Never met a male siren before?
You're about to....
I grew up as a prince...
And lead the life of a King.
There isn't anyone or anything that doesn't want me, that isn't attracted to me. They can't help it. And I sure as hell don't want them to. I live for their lust, I crave touch like an addiction, I make them beg on their knees for one, simple, caress.
As a male siren it's my job to feed off emotion.
And I was happy to do it.
I am happy to do it.
What I'm not happy about? Being told I have to mate with some withering human and stay loyal to that one person for the next few centuries. There's a war coming and being the idiot I am--I offered to take one for the team in order to help a friend.
Now my sexual appetite is taking a freaking kick in the nuts.
And I'm left wondering if it's worth it.
If she's worth it, with messy hair and dirty human hands.
But I have a world to save.
A job to do.
Now, if only, she would just let me do it rather than fighting me at every turn. I've lived lifetimes as the most irresistible being on the planet.
Only to meet my match.
They say hells hot. They're wrong.
Because Hope, my little human, is way hotter.
And before this is over--she may just singe me alive.

The reviewer from 12/15 is wrong. This book is not chopy with randum thoughts. Alex's story was great and the background flash backs really help fill in some of the series gaps. I will say that a pet peeve of mine is when a writer forgets what her charecter is doing, for example, Alex's shirt is off one minute and two pages later its back on being taken off again or Alex is lying on the coffee table and a page later its now the kitchen table. Small issues, great story!
I usually love her books. However, this book was awful. The writing was so choppy. It had random thoughts that were hard to follow. Not her best.
‘Sex with Alex had been out of this world. Making love with Alex – was going to alter my world. Then again, that was what love did, wasn’t it?’ ಌ Hope ☆Minor spoilers alert☆ The Immortals gang rally around Alex as he and Hope, his half-human and half-elf mate, try to figure out why they seem so familiar to each other and if any of their attraction goes beyond the irresistible sway Alex’s siren abilities have on any living thing. On top of that, there's the ongoing dark versus light war to deal with which is also why the Immortals have to mate and how they are strengthen as a result. Some really surprising details and outcomes were revealed as the Immortals regained their memories of past events and survived to continue to fight on the side of light. I really enjoyed the banter between Mason and Alex tons. And that kind of threesome scene between Alex, Hope and Mason was really cleverly done and didn't disgust me as it could've done. Overall, I liked the multiple character point of views, humor, sexy scenes, and how the informative flashbacks worked really well with the quick pacing of this third installment in the Dark Ones series. I’m looking forward to reading how Mason’s torment ends with his vampire mate in the next standalone novel in this series.
Dark Surrender (The Dark Ones #3) By: Rachel Van Dyken 4.5 Star Review by KristieK Scorching hot in more ways than one, Dark Surrender leaves you panting and begging for more… Alex is the most powerful of his kind, a siren with gifts beyond the imagination of everyone around him, including Alex himself. An untapped force grows within him, and only one thing can bring him to his full potential… Hope is a simple human, earning her way in life by serving at the immortal compound. It’s a dirty job, playing in the dirt all day caring for the plants they are so fond of. When she becomes the unwanted mate of an immortal, a deep untapped power of her own comes to light. Will Hope be able to fulfill her destiny? Dark Surrender continues the saga of The Dark Ones, this time with the story of Alex, the resident siren with a chip on his shoulder. Even though Dark Surrender is part of a series, it can be read as a standalone with only a meager amount of confusion and catching up before everything makes sense. As a lover of all things paranormal, this book was right up my alley. I am embarrassed to say it was the first of this series that I have read, BUT after finishing this one I intend to go back and read the other two! Dark Surrender was chock full of suspense, angst, and a lot of sexual tension. I was hooked from the first page to the last, and enjoyed every last word. The story flowed easily, the plot well thought out and wonderfully executed. There were twists and turns, and the heat these two generated would melt glass. Truly an intoxicating and sexy read, that will stay with me for a long time to come. Kristie K.
Alex is an immortal, a Siren to be exact. It is now his turn to mate, not something he is looking forward to. So Cassius chooses three women from him to pick from. When Alex sees Hope, he knows there is something different about her, but is just not sure what. This was a great story, it had me trying to guess what came next, which I really had no clue. I loved how their story played out, it was not anything like I expected. To me it shows we all have our struggles and for some people it's being lonely or not feeling wanted. It also shows love comes in all different ways. I really enjoyed Alex and Hope and all of the other characters we have come to love from the prior two books. Looking forward to Mason's story!!
He tasted like rain, like water–life. I couldn’t kiss him hard enough, or get close enough.” If you’ve been following this series for a while, you’re probably like me and have just been dying to get your hands on Alex’s story. Alex captured my interest from the very first moment his character was introduced, and I have to tell you, Alex’s story was everything that I needed it to be. In Dark Surrender, we finally get Alex’s story. A war is coming and there is only one way to stop it. So, Alex decides to take one for the team, after all humanity and the world is at stake. But, he never thought that his actions would work against him…..Hope is the ultimate game changer. She gives Alex a run for his money and fights him at every turn. Only no matter how much she wants to fight him, fate has other plans for these two. Will Alex and Hope be able to save the world? And will Alex take a chance on the one thing he never thought he could have? There is only one way to find out… Dark Surrender was a quick and enjoyable read. I loved the setting and the paranormal aspects. I was captivated by Alex and Hope’s story from the very beginning and found myself having a hard time putting this book down. I thought that Alex and Hope had amazing chemistry and I loved the pull they had for one another. The two of them shared some down right steamy scenes, but you could tell that there was more to them than just sexual chemistry. I really enjoyed visiting with characters from the previous stories and am excited about some new characters that were introduced. There is one character in particular that I am hoping story will be told next! Fingers crossed. It should be mentioned that while this is the third book in the series, I do feel that it can be read and enjoyed as a stand-alone novel. Dark Surrender is fast-paced and hit all the marks for me. It was fun and entertaining. It had the signature RVD humor that I can not get enough of. The plot was spellbinding and had me devouring the pages. I can not wait to see what adventure this author has in store for me next!
4.25 Witchy Stars Alex truly is a siren, he drew me right into these pages! I love this series and I can not wait for Mason’s book! But this, this one is Alex. Alex must find his mate..the fate of humanity rest on it. The whole gang is here and frankly I got lost a little in this one..I’m not sure why..but I had a little trouble following but still a most enjoyable read. "He kissed my body until I lost track of time. Until my body ached for more. And when I cried out for him. He kept kissing. He worshipped with his mouth, he pleasured with his hands, and he did it over and over again. Sex with Alex had been out of this world. Making love with Alex —was going to alter my world. Then again, that was what love did, wasn’t it?" There is one scene in here that will have your jaw dropping and wondering what is going on…I literally said “whaaat” but it’s all great and so very hot! Alex really is kind of a pig and there’s not a lot of growth from that pig status. Maybe a little. I think he is my least favorite character in this series. But his Siren Song will still draw you in. Great entertainment here…action, adventure, heat and of course RVD’s signature quirky humor…all right here. This is a stand alone but to get the full series effect I recommend you read the first two books. A really great series.
This book is fabulous, I could not put it down. Great characters, story, humor and romance. I can't wait to read about Mason!!! When does the next book come out??
EEP! Alex and Hope! What do you get when you have a gorgeous siren that feels that he can't be loved for himself and a woman, Hope, who doesn't fall at his feet like all other people and things? Well Alex is perplexed, why does she not react like everyone else? Hope has no idea why she has been chosen to meet with this immortal. She waters plants and tries not to kill them. She's terrified of Alex but there's something about him that calls to her. Poor Alex and Hope have so much going against them then the usual issues that immortals have. Will they be able to work through them before all is lost? You will get to see the other immortals that we know and get to find out more of the past. I honestly don't think I'd like to be Cassius, just saying. When you think all is lost, remember there is always Hope. Another great addition to this series!
