Overview

What happens when you fall in love with the perfect guy...twice...in one day?

Brenna Blixen spent her freshman year homeschooling in Denmark; now that she's back in the States, she's determined to make her sophomore year unforgettable. And by unforgettable, she imagined awesome classes, fun friendships, and maybe a little romance.

What she got was a whole lot of romance, and all at once.

The same day that dark, brooding Saxon Maclean charmed her with his killer good looks and whip-smart wit, Jake Kelly stole her breath away with his heart-wrenching smile and intelligent, thoughtful focus.

But Saxon is a proud player who makes it clear that he doesn't know why he can't get Brenna off of his mind and out of his system, and Jake's sweet and humble attitude hides a secret past life that might be more darker and more complex than Brenna's willing to handle.

Complicating the matter is the fact that Saxon and Jake were once best friends and are now arch-enemies...and the more Brenna finds out about their connection to each other, the more intrigued and worried she becomes.

Between keeping the peace with her lovingly over-protective parents, designing t-shirts for her high school's rising punk band, keeping up her grades in both academic and technical high school, and running the track like a maniac, Brenna has enough to worry about with out juggling two guys who make her heart thud and drive her crazy all at once.

She has to make a choice. But how can she when giving her heart to one of them might mean breaking the other's?

Meet the Author

Liz Reinhardt was born and raised in the idyllic beauty of northwest NJ. A move to the subtropics of coastal Georgia with her daughter and husband left her with a newly realized taste for the beach and a bloated sunscreen budget. Right alongside these new found loves lives an intense longing for the bagels and fast-talking foul mouths of her youth. She loves Raisinettes, even if they aren’t really candy, the Oxford comma, movies that are hilarious or feature zombies, any and all books, but especially romance (the smarter and hotter, the better), the sound of her daughter’s incessantly wise and entertaining chatter, and watching her husband work on cars in the driveway. Amazing Book! Liz Reinhardt's Double Clutch is a Must-Read!

    Charming until the end!!!

I have a confession to make. I am guilty of the old habit of judging a book by its cover. I don't even remember signing up for this blog tour. But I went through it anyway, and boy was I glad I did!!!

This book is so amazing, it's ridiculous. I was gushing the entire time! I stayed up until two in the morning reading it, not only because I want to finish it to review it, but because I just want to know what happens already with the characters!

Brenna Blixen is the main character and she lived in Denmark for a while before coming back to New Jersey. Right off the bat, I thought the book was so cool. Denmark?! Uber cool in my opinion. They lived in the countryside where people barely spoke or understood English, so Brenna focused on reading books and going through home schooling.

When she came back to the U.S., she met with old friends and met new people -- hot people like Saxon...

Saxon is one of those bad boys that are unimaginatively charming. He can attract any female specie in Frankford High School... and then dumps them after he finds a new girl that is more interesting. Unfortunately for Saxon, Brenna never gave in to his charm, although, it was clear that she found him attractive.

Brenna did Share Time in the story, which means she goes to the "academic high school" for half the day, and the "tech school" for the other half of the day. That's where she met Jake. Sweet, humble Jake.

Jake is the kind of guy that is so humble, he got used to putting himself down. I have three words for him: HESITANT, HUMBLE, HOT! He was the exact opposite of Saxon. While Saxon was arrogant, Jake was humble and unsure of himself. But that's not to say he didn't have a dark past.

I was so into Jake and then the author brings down the bomb: Jake slept with many girls a year and a half ago when he used to have vices like drinking and smoking and sleeping with anybody who would welcome him. It was disconcerting knowing that this perfect guy wasn't so perfect in the past, but he and Brenna got through the ups and downs of dealing with manipulative Saxon to strengthen their relationship.

In the end, Brenna and Jake are happy together while Saxon, not so much. I just felt like there need to be a sequel where Saxon finds someone to truly love because he's a great person, and all that arrogance is just a front to hide a VERY SENSITIVE secret. What's the secret? You're going to have to read the book! :)

I promise you, Liz Reinhardt did an amazing job with this book. She's officially in my favorite authors list. I love how the characters were all artistic and full of awesome sauce!

Double Clutch follows Brenna, who has been home schooled in Denm

Double Clutch follows Brenna, who has been home schooled in Denmark for a year, but has moved back to New Jersey with her Mum and Father. In New Jersey she has to settle back into school, make friends again, and to top it all off, people think she is weird for doing share time, going to another school for half her education. Here is where she meets Jake. Brenna is torn between her feeling for good guy Jake who has a reputation, or Saxon, who is also occasionally involved with her friend Kelsie, all round bad guy who attends her usual school. After agonising over who she likes she eventually makes her choice, and we get to watch Brenna as she experiences love for the first time, and new experiences with Jake.

From the moment I started reading Double Clutch I was hooked, it's not something I tend to read but I couldn't put it down when I started. I enjoyed reading about how Brenna grows as a person and how she copes with things that are thrown at her. Her emotions and feelings are things that you feel every day and you can sympathise with her with what she is going through. I really liked how Jake becomes a better person for Brenna, and how they both make compromises with each other. I loved how Saxon was finally able to admit how he feels for Brenna, but also how he was there to support Jake in his motocross race, I hope they get to resolve their differences and get back to the friendship they had.

I really enjoyed reading Double Clutch and can't wait to follow Brenna and find out what happens next when book 2 is released.

    Umm... what?

I read all of the positive comments and was intrigued with the sample. As i read more and more, i started to fall head over heels for both male leads. Until i get to a certain part in the novel that is way to inapropriate for younger viewers or young teens. I would not recomend purchasing "Double Clutch" if you are not interested in intense sextual situations. But hey, if you like that sort book, go for it.

    Not recommended for teens.

I bought this book for my teen granddaughter and luckily, I pre-read it! It is too explicit for teens; I even felt uncomfortable reading some graphic descriptions of sexual behavior.

I'm sixteen years old, and i loooove this book (and the entire series.) The author really made this book enjoyable to read. I can relate to the main girl character, and i liked the choices that she makes; they didn't make me want to scream through the book at her (though she does something in the second book that i didn't agree with.) There are some sexual situations, just to warn people.

    The story revolves around Brenna. You get a good sense of what this character is like, and i like her personality. She feels attracted to two boys, Saxon and Jake. Saxon is the stereotypical bad boy. But he also has this side of him that's sweet and makes you root that she chooses him. Jake is super sweet. He is always trying to take care of Brenna. He is the opposite of Saxon. In books where two boys are fighting for a girls attraction, i usually pick a side and like one boy over another. But in this story, i couldn't choose who i liked more. Both of their personalities made me love them. You also find out later, that both boys have a past connection with each other. Back to Brenna, she is artistic, sporty, smart, and actually has some common sense. Brenna also has her own hobbies, and she isn't completly dependant upon the boys.The steamy parts (within all three books) add a nice touch to this book. (;

All in all, BUY this book. It's worth it. I'd recomend ages 14 and up.

I started out really liking this novel. It’s very well written and it definitely holds reader attention, however, as the plot thickened, I found myself becoming more and more disgusted with the main character, Brenna, due to her actions. Her tantrums over her boyfriend Jake, and her inability to stay away from Saxon, made me lose a lot of respect for her… I just felt like she wasn’t making wise choices and was ultimately becoming a playgirl. Add to that her ridiculous tantrum about sex when Jake asked her to respect his wishes and slow down, and well, her immature attitude just sent my head spinning.

Brenna’s constant sense of secrecy and the fact that she falls in “love” so quickly, within 3-4 weeks, also rubbed me the wrong way. The first time she tells Jake she loves him is after a sexual escapade, and in truth, I just felt like she was a bratty young woman concerned only about herself, confusing love with the lust. I do understand the teenage mind and how easy it is to get wrapped up in these types of feelings, misconstruing signals, but the way Brenna handled herself and dealt with her feelings left me shaking my head on many an occasion. The fact that she’s a very real portrayal of the teenage mind adds validity to it all, but also scares me just a bit…

And yet, I was drawn to the story as I watched her continually do petty and immature things, and I did like it, overall–I just didn’t like the main character, and for me, that’s a huge part of my books. I almost felt like Brenna was a train wreck and I just couldn’t look away which, in the end, made for a fairly interesting read. It’s definitely worth the read; even though I wasn’t a fan of Brenna doesn’t mean you won’t be… and although I really didn’t like Brenna, I did enjoy Jake and Saxon—they are two beautiful young men and I just adored them and their tolerance of Brenna’s craziness; they definitely help make the story.
