Overview

The New York Times bestseller that's "heaven in hardcover" (New Orleans Times-Picayune) for Saints fans.

In the devastation of Hurricane Katrina, no symbol of disaster was more potent than New Orleans' Superdome: it became a horrific shelter of last resort where the utterly desperate rode out the storm.

Four years later, in that very stadium, the New Orleans Saints won the NFC championship and earned their first-ever trip to the Super Bowl, where they defeated the favored Indianapolis Colts 31-17.

This is the inspirational true story of a city recovering from disaster and a team with a history of heartbreak, as seen through the eyes of the coach who would help elevate them both to long- forgotten greatness.

    I couldn't put it down!

I got this book today and have read over half of it. I have never been more proud of the Saints and Sean Payton. He has done a great job coaching this team and helping this city. I have laughed, cried, and amazed while reading this book. If you are a Saints fan, a New Orleanian, or just like inspirational stories this is the book for you.

    GREAT READ!

As a New Orleanian and a Saints fan I LOVE this book! Sean Payton has a fun style and the book was a delight to read. I am a conservative female and I couldn't put down a book about football! He is a great guy with a big heart and coached our team with such class. I will read it again and again.

    more from this reviewer

    I Also Recommend:

Who Dat? It's the Home Team led by Sean Payton. A must read for every Saints fan.

Sean Payton shares his story of lifting the Saints franchise to new heights in Home Team.

It was not an easy job to build the offense and defense of the Saints. It took four years of hard work with the players. Sean faced plenty of challenges with building this franchise. Sean describes the initial meeting with Tom Benson and how he volunteered $100,000 of his salary to entice Gregg Williams to sign with New Orleans as the defensive head coach. He also wanted Drew Brees to be the Saints new quarterback and Sean describes how tense he felt when Drew boarded the plane after a few days to go to Miami.

Sean also tells what it was like working under Bill Parcells when he was learning the coaching aspect of the NFL.

However, be warned - there is some swearing in this book - the f word is used throughout this book. It is sporadic, though. It's the only reason I gave this book four stars rather than five.
