The only reason i bought this book was to see what was going on with everyone. I have followed this series from the beginning and like to know about the characters and how each are doing. However i just flipped through this book, i did not read every page as i did not like the way it was written. I have said that i would not buy anymore books from this author as i do not like the way she has changed the feel of this series. She has done it with every series, all because it is trending, and i am terribly dissappointed about that. I loved the way the books used to be like gregoris or julians, heck i loved darius and dayans stories. The carpathians have always been dominant but with a side of sweet and tender to make you love them. However the style this author has decided to write ALL of her series in lately is more dominance and erotica. It is like it is no longer even the same series that i fell in love with. I am done with this author now. I will no longer spend my money on any books written by her as they are truly dissappointing to me.

I have loved this series - the stories of the Carpathians But now, it's all about sex , dominance , and more sex. What happened to the story lines? Last one for me.

Unfortunately, this book did not meet expectations. There were a few times I giggled, but I found it quite tedious to read. I usually find myself rereading Christine Feehan books, however; I got bored with the constant sex and lack of story line. I think these last two books were two too many.

This was sad i have seen more plot in porn then in this book. I prefer a great story with a little sex mixed in. This was sex overkill. Please go back to the formula of the first books they were a joy to read.

Lots of sex but it got boring fast. I miss when there was actually a whole story to read. For almost $14 I expected more. Sad.

I feel like Feehan books are competing for the 50 Shades marketplace. If you want to reabook about women being forced to have sex, and no plot line at a premium place, this the book for you. One of te best part about feehans books was the community of people and cultures that they live in. We dream about those people and cultures. But books like this lack it all. There is no new information in the new stories because their entire focus is sex. It is such a disapointment. This will likely be my last Feehan book.

Once more I am disappointed in the excessive sex and the lack of plot. Finally at almost the end we got s little story line. I thought this was a paranormal series but it felt more like erotica. The earlier books in the series were much better.

I enjoy a good story;not so much sexual activitied. The previous stories had great storylines. More of that and less sex. Also, one couple' s story at a time. Please go back to the style of the earlier stories. More fighting!!!

I'm so disappointed in this book. I know that Romantica sells, but this is more like porn. I should have read the reviews on the book before buying this, and saved myself some money. But "it's a Feehan" I though, "and a new Dark novel. I'll finally get more storyline and move further along her intriguing plot twists". Instead I'm rather ticked off on how I was tricked into buying this item. ( I refuse to call it a book). I'm even madder that I paid for the preorder of the upcoming item in this use-to-be-phenomenally-wonderful series, before reading this item. I'll say this, if the next one is anything like this item...it will be my last Feehan. I'll get a verbal cliff notes version from friends who haven't yet been totally disgusted by having maybe 2-3 paragraphs per chapter devoted to the story, and the rest just sex scenes. I have to wonder ( and hope - because then the issue can be resolved ) if she actually wrote this one, the style is so removed from the beautifully wonderfully stories and plot development of the past books. Is someone ghosting for Feehan? It would explain so much of how things went so wrong!

I am getting sort of tired of her books. Nobody does anything but have sex. I hate to say it but, it is getting boring.

I have found that Christine Feehan is embracing a more erotic style of writing. She may be pleasing a whole new audience. Unfortunately, I beleve she is gradually losing her older audience. We read for the story and characters and the romance. Sex, especially painful or bdsm is not romance. If I wanted that kind I would read the erotic genre. Some of it is excellent and imaginative. These sex scenes are repetative and similar.

The book is good but got tired of the profanity.

Like most of the reviews, Dark Promise wasn't my favorite, by no means at all. It was probably the worst one in this series that I've read yet. But, i will say that there were some parts that I did like. The conflict at the beginning between Gabrielle and Gary was unusual for Feehan's books and I loved it. I also loved the end, how they helped the ancients find their lifemates. But I will agree with everyone else that there was waaayyy too much sex. I don't mind the sex part of the book, who doesn't? But I will agree that the majority of the book was sex scenes and barely anything else. I don't mind that Gabrielle was a bit submissive, that's her personality and it was Aleski's to be dominant. There was hardly any conflict in the whole story and i miss the actual storyline that the rest of her books had. The whole Trixie thing sort of grossed me out. This woman was sixty years old and you're writing sex scenes? Ew. I get that the author wanted to have an older woman as one of the lifemates in contrast to the rest of the young ones, but really? Did she really have to be sixty? The story could've been arranged so that she was younger. A forty year old woman would've been fine and less disgusting to read about during the sex scenes. And to suggest that she would have children later on? Gross, no offense to the older ladies reading this by the way. I'm hoping that the last two books in this series have been nothing more than flukes, or perhaps simply filler stories to get to the real story ahead. Christine Feehan is one of my favorite authors and I would be sorely disappointed if I lost one of my favorites to the "Fifty Shades Craze" where it's all sex and no storyline. I hope she is reading the reviews and thoughts of her fans and doing something to change that and not just relying on the series to sell itself anymore. Either way, I will be waiting for the next book, waiting, and hoping, that it will be better than the last two have been.

Used to love her books and could not wait until the next one came out. Now, they are sex books with a few pages of a story. With one book, you get a lot of sex; this has 2 stories in it so it is mostly sex. I have never had a book that I kept turning the page trying to find them doing anything else but having sex. I paid $14 to skip most of the book. When you take the sex out of the book, there's nothing left and no story. Please start putting an actual storyline in your books or just shut down the series. I really don't want to waste my time or money anymore. Will not buy any more of your books until I have read reviews saying you went back to making the books like we the readers have come to expect from the series.

I have read this series from the beginning. Will not be buying anymore . The writers are bouncing all over the place and don't remember what was already written in other books . This book seemed more of a collection of unfinished stories. The erotica I can also do without.
Anonymous More than 1 year ago
Its the same book as the last 20 books. Except the "hero s"are becoming more jackassery by the book. And the women more submissive. I much preferred the first half dozen or so. I think im done with this series. Also 3 words. OLD PEOPLE SEX! gross! .

I've followed Christine Feehan since her first book of Dark Prince was released and she's an automatic buy, however after this book I truly believe that I'm going 'borrow' before buying. Why? Well, usually her books have action with fight scenes against vampires and such but not his book, there were about two or three fight scenes and one fight lasted 5 pages and then the WHOLE other book was nothing but sex. That's right, sex scenes on top of sex and on top of sex scenes. She moved between three different couples with the sex scenes and from at least one couple you think she would have some kind of action but nope, just more sex. I got to the point of just flipping through the pages in the end of the book to escape all the sex. I don't mind them and usually enjoy them but it got soooooo tedious to read them. That's right . TEDIOUS to read ALL about the sex. Christine Feehan is killing her series with the lack of character development and action, its just straight to sex. AND by the way, the whole first chapter was full of beautiful detail of the wedding and then... I hated what happened. Blah Two stars.

Its consistent with the series but not one of her better works. Seems to just be a bridge to additional story lines.

Wow! That is the best word to describe Dark Promises! This is truly Christine Feehan at her finest! ****** This review does have some SLIGHT SPOILERS but if you read the book blurb, you can read between the lines of what is going on in the book. It is just elaborating on that. ****** Wow! That is the best word to describe Dark Promises! This is truly Christine Feehan at her finest! I was an emotional wreck while reading this one! I'm not kidding! Big wet tears! I never seen it coming! My mind was screaming and crying, "Why!! How can this be"!!
It's completely not where I thought their journey was headed but I grew to love the new spin, and I can see why things developed as they did. My heart hurts for all the Carpathians that have yet to find their lifemate, but Gary is just tearing me up inside!
Gabrielle has loved Gary Jansen for a long time. He made her feel safe when her world was falling apart. When she was turned Carpathian to save her life years ago, she put her human dreams to the side to help research solutions to their problems. She has held on to her humanity and hasn't accepted her new life. She doesn't like change and nothing will ever be the same again.
Now that Gary is fully Carpathian, their should be nothing to stand in their way of finally being together. Except, something neither of them can control ... fate.
Even though your heart will be breaking at one point, keep reading. I can understand why it all changed. Gabrielle and Gary may end up leading separate paths but he will always be in her heart.
Aleksei is one of my favorite Carpathian males yet!
He is ancient, dominate, deadly and on the very edge of darkness but has chosen the honorable path. When he hears his lifemate cry for another male, all bets are off and he succumbs to his dark side. He has endured for so long just to find she loves another. He has no intention of sharing any part of her, and he goes extreme alpha male on her! He is exactly the kind of man Gabrielle needs and he is determined to show her all the ways they can be great together.
Aleksei ignites a hunger in Gabrielle that she never dreamed was possible.
She is feeling so many different emotions so fast, but she knows Aleksei is what she needs. He is who, she wants to spend her life with. She is tormented over how things ended up with Gary and she wants to make it right with him but also not hurt Aleksei in the process.
Together they have a lot to over come and there are enemies seeking to destroy their newfound hope.
We also have Trixie to brighten things up!
She was awesome! Hilarious! I loved her! Vampire hunting kit and all! I liked seeing her over come her insecurities about her age and her lifemate was perfect for her. I really loved seeing their relationship grow! If anyone deserved happiness it was her! Teagan, Trixie and Gabrielle are fast friends and together they will give hope to all the Carpathians! I loved every minute of this book and hated to see it end! The thrilling blend of dark passion and all consuming love will leave you breathless! Again I will say this is Christine Feehan at her finest! Reviewed by Kristin

What was once an engaging continuous story of the lives, struggles and loves of the Carpathian and thier life mates, has turned into little more than erotica and fluff. Thankfully I didn't pay for the book, a friend passed it on. Done with Feehans books as her other series have also gone the way of fifty shades...

I have read this entire series. I did enjoy parts of this book, like meeting the ancients of the fort. But this book wasn't my favorite.
