Overview

When it rains it pours. Just ask Elizabeth Underwood or Nina Lewis. They thought the unfaithful men in their lives caused their storms, but as they are forced on a journey of self-examination, they realize that something greater than a "do-right" man is needed to heal the hurts that trouble their souls.

Kenneth Underwood and Isaac Walker want to rid themselves of the selfish, ungrateful women in their lives. Kenneth, a successful businessman, is planning to divorce Elizabeth, his wife of 7 years. Isaac, a man of the streets and Nina's former lover, has a more final solution to rid himself of his problem. But when the free gift of salvation is unexpectedly offered, will this wayward group allow the grace of God to heal and restore the shattered lives they have created, or are they forever destined to go through the storm?

Editorial Reviews

Vicki Austin
Without pretense, this author is not concerned about being a dainty Christian Fiction writer. Vanessa Miller jumps it off from page one and keeps the reader turning pages until the very end. This story introduces 2 couples Nina and Issac, Elizabeth and Kenneth. It is a testimony to the struggles of living the street life and the often cruel consequences that come with love, bad influences and really bad choices. The characters are vividly human, flawed and identifiable. She holds no punches when

    A must read!

This book was so relevant and relatable on so many levels. The reader doesn't have to relate to the exact experience of the characters but will be able to relate to the battles and struggles of the mind. However, so many will relate to the exact experiences. I can't wait to read the other books in the series. Definitely a worthy investment. I will recommend this book to everyone. Very timely story.

    Very inspiring...

This is a very inspirational book. It has encouraged me to take a better look at myself, my marriage and my walk with Christ. I love how Vanessa embeds the bible verses she's referring to in her stories. Because of this, I don't have to wonder what she's saying I know. This is my first book by this author and because I enjoyed it so much I've already purchased all of the Rain and Storm books!!! I can't wait to finish them.

    Former Rain

This book is a must read for anyone who is seeking God and dealing with desiring to do right, but falling short of the glory of God. This book deals facing life's storms, and struggles by knowing that all things are possibly through Christ Jesus. Thanks Donna for sharing this book with me! I RECOMMEND Vanessa Miller to all my friends, and can't wait to read the next book that follows this one.

Praise the Lord! Good Christian Reading!

I read Former Rain in one day! Ms. Miller is extremely talented. It is evident that she was inspired by the Holy Spirit. This book is real life. I am sure anyone who reads this can relate to some aspect of it! I did! I am looking forward to reading the rest of the Rain Series and anything else Ms. Miller comes out with.

    Captivated with Reading

Vanessa Miller is truly a gifted writer. I read Former Rain in two days. I could not put it down. I read 'Abundant Rain' in three days, 'Latter Rain' in two days and 'Rain Storm' in one day. The story lines and the characters are so real. For those of you who do not believe there is a heaven and a hell, you must read Vanessa's books. She is truly anointed. Her imagination is vivid and her story telling is remarkable. These books are richly told, they make you stop and take a serious look at your life. I have had the pleasure of meeting Ms. Miller and I must say she is one down to earth 'REAL' African American Woman.

    Wonderful

In her debut novel, Former Rain, Ms. Miller writes with determination and conviction. This book is very inspirational and thought provoking. The characters were so alive and the author did a good job of making you think she was writing about you. This book will keep you on the edge of your seat wanting more. Plus, it will make you take a good look at yourself. If you aren't a church-goer before you read this book, you will be after you finish. I am looking forward to reading more from Vanessa Miller. On a scale of 1-5, I give this book a 5.

Nina follows the Lord and chooses to raise her son without Isacc under her roof, but she loves him. Isacc deals drugs and is always a hustler. When he realizes what is missing in his life, he fights the evil that surrounds him, The book was Funny, Inspirational and moving. I was stunned to find the last few pages held so much only to find out i have to wait until 2004 for the end of the story. A nice read. This debut novel proves that The Rain Trilogy will be worthy reads. stay tuned for Elizabeth and Kenneth in Abundant Rain Nina and Isacc in Latter Rain.....both in 2004!
