AWESOME BOOK!

OK, what's going on? I've seen all these TERRIBlE reviews for the book. It's a great book! Just because it's historical fiction and takes place about 3000 years ago doesn't make it boring! It's a wonderful book! The only bad part about it is the cover. Very bad cover. I have an older copy and the cover is SO MUCH BETTER. Oh and by the way, I'm doing this for my book report. If you're one of the few people who actually APPRECIATE Ms. Mcgraw, then read Moccasin Trail. It's great too!

IT BURNS YOUR EYES!!!!!!!!

I was reading htis book becasue i was forced to in school curriculm!!! Unless you want to burn your soul, don't even touch this book, or even look at it!!! One of my friends bought this book just to burn!!!! I would do the same to!!!! I even read the encyclopedia A to see which was better, and the encyclopedia was off the charts, mad good compared to this so called 'book'!!!

The Golden Goblet

The Golden Goblet is adventurous mystery by Eloise Jarvis McGraw. It has received a Newberry Honor, and Kirkus review said it was ¿¿an excellent choice.¿ However, I disagree the action was usually quite slow. But, it did have some interesting points to it. I think Eloise Jarvis McGraw did a fantastic job on describing scenes in the book-but not all theses scenes were very important, making the book a slight drag. For example: ¿The man¿s servility disgusted him, and so did his cheese-white hands with their dirty nails, and the stained teeth he revealed in his constant grin.¿ There is some old-fashioned humor, and very precise and descriptive words, depicting the scenes beautifully. This book takes place in Ancient Egypt, in the city of Thebes, just beside the Valley of the Kings. In this city lives a poor orphan named Ranofer, who despises his half brother Gebu, who beats and underfeeds him. He works as a lowly porter at a goldsmith shop, and would love to be goldsmith, but his selfish half-brother doesn¿t want to spend his money on apprenticing Ranofer to the goldsmith, Rekh. Soon, he starts suspecting that Gebu is stealing small amounts of gold, but he can¿t figure out how to prove Gebu guilty. His new friend, Heqet helps him, but just as everything was going well, Gebu apprentices Ranofer to himself. And later he realizes Gebu is up to something again- and it¿s up to Ranofer to stop him.

Pulls you in and doesn't let go

I have loved this book ever since I first read it more than 15 years ago. It's one of those few books that I've read over and over, and it still manages to intrigue and captivate me every time!

Then and now

My mom read this book to my siblings and I as kids. We were fascinated with it. I have re-read it many times and still am captured by the language and plot.

This book is amazing!

My teacher has been reading it during school, because we're currently on the study of Egypt. And honestly, it helped me pass my test. I don't know why so many people are saying this book is boring. They say that they're readers and all, but if you're a reader, you have to have a taste of all genres. You shouldn't read this because because you have to, you should read this book because you want to. By reading The Golden Goblet, I swear my vocabulary has improved about fifty times - and trust me, I am a very literate person.

In all honesty, just because it's historical fiction and it's placed in ancient Egypt, that doesn't mean it puts you to sleep. Because based on the reactions the class has been giving my history teacher, it definitely isn't a snore. This book has had us all on the edges on our sits, begging our teacher to not stop reading when she does.

And please! If you have only gotten through half of the book, then you are so not qualified to even consider this book boring. Because seriously, what book is going to give away the whole plot in the first six chapters (there are only about 14 chapters in this book)? Most certainly not any mystery book I've read. Keep in mind that this is also mystery and suspense. You can't consider this book mystery and suspense if you spill all of Gebu's intentions in the first half of the book. No, you're supposed to go through the whole book, wondering what the hell is going on, and then when you get to the end, you end up slapping yourself in the forehead because you didn't realize it any sooner.

I am not one for historical fiction, (in fact, I have only found two historical fictions book interesting to me - other than this book) and yet this book surprised me. I was seriously not looking forward to read it, but it proved me wrong, that's for sure. You say the writing in this story was so terrible? Try writing a historical fiction, and let's see how well you right it. I can guarantee you that most of you reviewers who say this author's writing is so bad will come out with crap stories. And seriously, if you critique someone else's writing in a published book, don't you think you should know how to write, too? Remember, writing includes the basic grammar and spelling skills. And to be honest, most of the one-star-people on here can't even spell horrible or sentence or please, and I think please is a dead giveaway. Maybe I'm just being hardcore or whatever, but I'm just giving my opinion. I'm just sick of people making fun of books they don't even finish. It's irritating. Even if I don't like a book, I still finish it. I think the author deserves that much. I mean, they finished a book, didn't they? They deserve some credit.

Golden Goblet

I read this book when i was in 6th grade as a class. I am now 17 and i have been looking for this book for a long time. i am going to order it because i remember i loved it so much. I am a real history and English junkie so this book is a great choice. The plot is exciting and suspensful. It teaches some about egypt history. the climax made me never want to stop reading it. (remember this was when i was in 6th grade.) If you are looking for a good book for your child this, I think, would sufice.

A Disapointing Novel

The Golden Goblet is a mystery/adventure by Eloise Jarvis McGraw. It has been given a Newberry Award, and been called ¿¿an excellent choice¿,¿ yet I would rate it a two on a scale of 1 to 5. It is disappointing and there is not enough action for it to be thoroughly intriguing. It lacks consistency of plots, and there are too many characters so it complicates the actual main idea. The book has either too much description in one place, or it¿s dominated by dialogue. Also, the writer does too much of the thinking for you, and is more concentrated on description and metaphors to think about this. This book is about a boy named Ranofer who lives in ancient Thebes with his half brother Gebu, who beats him and feeds him food that isn¿t fit for a rat. At first Gebu has him apprenticed to Rekh the goldsmith, but then after a series of unfortunate events he is forced out of the goldsmith's shop and apprenticed to Gebu. Ranofer then finds out that Gebu is stealing and has a goblet made of gold in his possession. One night Ranofer follows Gebu, and finds out something very interesting.

An okay book

The first few chapters are very boring, but as you read on, they get exciting and adventurous.

SNORES... A LOT

I am only half way through this book and i HATE IT!!!! If you like reading this book, then I would also suggest you read through the whole DICTIONARY for 'fun' too...

this book was so stupid and would not recommened it to anyone in their right mind. the one thing that irks me is that some people get on and review this book and say that it was poorly written when they can't write for crap!

How Can You Even Publish This Crap?!?

This is the absolute WORST book I have ever read in my life, and trust me, Ive read a lot of books. This book is so dum, I recommend that you don't even look at it, much less touch it!

I hated this book. i read it for class i fell alseep... i cant belive i had to read it.. it was not interesting at all!!!!

Outstanding!!!

I absolutely LOVED this book! It is the most wonderful book you could possibly imagine. The plot is amazingly attention grabbing and it had just enough twists and turns. The ending is quite a surprise and it is definitely not what I expected. This book kept me on the edge of my seat for six hours straight! I could NOT put it down! I loved it and you should definitely read it!

this was the most boaring thing you will ever have to read

BORING!!!!!

*snoring* man was this book boring. The whole plot is that this little kid is so mad and his life is so upseting and he can't get over it. His brother is mean to him and he can't figure out how he can stop him from stealing. WHO CARES IF YOU DONT LIKE PEOPLE STEALING FROM OTHER PEOPLE. My sisters tellituby book was more entertaining.
