Overview

She's absolutely sure he's not the forever kind...

Bad boys are Barbara Whitehall's business. She's made a career out of teaching other women how to get over the bad boys--like her hunky neighbor--and find good men.

He's absolutely sure she's right...

Jake Mancini's had his eye on the retail space next door to expand his martial arts studio, but before he could make a move, buttoned-up Barbara moved in. Now he has his eye on her killer legs and wants to make a move on her instead.

But he's still going to prove her wrong

Barbara's killer legs might come with a tongue that's murder on his no-strings social life, but if Jake can prove her wrong, she'll have to close up shop. All he has to do is get close enough for her to fall for him...without losing his own heart.

    A Lighthearted Battle-of-the-Sexes Story

Forever Material is a lighthearted battle-of-the-sexes story that will keep you smiling from page one, with quite a few LOLs thrown in! Barbara Whitehall teaches workshops about the two types of guys in the world: Forever Material, or the ones who are good to settle down with; and Fling Material, the ones whose sole purpose (and interest) is in the short-lived booty call. Barbara's convinced that Jake is the latter, and the laughs begin when he literally falls through the ceiling into one of her workshops. Not one to pass up a great opportunity, Barbara uses him as an example, for he meets all the bad-boy stereotypes. Jake's determined to peel away Barbara's professional man-hater image and bets her that he can make her fall for him. The more time the two spend together, the less each is interested in the bet, as they discover qualities in each other-and themselves-that go beyond the stereotypes. There are touching, emotional moments too, especially as the characters reveal why they hold on to their pig-headed beliefs, and as they move past them. Forever Material is a fun, lighthearted read that doesn't skimp on emotion, and will keep you smiling long after the e-reader's turned off!

Love is what happens to you while you┬┐re busy making other plans

Love is what happens to you while you’re busy making other plans.

Barbara Whitehall, founder of DateSmart, believes she has formulated the perfect approach to successful coupling. But after an awkward introduction to Jake Mancini a martial arts instructor, biology begins breaking down barriers to edge out Barbara's common sense approach to courtship.

Forever Material is a light hearted romantic comedy on the surface but it has rich layering that you may not expect from the genre. It cleverly explores the psychology of attraction. By the end you understand why the characters are the way they are. And the mental and physical seduction percolating between the lines is delicious.

The story is laced with flirty banter and although it’s set in the present, it has a timeless feel.

If you enjoy movies like, His Girl Friday, Serendipity, He's Just Not That Into You and The Proposal, or if you like books like Sohpie Kinsella’s Confessions of a Shopaholic, Gemma Townley ‘s Learning Curves, Wendy Markham’s Slightly Engaged, or Zoe Rice’s Pick Me Up, I suspect you’ll enjoy Athena Grayson’s Relationship Material.

Oh and did I mention a dessert description in the story actually made my mouth water?

Forever Material is one of the best romantic comedies I've read

Forever Material is one of the best romantic comedies I've read in YEARS! The writing is page-turningly crisp and witty as all get out--you'll honestly want to finish it in one sitting! The book's main female character, Barabara Whitehall, is in deep trouble--she's attracted her opposite in Jake Mancini the way yin attracts yang, and the results send sparks flying. But unlike many romances that lag under the weight of their flat or plodding stock characters and plot, Athena Grayson takes the time to carefully dilineate the sly chess match between Barbara and Jake while at the same time providing poignant insight into why they've both failed to find true before. Grayson makes her characters so nuanced and lovable that you just can't help rooting for these two, and the only question that remains is: Why hasn't Forever Material been made into a movie yet? Hello, Emma Stone? Ginnifer Goodwin? Run, don't walk to buy this novel if you're shopping around for a great script! My only complaint about Forever Material is that I wish it had been longer (because I simply wasn't ready to let go of the characters. They get under your skin--which is, of course, the very best praise a reader can give to any novel).
