Overview

The Summer King is missing; the Dark Court is bleeding; and a deadly stranger walks the streets of Huntsdale. . . .

Aislinn tends to the Summer Court, searching for her absent king and yearning for Seth. Torn between his new queen and his old love, Keenan braces for the coming war. Donia longs for fiery passion and readies the Winter Court for battle. And Seth, heir to the High Queen, is about to make a mistake that could cost his life.

Love, despair, and betrayal ignite the Faerie Courts, and in the thrilling conclusion of the bestselling Wicked Lovely series, some will win . . . and some will lose everything.

Editorial Reviews

VOYA
In this final book in the Wicked Lovely series, Marr tries to sum up previous goings-on, but it helps greatly to have read the previous four novels. The intrigues and statuses of various characters are mutable and one almost needs a score sheet to keep track of who is mortal, who is fae, and who is in-between. Like the other titles in this series, Darkest Mercy focuses heavily on relationships and power struggles, rather than on action. Things liven up only when Bananach, the faery of War, appears on the scene. The Summer Court has formed a tenuous alliance with the Winter Queen. The Dark King has lost his love, and appears to be going mad. The High Queen has been trapped in Faerie and is unable to interfere with things in the mortal realm. The various faerie courts end up working together to fight Bananach, and does anyone doubt that there will be a happy ending? Marr focuses on the couplings and the deep feelings of the characters. There is not a lot of action until the very end, when a battle is pitched in a warehouse, and even then, the description of the fight is vague and the focus is on how the characters feel. Fans of the series will be delighted with the pairings-off and the comeuppance of the evil characters. Readers may mourn the end of the series, but they will be pleased with how Marr, a proper romance writer, gives everyone their hearts' desire. Reviewer: Geri Diorio

    Great ending to this series!!

DARKEST MERCY, by Melissa Marr, is the final book in the Wicked Lovely series. The previous books lead up to a action-filled, suspenseful, and romantic ending to the series.

No character was safe in this book. The faeries that I got to know and love throughout the series were tested to their limits against the prospect of a fight against War. I liked the multiple POV structure of this book. Marr weaved her characters in and out of each other's lives to create an amazing web of intrigue and suspense. The pressure of the Courts to be strong overwhelmed the reagents, and I was curious to see how far they would all go to protect their fey.

The love quadrangle between Ash, Keenan, Seth, and Donia supplied some heavy sexual tension. Marr definitely tortured her characters through their decisions, and in turn I, as the reader, was tortured! Some incredible events transpired just between these characters but it was astonishing and such a perfect path laid for these characters which I never saw coming.

My only disappointment was the ending of this series. I will always pick up a book that Marr writes and these books will stay in my library for a long time. It is sad to see the end but I am very pleased with the result.

A cover note: How GORGEOUS is the cover? The Wicked Lovely Series has always been know for its great covers but I think this one blows them all away. That flower and the colors make this book one to pick up even if you have not read the series. Major props to the art department on this one

Enchanting. Living up to its name, the series was truly wicked lovely. It ended phenomenally all the while being a page-turner from the very start. It's books like these that make me wish fantasy could somehow become reality. I love each of the books immensely, and I implore the ambivalent prospector to give this series a try.

    At last!

Throughly enjoyed the entire series. Melissa Marr tied up everything nicely and had an actual resolve for all the main characters. If you haven't read the first four books you'll be totally lost. Unlike most authors, who'll give brief background/character info, throughout the book, on previous book in series, she doesn't. so read the first four first!

I love to get that escape from real life issues, if only for a few hours, when reading. This series did that for me. Might not be for everyone, but all her books did that for me...

    Darkest Mercy

Having read Darkest Mercy (Wicked Lovely, #5) by Melissa Marr the fifth and final chapter in the wicked Lovely series I have to say nothing turned out quite like I expected. First several characters were killed which I didn’t see coming. Then several characters changed roles and did unexpected things. All in all a really interesting and explosive way to end the book series and well done.

In this final book we find that the fairies from all the courts must find a way to work together to overcome one fairy who by shear defiance has called herself queen and is out to destroy all that is and will be. But working together could prove harder then expected when discord and unseen obstacle keep getting in the way of saving what each values.

Melissa Marr has a way of capturing your attention from first word to last and keeps you on the edge of your seat wondering what will happen when you turn the page. For nothing is as it seems and with each new discovery comes the knowledge that people aren’t what they seem and they hold more secrets then you can think to imagine.

Love the series... hate this book

This book is OVERWHELMINGLY DEPRESSING!!! Everyone that she has made you love through all the other books dies!! Seriously there is 3 MAJOR CHARACTERS DEAD before you get half way through the book!!! Personally I don't generally like to be confronted with quite as many deaths as this book presents. I prefer a bit more happy & much less tragedy. I was unprepared for it to be so dark when the other books were not.

    Great story, so-so ending

I love every book in the series and this one was no different. I read it in two days it was so addicting. The reason I rated it a three however, was it paled in comparison to the others in the series. It started out beautifully, very well written. But the ending was not to my liking. Not to say someone else wont like it, but to me it didnt even come close to the amazing endings from melissa marr i have come to expect.

    OK

I was excited to get this book, since I am a huge fan of the series. The choice that Keenan made... all I have to say is WHY DID HE WAIT? The crap with Irial was confusing too. AND I felt there was too much but not enough going on at the same time. Let me explain: There is so much going on in all the courts and it has to be addressed for the story, but at the same time, it wasn't pertinent at all. I felt the "battle" was short and abrupt and the book ended TOO SOON. I'm disappointed that this is the last one since there is so much that i feel was left out and/or could be addressed.

    The End Was Beautiful

The ending of a great series is always hard to read for me. There is the apprehension ow staring it since you know that it is the last, combined with the longing you have held o see what happens to your characters in the first place as you have waited.

Darkest Mercy is the final book in the Wicked Lovely series. In it's pages we come to massive story conclusions and lost characters, intertwined with found love and court changes. New characters are introduced, and old beloved characters are changed forever.

There were jubilant times, and teary pages.

Darkest Mercy was an amazing conclusion from Melissa Mar. At the last page the story ending felt completed and some characters are moving onto new paths, but it felt good to finish.

The loose end weight was lifted from m shoulders and I could set the book down feeling good.

If you enjoyed the Wicked Lovely series so far, you will love the finished story. Marr weaves an amazing story with enough love and tragedy to cut it with a knife, and yet the finished product still leaves you with a satisfied sigh.

The characters interactions were all well played out and described. A great conclusion to an epic series.
