Overview

Beautiful Charlie Newcomb is being hunted by vampires, for she is the link to a medical miracle that could be invaluable to the night stalkers. Her only protection is her guardian, Ethan. But will he be enough to save her when darkness falls?

Editorial Reviews

Publishers Weekly

Brook crafts an entertaining, slow-building romance for her latest Guardian series entry. Charlie Newcomb is a recovering alcoholic working at a bar and just trying to keep her head above water when she comes across a group of vampires nesting on the establishment's roof. Luckily, her enigmatic next-door neighbor Ethan McCabe is a Guardian, or angel, who is keeping an eye on her. The two get caught in a demonic plot that threatens Charlie's sister, Jane, while Charlie must wrestle with not only the undead but with her growing attraction to Ethan. Charlie's traumatic past has left her believably afraid of her own needs, and Ethan is a brave, sweet guy with old-fashioned ideas about chivalry. Brook gives them distinctive dialogue and paints a fascinating, erotic world full of angels, demons, vampires and ambiguity. (Feb.)

Meet the Author

Meljean was raised in the middle of the woods, and hid under her blankets at night with fairy tales, comic books, and romances. She left the forest and went on a misguided tour through the world of accounting, banking, and a (very) brief teaching career before focusing on her first loves, reading and writing—and she realized that monsters, superheroes, and happily-ever-afters are easily found between the covers, as well as under them, so she set out to make her own. Meljean lives in Portland, Oregon with her husband and daughter.

    An Avid Reader

Sexy and exciting! Definitely recommend it. I was fortunate enough to read an ARC of Demon Night and I thoroughly enjoyed the Guardians world. Meljean Brook creates very interesting and unique characters. Ethan, `Drifter¿, is a multi-faceted hero who feels deeply of his duty to protect Charlotte, `Charlie¿, a female who is scarred and unsure of herself, but has great inner strength revealed as the story progressed. There is great chemistry between them although neither would admit to being in love, except, maybe, to themselves. Add Charlie¿s sister, Jane, whom she deeply cares about and Sammael, a demon, who surprisingly also seems to care for Jane and things start to get very interesting and possibly dangerous for one or maybe more when a seemingly unstoppable evil creature appears. I think Meljean Brook has a vivid and wonderful imagination and `Demon Night¿ is a great example of it. Will definitely be looking forward to future stories of the Guardians. Congratulations!

    A reviewer

Ethan McCabe takes his role as guardian of Cole¿s Hard Time Bar and Grill bartender Charlotte ¿Charlie¿ Newcomb quite seriously. So when three malevolent vampires attack her, he is outraged even as he saves her. Apparently she is not so much the target but the expendable pawn to get at her still human sister Jane, a research scientist at Legions Laboratories. Ethan believes Jane¿s demonic boyfriend is the culprit behind the assault. To keep her safe from the demons who want her for some unsavory reason, Ethan thinks Charlie should become a vampire.------------- Still although Charlie hesitates, Ethan plans to risk his long life to keep her safe for that is his job. However, deep in his soul, Ethan knows this is much more than just a job for inside his heart he knows that keeping her safe is an eternal passion of his as he loves Charlie.----------- Fans of Meljean Brooks¿ Guardians series will appreciate the latest entry, DEMON NIGHT. Ethan is terrific in his role as protector of Charlie, whom he loves, but fears telling her as she has emotional issues caused by bad relationships and her safety comes before his heart. Although it pays to read the previous entries in the Brooks realm (see DEMON MOON and DEMON ANGEL) to better understand the complexities, this is an engaging multifaceted romantic fantasy.------------ Harriet Klausner
