Overview

Nikki Heat and Jameson Rook team up again to investigate their coldest killer yet, in Richard Castle's exciting follow-up to the number one New York Times bestseller Heat Rises.

NYPD Homicide Detective Nikki Heat gets more mystery than she imagined when she arrives at her latest crime scene. The body of an unidentified woman has been found stabbed to death and stuffed inside a suitcase left sitting in a freezer truck. A startling enough death—but an even bigger shock comes when this new homicide surprisingly connects to the unsolved murder of Detective Heat's own mother. Killed gruesomely, the Jane Doe on ice launches Heat on a dangerous and emotional investigation, rekindling the cold case that has haunted her since she was nineteen. Paired once again with her romantic and investigative partner, top journalist Jameson Rook, Heat works to solve the mystery of the body in the suitcase while she also digs into unexplored areas of her mother's background—areas Nikki has been afraid to confront before, but now must.

Editorial Reviews

Publishers Weekly
The entertaining fourth Nikki Heat thriller, ostensibly written by the mystery novelist character of the ABC-TV drama Castle, showcases the feisty relationship between Nikki, an NYPD homicide detective, and Jameson Rook, a journalist who featured in 2011's Heat Rises. At a crime scene on Manhattan's Upper West Side, Nikki examines a woman's frozen body found in a suitcase inside a refrigerated delivery truck. To her shock, Nikki recognizes the suitcase, which was stolen from her mother the night her mother was murdered years earlier. Since her mother's killer was never found, Nikki naturally thinks the new death may be her best chance yet of determining the truth. Fortunately, if implausibly, her superiors allow her to handle the investigation. The new case forces Nikki to learn more about her mother's life, in particular why she abandoned a promising classical music career. Diverting banter ("Isn't domestic spying illegal?" asks Nikki; "It is if you're doing it right," replies a former CIA agent) helps compensate for a less than credible main storyline. (Sept.)

Recommended - if you like Castle

I liked reading this because I could just imagine the Richard Castle character on the Castle TV series writing it. You know his stuff is schlock and everyone loves it. What I didn't like is that this was just one part of a 3-part series. Just as it gets really interesting, you have to wait for the next part, which doesn't come out for months.

Best Nikki Heat book yet!!! Couldn't put it down and love the storyline, they just keep getting better. Just wish you wouldn't have to wait so long in between books to read the new one.

Another great read by Richard Castle . . .

Frozen Heat pops with clever twists while keeping the characters realistic, flawed but lovable. Life with the jet-setter writer has its perks so the plot, while magical, is plausible. As local crimes are solved, tenacles of evidence that reach back to a decades old cold case worm their way into current puzzles of international intrigue. Hints of a compelling sequel tease the reader. Fellow mystery-crime readers are saying: We want more!

    Good read. Highly recommmended.

I liked the way thus series cimbines a touch of comedy with mystery. This one definatley followed the " Castle" tv series theme. I could imagine each of the characters in the show playing out the parts. This book also had me guessing and changing my mind on the "who done it." The end keeps you wanting more.
