amaranthe Lokdon and the notorious assassin Sicarius thwarted kidnappers and saved the emperor's life. The problem? Nobody knows they were responsible for this good deed. Worse, they're being blamed for the entire scheme. With enforcers and bounty hunters stalking them, and the emperor nursing a personal hatred for Sicarius, it's going to be hard to earn exoneration.

When Amaranthe's team discovers mutilated bodies in the city aqueducts and a mysterious illness incapacitates thousands of citizens, she and Sicarius see an opportunity to solve the mystery and prove their loyalty. But they'll have to defeat vengeful shamans, man-eating predators, and deadly mechanical constructs, all while dodging imperial soldiers who would rather kill them than accept their help.

Nobody said exoneration would be easy.

Meet the Author

I've been writing fantasy novels and short stories since I was seven. I've been finishing them since... well, that's a more recent development.

I'm a professional blogger for my day job, and I live in the Seattle area ("area" is code for "I couldn't afford a house within twenty miles of the city limits and my neighbors have alpacas"). I have two vizslas who are as spoiled as most people's kids. Occasionally they let me leave the house to play tennis, go to the coffee shop, take a yoga class, or plot with co-conspirators on how best to take over the world. (One of those items may be untrue, but I won't tell you which.)

I read Dark Currents in a day & a half. The story moved along so quickly & I enjoyed seeing the characters unfold & learn more about them. I liked that this book showcased the character 'Books' giving him a chance to be seen. If I understand correctly the author plans to do this for each of the secondary characters in the coming books. If you haven't read the first novel I would suggest starting there as you may be quite lost without the back story. If you enjoyed Emporor's Edge you will also like Dark Currents.

I found this author quite by chance and I'm so glad I did! Her characters are intriguing, the story is imaginative, and every minute is enjoyable! Well done! I will continue to read all that she writes.

The more i read the hard it is to stop reading. I think that this series is one of the best that i have read in awhile. I only can hope that this will become a hard cover copy so that i can add it to my home library.

I've said it before, and I'll say it again. I'm really loving steampunk stories! This book picks up several months after the events of Emperor's Edge. Amaranthe's team are still getting to know each other, and everyone (except Amaranthe) are still deathly afraid of Sicarius. The author does a tremendous job of creating unique personalities for her characters. I laughed many times as Amaranthe tried to get Sicarius to suppress his "assassinly" qualities. The fight scenes were well described, the machinery was completely believable, and the world Buroker created was very easy to picture. I eagerly, and I do mean eagerly, look forward to the next in the series! Great job! Two thumbs (way the hell) up!!

Followed in the First Books Footsteps I really enjoyed Dark Currents and found the story moved along quickly. You definitely want to read the first book The Emperor's Edge to familiarize yourself with the characters, but this is a great sequel. Looking forward to reading the next book!

Book one grabbed you and number two will make you a devotee for the rest of the series. You won't find a better series anywhere. Buroker is the best thing to happen to ScFi/fantasy in years. MC

I have read and listened to this book at least 5 times. Each time it gets better. Lindsay is a great author. She makes her characters come to life and her fans feel alive.
