Readers intrigued by the supernatural and eager to spend some quality time with ghosts may be tempted to pick up Frances Kermeen's Ghostly Encounters: True Stories of America's Haunted Inns and Hotels, but this "guide" offers little that hasn't been covered more eloquently elsewhere. From floating, disembodied torsos to menacing, Chucky-like dolls, Kermeen, the former owner of a haunted antebellum mansion, has ostensibly seen and heard it all either firsthand or secondhand through other innkeepers and their guests. However, her clunky, clich -ridden writing often mars the narration of these "sightings." When relaying one of her earliest encounters, for example, Kermeen writes: "In an instant, the room turned icy cold, and I felt terror in the air." Though this book's timely release and amusing premise will help it appeal to the Halloween crowd, readers would do better to pick up Dennis Hauck's Haunted Places: The National Directory.

    Amazing Book!!

    I loved this book. It is so awesome! Its spooky and awesome at the same time!!! Great book cant believe its true!! ITS A MUST READ BOOK!!!

    Not worth the time!

    A fluffy version of an "Amityville" attempt to cash in on being former owner of the Myrtles. More superficial than supernatural.

    Loves a Great Haunting......

    This book was pretty good. There were some hotels/inns that I wished she would have continued writing about them, or gave some more detail about what happened. But overall, I really enjoyed this book.

    not afraid to experience the truth

    I was extremely impressed by Ms. Kermeens honest and true feelings when she chose to experience these inns for herself. She was not afraid to express her true feeling when encountering the supernatural. I read the book and was impressed by her ability to take the reader into her experience as if we were there but fortunately were not! I understand she lives in santa-cruz and I can not wait to read more of her experiences, especially with the myrtle plantation she once owned. I thouroughly enjoyed her book.
