Overview

After a sea operation gone wrong, Navy SEAL Rita Sawyer awakens to find herself still clad in her wetsuit and in a cage with a bunch of Vikings staring at her, including one very tempting warlord.

Steven of Norstead has been in a cold, dark mood for many weeks. But perhaps this unusual woman, with her sharp tongue and irksome ways, could be the one to light his fire.

    more from this reviewer

Filled with jocularity from start to finish, fans of the saga will relish this enjoyable entry

Navy SEALs Commander MacLean and Lieutenant Mendozo persuade stuntwoman Rita Sawyer to join the WEALs (Women on Earth, Air, Land and Sea) program. However, during an operation that goes terribly wrong, Rita in her wetsuit awakens inside a cage with a horde of barbarians staring at her with their mouths open.

Ever since his brother Thorfinn (see Viking Unchained) vanished without a trace, Viking Lord Steven has been depressed. When his men find the unconscious female in strange garb, they assume she is a sea monster. However, Rita proves she is a strong twenty-first century woman who has no idea how she ended up in the early eleventh century. As the admiration she and Steven feel for each other grows, they begin to fall in love but though each appreciates the other's culture, a millennium makes love seem shaky.

Although similar in tone to the other time traveling Viking-SEAL romantic thrillers, Dark Viking is an exhilarating tale as once again Sandra Hill uses the differences and similarities between the two cultures to tell a strong tale of love that has no time boundaries. The lead couple is a strong pairing as each uses humor with she bringing him out of his depression and he helping her customize to his era. Filled with jocularity from start to finish, fans of the saga will relish this enjoyable entry.

    Very much recommended

The book is relevant to how women were treated back in that era. After taking a college course and the history of the Noregion type areas (viking were cover)the facts in the book is accurate. Don't base the book on what happened back then and what is socially unacceptable now. Very well written book and will give a couple of good giggles.

It was a great story at first then the dog leash ruined everything. Another romance story degrading and mistreating women. This is a harsh review.

The story began promising but then as punishment for not asking the man permission she was forced to be lead around all day by a chain and dog leash. Degrading and humilating her to the enjoyment of all the males and females. I find it sad and disturbing that letting the woman know she is nothing more than a dog is a statement of love to some people. the strenght of the femal charachter was ruined by this, the male nothing but a joke. But you know it is all good because when the dog leash is removed she can save a young teen from a beating if she contiues to have sex with him. So here is another deranged true love couple in a demented romance novel. The viking had to remain in good standing for his soldiers after all and so she had to be degraded by becoming his dog/ slave. It made me sick. I have no respect for Sandra Hill making profit from this kind of abusive and degrading realtionships. If degrading and blackmailing is consdered love to anyone than I feel sorry them. I will never read another book from her and will be deleting this one from my ereader. The dog leash had no point in the story except for the sick cheap thrill that some sick individuals recieve from degrading and abusing women. Disapointing that the potential of this story was ruined in this way.

    disappointing

willowhaven is right. I enjoyed the book until Rita was chained like a dog. Then she was blackmailed to have sex with Steven. She shouldn't have let him manipulate her that way. The only reason she would allow that is if she enjoyed the debasement - so not my type. She is supposed to be a member of WEALS but there was no action at all. I bought the book because I thought a WEALS and a Viking Warrior would give us not just a love story but action as well. Just imagine the surprise of the Vikings if Rita got the chance to show off her training. Rita might as well have been a model instead of a stunt woman/soldier. Very disappointing.
