The next time you're temped to watch CSI reruns, read this book instead! Spunky, sassy Gabby St. Claire sparkles in this new series. She'll keep you turning the pages.

Christian Review of Books
In this witty novel, chick lit meets mystery in the show-tune singing Gabby, creating a fun whodunit where you just don't know who killed the woman or which guy you like for the heroine. There's the changeable Detective Parker or the sweet guy-next-door-with-a-secret Riley for Gabby, and who but the would-be Senator husband would want the murder victim dead? Hazardous Duty will take you on a ride through twists, turns, quirks, acorn brownies, and spiritual questions that keep Gabby guessing. She's a character you're guaranteed to love, and the plot is entertaining and fast paced.

Captivating, entertaining, and downright funny, this book will keep you reading until the satisfying ending. Unique characters capture your heart and have you rooting for them from the beginning. Gabby St. Claire is truly a breath of fresh air.

Christy Barritt created one lovable and unique character. Readers will fall in love with Gabby from page one with her laugh out loud scenes and sarcastic humor. This mystery was fun to read as well as to solve. Up until the very end, I wasn't too sure who the real suspect was in the book. I'm not sure if Gabby St. Claire will morph into a book series, but I'm sure readers will want to meet her again at future crime cleaning scenes.

I really liked this stand alone book. It is thefirst book series, has 220 pages and no sex or profanity.there was murder, some violence and quiet a bit of gore. It had a great plot, some religion and a touch of romance. I liked the characters. The author did a really good job on this book. I am looking forward to reading the next one in the series. $2.99. For ages 16 and up. Not a YA book, it is just a PG book. AD

As an author and writing instructor, I tend to be a very critical reader, but this book passed every test. Christy Barritt is an extremely talented writer, capturing my attention with her opening line and retaining it until the conclusion of her noteworthy novel, Hazardous Duty. I adored the characters, enjoyed the fast-paced, intricately-woven murder mystery, and appreciated the perfect amount of well-written dialogue. Her protagonist is strong, yet lovable, with a unique career, and the author¿s voice is distinctive and wonderful. I cannot wait to read more of her works. This book belongs at the top of any fiction reader¿s list.

Every time I try to think of what I can say about this book, I fall asleep. Sorry. Gabby wanted to be a forensic specialist, but had to leave school before she got her degree. Now she owns a cleaning service focused on disaster recovery, specifically on crime scenes. The mystery itself is good. Part of the question is who the real target of violence is. The talk about God was awkward, in my opinion. And it was pretty hard to swallow a character being anti-evolution, but not for any religious reason. Do you know of anyone like that? I also did not care for the love triangle. Both men have movie star good looks, of course. Mr. Right Now thinks the way to a woman's heart is to mock her. A woman stays overnight in the room of Mr. Right, who is a Christian. What's up with that? "Hazardous Duty" is a quick, light read. I suspect I am not part of this author's target audience, though, not being an evangelical Christian fond of romance novels.

Gabby took me by surprise. I'm used to reading more serious Christian fiction, so Gabby's dry & witty humor took a bit of getting used to. But it didn't take long before she felt like a friend and I became immersed in her story. Hazordous Duty is fast paced, light hearted, and keeps you guessing. Gabby moves from one tribulation to another, barely getting out of one scrape, before landing in another. I'm looking forward to the next book in the series, to find out what Gabby decides, on several fronts. I'd recommend this to anyone who enjoys a mystery without the intensity of the 'darker side' details, and especially for those who love tongue in cheek humor, mixed with a very good story.

I loved this book! Christy's debut mystery is witty, kooky, and gripping all at the same time. Gabby is an intriquing amateur sleuth with a bizarre vocation. Lots of great characters and unexpected twists hooked me from the first line. It kept me turning the pages until the end. I sure hope there is a sequel in the oven. HAZARDOUS DUTY is a delicious recipe for spine-tingling fun.

Fair story. Good mystery, points taken away for being too preachy in the middle of a murder investigation. A little out of place for that. Seemed to be just tossed in there at rando. Otherwise,, good story.

I wanted to like this book. I thought Gabby's line of work was a great idea and there were things to like about Gabby, Riley, and Sierra. I am a fan of Christian fiction. But the writing left me with a headache in Gabby's single-mindedness on proving one person was guilty. She did not keep an open mind and question whether her hypothesis on who did what was true. And she thinks she would make a good forensic scientist? Well, maybe if you lock her up in a lab because until the last thirty pages she made a bumbling mess of investigating things! Now I need to take something for my headache.

This book combines romance, religion and mystery and pool with each genre. As a mystery it fails.

This was a delightful book. It is definitely mystery-light so don't expect a deep, convoluted mystery. However the characters are different and it just feels fun to read. There's no foul language or sex which is a very nice change. Loved it.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book! Great characters, great dialogue. Clean writing - devoid of vulgarity. Just bought the second book. Can't wait to start on it. Christie Barrett is now one of my favorite authors.

Quick paced, quirky read. The young heroine proved there was more that just beauty and ability. Pulled herself up without much help or encouragement

Loved this book! I hope Barnes andNoble get the other books in this series on here. I'll get them once they're available! I cant wait to read the others in this series! Funny, clean, suspenseful, faith centered story that portrays one of the Christian characters in an honest non preachy way.

Hazardous Duty is good clean fun! Barritt has crafted an enjoyable story that is easy to read--perfect for a lazy weekend afternoon that's in need of some suspense. My only complaint is that the ending seemed a little abrupt and I wished there had been more description of the town and certain side characters. Overall, still a wonderful book!

Finally a Christian book that is truly humorous and isn't cheesy, predictable, or boring. I have now read the second in this series and will continue with the whole thing. Love her style of writing. The mysteries are ablittle lame, but the while thing is so interesting with so many dynamics that i didn't care. Christy Barritt is my favorite author by far.

I love a combination of romance, mystery, and comedy and this book made me laugh out loud, try to figure out whodunit, and cheer for the two main characters, so I was happy to discover author Christy Barritt. I couldn't wait for the next in the series to come out! A great read!

I understood this was book 1 of a series, but the rest of this series isn't available as of 12.31.14. I'm bummed. I so enjoyed Gabby St Claires character and humor and wanted to read the rest of this series.

I can't say I loved anything in this book. The lead character's stubborness was frustrating, the police officer ignored evidence, and her romantic interest was could not be honest about himself. The mystery was ok, but I had figured it out early in the story. With all that being said I still found I enjoyed the way the story was written. The character interactions were intertaining and there was plenty of action. I recommend you give the book a try.

The warning that this is a Christian mystery should be up nearer to the title. The plot and character development moved right along until the middle of the book. Then gratuitous religion overlaid the characters and everything went flat. Pace forward from that point was uneven. Sorry, this is not an author that I will read again.
