Overview

The first part of the book tells about the club for crossing dogs and several of them tell stories after their lives about their lives. Then, leaving the dogs behind, Dr. Dolittle becomes obsessed with learning the language of insects, so he invents a machine for this and, eventually, manages to learn several stories about insects. Dr. Doolittle hears rumors of giant moths, so he asks his animal friends and insects to learn more about them. Then, quite unexpectedly, a giant moth appears in his garden and he learn to communicate with them.

About the Author

Hugh John Lofting was a British author, trained as a civil engineer, who created the character of Doctor Dolittle, one of the classics of children's literature.
The Story of Doctor Dolittle (1920) began the Doctor Dolittle series and won the Lewis Carroll Shelf Award in 1958. The sequel The Voyages of Doctor Dolittle (1922) won Lofting the prestigious Newbery Medal. Eight more books followed, and after Lofting's death two more volumes appeared, composed of short unpublished pieces. The series has been adapted for film and television many times.
