Overview

Channie is a lovable teenage mage that lives a simple but magical life with her clannish community deep in the Ozark Mountains. She's blessed with the ability to enchant those around her, charming not only her family and friends, but any boy with a pulse that doesn't know how to shield himself against her magic.

When her father's gambling addiction earns the wrath of a powerful mage, the family is forced to flee for their lives. They escape to the suburbs of Colorado hoping to hide amongst Magically Disabled people (like you and me).

Channie's parents are overwhelmed by the modern world and panic when they catch her flirting with a group of "dirty-minded, non-magical city-boys." They strip away her power of enchantment and replace it with a chastity curse that automatically zaps any boy foolish, or courageous, enough to pursue her.

Josh Abrim -- a BMX racer with a killer smile, Olympic dreams and dangerous secrets of his own -- is exactly that kind of boy. When he and Channie realize their interest in each other is more than just friendship, she turns to dark and forbidden magic, determined to break the curse keeping them apart. Her inexperience makes matters infinitely worse and unleashes a malevolent force with the power to destroy everything they love ... including each other.

I've been reading all afternoon and just finished reading Enchantment. It was really good and I totally liked it. It sucks that it was left it open ended but that's just because now I have to wait eagerly for a second installment to see the Mage Wars and see what happened to Abby as well as Channie's parents and Elijah! One thing I really liked was that I grew so fond of the secondary characters. I can totally see myself writing fanfic for some of those characters and what's going on for them. I suppose one thing that I didn't like especially was how GOOD Josh was. He was sort of perfect, no major flaws, or even minor ones really. he was pretty open with his emotions, his ego was always in check, even with all the girls chasing him and being a totally BMX champion, he never got freaked out over the magic thing, he had a good relationship with his mother and brother, he never tried to pressure Channie... all around, he's a top guy, but I guess he was just a little...bland? Like, all the times Channie misjudged a situation, like when she thought he'd cheated, I never really got worked up or worried, because...I guess it was sort of obvious that wasn't going to be the case. He didn't have a dark side. I suppose just what I'm trying to say is that I wasn't overly thrilled about the main love story. I liked it well enough but it didn't like take me over and engross me and make me ship it. Maybe it was just that I thought it was a bit too fluffy, all they seemed to do was lust each other and cuddle but I never really understood WHY they fell in love, like what did they see in each other, what do they have in common, what was so special about it. Don't take this the wrong way, I want to give constructive criticism, but really, almost everything in this book was amazing, I read all of it this afternoon, totally into it and enjoyed it. There have really cool characters and some of them have been written great, like you give the one extra detail that makes me see them as a person, like Josh's mom having migraines. The idea of a Name and then the almost personified powers of Enchantment and Chastity were awesome. Like, when Channie went to get renamed I was like 'Noooooo! What about Enchantment?' and then when a bit of Enchantment survived, I was totally relived, you know, until later when it/she died. I'm always just impressed when an author can create a world or a culture thats totally new and creative and awesome. I thought just the cultural differences between them was a really cool thing to show. As far as the plot goes, it was pretty solid, Enchantment created the atmosphere of tension and doom really easily, even though most of the danger is never seen. The poems/curses/book things, they were cool. They were good that they were easy enough for the reader to be able to work out but maybe they were not cryptic enough, because sometimes I'd get what it meant and the characters didn't. Overall, it was a very worthwhile read, it was fun and interesting and made me think and feel and enjoy. I recommend it totally.

I read this book in three sittings and loved it! The heroine is the victim of a magic power play by her parents, that backfires on them and leaves her desperate to get close to the boy she loves. Can the young hero and heroine risk using the dark magic that got them into the mess to get themselves out of it? A great plot that made me laugh out loud at times, with lots of believable characters that I really cared about. Now I am waiting impatiently for the sequel!

What an unusual book for me to read. I honestly stay away from a lot of books that advertise that witches are the main characters. I don't know why, but this book seemed interesting to me right away. I guess it is because I once played a role playing game called Mage and I wanted to see if this was anything like that setting. It isn't but the link I had made in my mind was enough to leave me receptive to this story. And guess what? I couldn't put it down. I started it and finished it in less than 24 hours. I was feeling really sleepy and had no energy to play with my son, so I pretty much took him outside to play all day while I read. It was a wonderful read! My only complaint was that in the beginning of the book the Belks family dialog was in their native Arkansas tongue. That means that they sounded very uneducated and their grammar was terrible. I don't mean that to sound like that is how the people of Arkansas sound, so please don't take it that way. I just mean that the place where Channie's family came from in the story all spoke that way. They used "ain't" a lot which was a word my parents screamed at me for using. Interestingly enough, Channie actually was correcting her family's native speech in the beginning of the book because it bothered her as well. If you are an English teacher, you will probably struggle in the beginning of this book. I absolutely loved how Channie comes into her cursed powers. I laughed a bunch every time her chastity curse came out to torment the lustful people around her. I also laughed at her ways with dealing with other girls' behavior towards her boyfriend. There are some very funny moments in the story. I fought it quite endearing how her boyfriend Josh takes everything in stride. He is willing to put up with so much pain just to be near Channie. He loves her instantly even though he has to deal with a LOT of PMS from her. When you read the story you will understand why she is PMSing all the time and it isn't just because her parents put a chastity curse on her, though that is enough for a teenage girl to be moody when she's in love. It seems that along with the curse her parents gave her, she is constantly being put under new curses from the mistakes her parents made. As a result, Josh is also cursed over and over again. You will laugh and want to cry as you see what the two of them must endure just to get their true love's kiss. It was a wonderful read. I was left wanting to know what will happen next at the end of the story, but also felt a good sense of closure. However, there is an excerpt at the end for the next book in the series that will definitely leave you wanting more. I kind of wish I hadn't read the excerpt because now I really need to get the next book. Unfortunately I have a few others on my review list before I can get to that one.

Let me first say that I got this book from read 2 review on goodreads and did not expect to love it so much. I thought this would be a sweet YA book for the younger audience. I was wrong... Simply brilliant... This story was sweet and endearing, fit for all audiences. Mothers can read with their daughters and boys can enjoy as well. Completely heartwarming and the promise that true love con conquer all. This is a must read for all ages, I could not put it down. READ IT!

Love this story. Its such a unique take on teenage romance. I love the characters and the drama. I want to know what happens to Channie...and Josh...and everyone else. I can't wait for the sequel to come out. And this author has put up a "Diary" site for Channie which is so cool. I feel like I'm getting sneak peeks into Channie's life and its so fun. Can't wait for more from Charlotte Abel!!!!!

This book was great. I read it all in one day and I can't wait to see what happens next. It is a young adult book that even adults can enjoy. Charlotte Abel has good story telling skills that made reading "Enchantment" fun and breezy. In a world full of mages and non-mages love is always a page turner!

Read this in the box set. It's best to read this series back to back because there is no recap of the previous book in the next book. I finished this within 2 days. Would have been less, but life gets in the way. This is the best book of a series start I have read in a while, aside from Carlotte's Sanctuary series. She has such unique ideas on stories! This is about a family of back woods mages that are on the run from a rival mage clan. It's really unique to read that each mage get's their power from the power name they are given. I'm in love with this series, and do not want it to end.

I enjoyed this book, even though it really isn't my typical cup of tea. A book for young adults who like paranormal romances.

After finishing Enchantment, I must admit I was pleasantly surprised by the twist in the ending. When I started this book, the first couple of chapters didn't pull me right in, but I made sure to keep reading because a friend with similar tastes recommended it. I'm certainly glad I did! The action really pics up and I was swept away into Channie's story! Charlotte Able did a great job in creating interesting characters and a wonderful story! I am definitely excited to see where this journey takes us next!
