And after she's tricked into a blind date with him, Tamara gives in to her passion. Things screech to a halt, though, when he asks to meet her children. Whatever happened to wham-bam-thank-youma-am- Suddenly Tamara has to decide how much risk she's willing to take to experience the power of true love.

Editorial Reviews

Publishers Weekly

McCarthy strays from her more recent Vegas Vampires series and heads to the world of racing for a steamy romance. Two years after Tamara Briggs's husband was killed in a wreck at Talladega, she's back to dating, but her latest beau is a dud. She dumps him and remains intent on not ending up with another race-car driver, but that's exactly what she gets when she meets Elec Monroe. Things progress quickly, and soon she's having dynamite sex with this younger man who's nice to her kids-who could ask for more? There's a catch of course: Elec is the son of Tamara's dead husband's father's sworn enemy. The narrative is fast-paced and red hot; fans of more graphic romances will enjoy this and welcome the next-a sequel is in the works. (Nov.)

    engaging often humorous contemporary romance

Widow Professor Tamara Briggs raises her two children in quiet safe environs. After her husband died in a fiery NASCAR accident, she vowed to keep her kids safe and her heart too.--------------- Driver Elec Monroe has had his fill of groupies. Instead he wants Tamara even if she is a few years older than him and he even likes her two kids. He scores with her in the tryst of a lifetime, but she obstinately refuses his efforts to shift their relationship beyond a one night stand into first gear as he is a dreaded driver like her children¿s late dad. He begins a campaign that NASCAR would love as a victory to him is winning Tamara¿s heart permanently.----------------- The opening line by Tamara¿s friend Suzanne sets the stage of an engaging often humorous contemporary romance when she says Tamara¿s boyfriend anthropology Professor Geoffrey Ayers has less testosterone than a teenage girl. The story line accelerates from that terrific observation and never slows down as Elec tries to keep up with his racing heart to win the greatest prize of all, the love of a lifetime while his checkered flag in this race is an obstinate single mom.------------ Harriet Klausner

    Flat-Out Sexy by Erin McCarthy

Really 4.5 stars! A very sexy and very touching story..."Flat-Out Sexy" by Erin McCarthy is a truly entertaining read with humor, emotion, and desire wrapped up in a very touching love story.

Tamara is a teacher, a mother, and a widow. She's also feeling very unsexy and it's no surprise since she can calculate to the day, the last time she had sex. And she really can't count the boring professor since she had to force herself to do it once and would rather eat nails than do it again! Then she spills her entire glass of wine on a very sexy stranger at a party and things go kinda crazy from there! After a night of very fulfilling, very crazy sex...Tamara discover that not only is her stranger younger than she is, he's also a race car driver, just like her first husband who 'left' her by smashing his car in the corner on the racetrack. She just can't face that again...right?

Elec may be a bit younger in years, but he's also a man who knows what he wants and once he sets his sights on Tamara, she really doesn't stand a chance. If he can just get past her fears, her in-laws, and her prejudices, he'll be home free. No problem...really...probably...maybe?

Two people who couldn't be more perfect for each other, but have to learn that love is no more perfect than people, and sometimes taking the chance outweighs safety. I loved the story, I loved the hero and heroine, I loved the pace of their relationship and how they handled the roadblocks and challenges unique to their situation. The cover is smoking and the heat inside is a good match too.

    A Top Racing Story

Erin McCarthy¿s Flat Out Sexy is a complete and absolute charming story.

Tamara Briggs had lost a husband to the perils of race car driving. She is dating casually a very low key guy, who doesn¿t rev her engines at all. After breaking up with this man at a racing party she meets a man at first glance sets her heart pounding. Tamara decides a quick fling with up and coming racer Elec Monroe is just what she deserves.

Elec Monroe is slowing climbing the rankings in the racing world. His attraction to Erin is explosive and he would be a fool to ignore it. Elec is not a commitment kind of guy and that is ok with Tamara since she has young kids to consider.

This just a fling quickly goes beyond the electricity Elec and Tamara share. Neither was prepared how much they would come to mean to each other.

Flat Out Sexy exceeds its little by miles. Its one of the most sensual and captivating romances by Erin McCarthy to date. Elec and Tamara are well developed characters that drew you into their world with ease. I am so looking forward to the next book in this fantastic series.

    Really liked this book!

I don't know much about racing, but that didn't stop me from enjoying this book. Every woman deserves a man like Elec Monroe in her life. What a sexy, funny and romantic story.

This is the first Contemporary Romance book that I loved!

This book was HOT!!!!! I mean the story was great and I loved all the character's. I can't wait to read the rest of the series or some of her other series.

Things I liked about this book:
-I really liked that the main character was a mom. She had two kids and it worked for the story. She was widowed 2 years back when her hubby got in a NASCAR accident. She ends up falling for another NASCAR racer Elec Monroe who is 6 years younger at age 26. I thought it was great reading about how moms can still be sexy.
-This is the first contemporary romance book that I really loved. The quotes are excellent from this book

    The Romance Reviews Top Pick

    Flat out sexy fun!

I was a little late to the Fast Track party, but I sure am glad I made it. Book one of the series, Flat Out Sexy, had everything in it I crave. Well developed characters with undeniable heat and attraction for each other, great friends and family to help us know them better, and a whole lot of humor to keep a smile on my face for the ride.

Seriously, friends, I laughed out loud enough to turn heads. I cried with the kids as they remembered their dad's death. And I blushed and tilted the kindle for ensured privacy when the smexy action got going.

Tamara Briggs lost her husband and the father of her two children when he crashed at Talladega two years ago. Her first foray into dating hasn't gone too well. He may be the logical, safe choice, but her libido just isn't playing along.

And then she runs into Elec Monroe. A relationship with a driver is the last thing she needs. She has a list a mile long on why she should stay far away from Elec Monroe, but her hormones beg to differ. The two of them ignite the page with a mere touch. If you like the sexy deets, this one provides. There is nothing exceptionally kinky in this story, but they sure show plain old vanilla sex can be hot. Very hot.

The best part of this story comes from the supporting characters. The kids add to the romance and charm. The exes and wishful exes add humor and audaciousness. The family adds the history. And the friends all add the slapstick humor that got me in trouble for laughing out loud more than once. Seriously, you just have to love a woman who puts an apple pie in her ex-husband's face for being clueless. Suzanne and Ryan Jefferson star in book three and I just can't wait to get to it.

This really is one of those mass appeal books; fast cars, funny friends, tearful moments, family ties and enough heat to burn Chicago down again. Enjoy!

On the FAST TRACK to being a HOT and steamy series!

I've enjoyed McCarthy's vampire series and though I haven't read many racing romance novels I was very intrigued when I read about this book. I am glad I got a copy of this book to start reading on my brand new NOOKcolor. Tamara and Elec were very interesting characters because I've only read one or two romance novels that had an older woman as the heroine and a younger man as the hero. Tamara's insecurities about her appearances since she's older and has had two children made her relationship with Elec who is 6 years younger than her whose career as a race car driver puts two strikes against him in her mind that they shouldn't even consider having a more permenant relationship. I loved reading this hot and steamy romance and can't wait to get started on the second book in the FAST TRACK series.

    Flat-Out Sexy-fun

This is a very nicely written sexy little story. I enjoyed the characters, the story line, and romance. The sexy parts were hot and fun without being disgusting. I liked the more mature leading lady and the younger man who can appreciate her.

kind of like fresh, hot, crispy fries from McDonalds...

...not a whole lot of substance but darned delicious all the same! Let's review:
    1. Sensitive and smokin' hot male lead who falls head over heels for our heroine? Check!
    2. Everybody's-best-friend-heart-of-gold-very-attractive-but-thinks-she's-flawed heroine? Check!
    3. Hot sex? Check! Check! Check! Check! Um, I lost count.
Predictable but heart-warming all the same and the author has a gift for snappy dialogue and pulse-pounding love scenes!

Flat Out Sexy....The Title Says It All!

Ok, so this was a awesome Read! Oh my, I am hooked! Who knew Race Car Drivers Could be so sexy?
Elec is a race car driver who is tired of dating the same ole girls. Tamara is a widow of two years loosing her husband in a racing accident with two children to raise. Elec and Tamara meet at a party and share a hot steamy one night stand. Elec falls for Tamara instantly. Tamara is very attracted to Elec but has her kids, her in-laws and the fact that she does not want to be married to another racer to consider. I loved the story because Elec is very understanding and very gentle working his way into Tamara's life and her kids life making the adjustment easy. The story goes just how you want it although I felt there was a lot more story to tell. I felt the story ended way to soon. I have also read the next book and was happy that their characters were mentioned although I just wanted to read more about these two! Erin is an amazing writer, I just wish she gave her characters a longer story.

FLAT OUT SEXY, IS RIGHT, AND ALMOST AN UNDERSTATEMENT!!!

The characters are so believable, and so relateable, and just so much fun to read. Elec is a dream come true for Tamara, and her
kids needed him just as much as she had. I loved the tenderness in which the emotoinal scenes were handled, and the quick wit of Suzzanne, had me rolling and wiping away tears just so I could keep reading. I read this book and the follow-up Hard And Fast, in less than twenty four hours, and the only thing I absolutely hated was that it ended. I could spend days in the lives of these characters, and loved each and every one, well except Nikki, but I did like how Suz handled the bimbo. These two books are at the top of my favorite list now, and I am buying the rest of her books as well. Exelent read, that will not leave you unsatisfied. Praise for Erin McCarthy.
