Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Shirley Nelson
Seamstress Creel is busily preparing for her wedding to Prince Luka, designing and creating the perfect wedding gown. She carries the unfinished gown along when she, Luka, and her brother, Hagen, travel to the Far Isles to carry black sand for glassblowing to the exiled dragons who live there. Creel is looking forward to a quiet visit with her dragon friends, particularly King Shardos and Queen Velika who are awaiting the hatching of their clutch of eggs. In this quiet setting, she plans to put the finishing touches on her exquisite wedding gown. However, it is soon obvious that a traitor lives among the dragons. The queen and her eggs are kidnapped by a group of smaller, sickly dragons who enslave humans. They are descended from the sister of Velika's ancestor and feel justified in resorting to treachery to gain a new queen. As friends of the dragons, Creel, Luka, and Hagen are drawn into an ugly battle for the safety of the hatchlings. Wedding plans are temporarily put aside while the unfinished wedding gown is put to innovative use. Volcanic eruptions, aerial dragon battles, and beautiful dragon-blown glass combine to create an exciting adventure. Reviewer: Shirley Nelson
Kirkus Reviews
This third installment in the series about Creel that began with Dragon Slippers (2007) and followed with Dragon Flight (2008) continues as the alliance between humans and dragons develops. Luka's father, the king, has exiled the dragons from his land, but they are happily ensconced in the Far Isles-until a foreign group of dragons kidnaps their queen, Velika, whose eggs are almost ready to be laid. Characters such as Creel's brother Hagen step to the fore while many that will be familiar from past books stay more offstage, with the clear assumption that most readers will be familiar with this world. The clash is between good and misguided for the most part, but evil lurks and there is a strong element of danger and threat to both humans and dragons. Creel is her usual strong-minded self, driven by her love of her dragon friends, and as she and Luka inch forward toward their wedding, her elaborate gown and the womanly art of sewing provide counterpoint to the more serious kidnapping. A tasty snack for dragon lovers. (Fiction. 8-12)

This book is full with fights, love and suprises. When the queen of all dragons is kidnapped , Creel comes back once again to help. She of course finds her self in trouble trying to figure out what is happening. Between her getting her wedding gown prepared to marry Prince Luka to helping out the dragon king hisself. Creek will face troublesome again, but all she has been through, I think she can handle anything.

The third book in the breathtaking series by Jessica Day George, Dragon Spear, is as good as the first two books. While the queen of dragons, Velika, is pregnant she is dragonknapped. The book has twists around every corner, action on every page, and adventure along the way. I recommend this book for 10 year olds and older people.

Dear jessica day george, i love you books and would love it if you could write a 4rth book of this book. I have read at least a thousand books but by far yours are my favorite(i wasn't joking when i said a thousand :). I love your books so much i spend three quarters of my free time reading them. Yours truly, Shizzlepop909

The books are fairly religiously oriented but this chick lives in utah, what else am i to expect? I read the first book back in 2007 and i loved it! The rest of the books get increasingly better as you go on! Being older and re reading the books i notice the actual problems with the society in the books and all of the implications of gods, being an atheist it sometimes is irritating but jessica day gorge's writing style makes up for it.

Out of the three books, I love this book the most! I especially loved when the hatching took place! But when i read the overview, it said that the King wanted to TAKE BACK the Far Isles. THAT IS SO NOT TRUE. I suggest that whoever wrote the overview should actually read the book instead of just writing the overview based on someone elses description. I mean, if you paid attenion to the 2nd book, King Caxel said that he WOULD NOT try to CONQUER the Far Isles. King Caxel doesn't even own the Far Isles, so why would he try to take them back?
