Editorial Reviews

Canadian Children's Book News
"Filling the pages with action and suspense, Jaimet keeps readers glued until the final daring rescue is made."
CM Magazine
"A well-written, fast paced adventure...Jaimet creates a sense of tension that she continues to ratchet up throughout the novel. Highly Recommended."
Resource Links
"The story moves quickly and the action is tense and exciting, particularly for readers who know something about rock climbing outdoors...The setting and the narrator's personal insights add depth and relevance...It's refreshing to see a young woman at the centre of a book about climbing. Vanisha is an independent thinker and a great problem solver, but she also values friendship, trust, and team work—a strong role model for girls and a character that boys can respect and perhaps even identify with...A fast-paced adventure story."
VOYA - Sherrie Williams
There are four new entries in the Orca Sports fiction series; the two reviewed here feature the sports of rock climbing and track and field. In Edge Of Flight, recent high school graduate, Vanisha, has one more weekend to enjoy her new hobby of rock climbing with her two friends before she moves east to begin college. When the trio unwittingly discovers a marijuana plantation, Vanisha must face her toughest rock-climbing challenge yet in an effort to save the life of a friend critically wounded by the bikers who were guarding the illegal drug farm. Along the way, she finds the inner strength to make some big changes in her future plans. Sidetracked is the story of a pair of friends who have become fierce competitors on their high school track team. Maddy finds that ninth grade is very different from middle school. Her quest to make the relay team is further complicated when she sees a teammate being bullied and thefts occur within the team, creating mistrust among former allies. These new additions to the popular Orca Sports series continue in the successful format of the series, which is now approaching thirty-five books. Each of these two titles features sports-based stories with compelling teen conflict, social issues, and elements of mystery. The characters and plot sometimes lean toward a formulamatic bend, but they will appeal to reluctant readers of either gender. These titles are an excellent addition to any collection seeking high-interest, lower reading level selections. (Orca Sports) Reviewer: Sherrie Williams
