River City is a fictionalized version of Spokane, Washington where mobsters and missing mummies make life a little more exciting than in the city's real world counterpart. "Dead Even" is a wonderful introduction to Zafiro's River City crime fiction series because some of the stories focus on a popular recurring character named Katie MacLeod, some of the stories allow minor characters from the novels to become protagonists for a change and all of the stories add something wonderful to the River City setting.
