Biography

James Patterson had been working as a very successful advertising copywriter when he decided to put his Masters degree in English to a somewhat different use. Inspired by bestselling hair-raising thrillers like The Day of the Jackal and The Exorcist, Patterson went to work on his first novel. Published in 1976, The Thomas Berryman Number established him as a writer of tightly constructed mysteries that move forward with the velocity of a bullet. For his startling debut, Patterson was awarded the prestigious Edgar Award for Best First Mystery Novel—an auspicious beginning to one of the most successful careers in publishing.

A string of gripping standalone mysteries followed, but it was the 1992 release of Along Came a Spider that elevated Patterson to superstar status. Introducing Alex Cross, a brilliant black police detective/forensic psychologist, the novel was the first installment in a series of bestselling thrillers that has proved to be a cash cow for the author and his publisher.

Examining Patterson's track record, it's obvious that he believes one good series deserves another…maybe even a third! In 2001, he debuted the Women's Murder Club with 1st to Die, a fast-paced thriller featuring four female crime fighters living in San Francisco—a homicide detective, a medical examiner, an assistant D.A., and a cub reporter. The successful series has continued with other numerically titled installments. Then, spinning off a set of characters from a previous novel (1998's When the Wind Blows), in 2005 he published Maximum Ride: The Angel Experiment. Featuring a "flock" of genetically engineered flying children, the novel was a huge hit, especially with teen readers, and spawned a series of vastly popular fantasy adventures.

In addition to continuing his bestselling literary franchises, Patterson has also found time to co-author thrillers with other writers—including Peter de Jonge, Andrew Gross, Maxine Paetro, and Howard Roughan—and has even ventured into romance (Suzanne's Diary for Nicholas, Sam's Letters to Jennifer) and children's literature (santaKid). Writing at an astonishing pace, this prolific author has turned himself into a one-man publishing juggernaut, fulfilling his clearly stated ambition to become "the king of the page-turners."

Good To Know

Patterson's Suzanne's Diary For Nicholas was inspired by a diary his wife kept that tracked the development of their toddler son.

Two of Patterson's Alex Cross mysteries (Along Came a Spider and Kiss the Girls) have been turned into films starring Morgan Freeman; in 2007, a weekly television series premiered, based on the bestselling Women's Murder Club novels.

Chapter One

NORA COULD FEEL Connor watching her. He always did the same thing when she packed to leave on one of her trips. He'd lean his six foot three frame against the doorway to his bedroom, his hands buried in the pockets of his Dockers, a frown tugging on his face. He hated the thought of their being apart.

Usually he wouldn't say anything, though. He'd just stand there in silence as Nora filled her suitcase, occasionally taking a sip of Evian water, her favorite. But that afternoon he couldn't help himself.

"Don't go," he said in his deep voice. Nora turned with a loving smile. "You know I have to. You know I hate this, too." "But I already miss you. Just say no, Nora - don't go. To hell with them."

From day one, Nora was captivated by how vulnerable Connor allowed himself to be with her. It was in such sharp contrast to his public persona - a very rich and hard-driving hedge-fund manager with his own successful company in Greenwich, with another office in London. His puppy-dog eyes belied the fact that he was built like a lion. Powerful and proud.

Indeed, at the relatively young age of forty, Connor was pretty much king of all he surveyed. And in Nora, thirtythree, he'd found his queen, his perfect soul mate in life. "You know I could tie you up and keep you fromleaving," he said jokingly.

"That sounds like fun," said Nora, playing along. She lifted up the top of her suitcase, which was lying open on the bed. She was searching for something.

"First, though, could you maybe help me find my green cardigan?"

Connor finally chuckled. He got such a kick out of her. Good jokes, bad jokes - it didn't seem to matter. "Do you mean the one with the pearl buttons? It's in the master closet."

Nora laughed. "You were dressing up in my clothes again, weren't you?"

She headed for the cavernous walk-in closet. When she returned, green sweater in hand, Connor had moved to the foot of the bed. He stared at her with a grin and a twinkle in his eye.

"Uh-oh," she said. "I know that look." "What look?" he asked.

"The one that says you want a going-away present." Nora thought for a moment before flashing a grin of her own. She dropped the sweater on a chair and slowly walked up to Connor, purposefully stopping just inches from his body. She was wearing only her bra and panties.

"From me, to you," she whispered in his ear, leaning in. There wasn't that much to unwrap, but Connor took his time anyway. He gently kissed Nora's neck, then her shoulders, his lips tracing an imaginary line downward to the jutting curves of her small, pert breasts. There he lingered. One hand stroking her arm, the other reaching around to remove her bra.

Nora shivered, her body tingling. Cute, funny, and very good in bed. What more could a girl ask for? Connor knelt and kissed Nora's stomach, his tongue lightly drawing circles around her little wink of a belly button. Then, with a thumb resting on either side of her hips, he began to roll down her panties. He charted the progress with kiss after kiss after kiss.

"That's ... very ... nice," whispered Nora. Now it was her turn. As Connor's tall, muscular frame straightened out before her, she began to undress him. Quickly, deftly, but sensually.

For a few seconds they stood still. Perfectly naked. Gazing at each other, taking in each and every detail. God, what could be better than this?

Suddenly Nora laughed. She gave Connor a quick, playful shove, and he fell back onto the bed. He was fully aroused. A prodigious human sundial lying there on the duvet.

    James Patterson didn't disappoint me!!!

I have yet to find a book that James Patterson has written that I haven't liked! I have read all of the murder club mystery books, except for the 9th one that just came out! I love the short chapters because it works perfectly for in between classes at school, I don't have to stop in the middle. The book is about a lady who steals money from rich men that she seduces into marrying her and then she murders them. It has the perfect balance of mystery, suspense, and sexuality that it caught my attention. I read it in two days! Once I got into it I couldn't put it down. I don't want to give away the ending, but it definitely has you thinking one way and ends up another! It's a great book by Patterson! I definitely think it is one to add to the collection. I could only put 5 recommendations, but I would recommend all the murder mystery series and any other book written by him!

    Quick and Fun!

This was a very quick and fun read. I think that i finished this book in like two days, and that is with my two year old running around. I thought that a female villian is cool, since the man always plays the bad one! This main character is sly and you just want her to get what she deserves! Loved it and like i said before very fun and quick read.

    Very Entertaining

I have not yet read anything by James Patterson and this was my first by him but I can't wait to read the rest of his novels after this. I could not put down the book. It was very entertaining and easy to read. I thought at first by reading the cover it was a novel mostly for men but as a woman, I throughly enjoyed it. I also liked that he ended the story, didn't leave it open for a few sequels.

    Awesome!

"Honeymoon" is an awesome book. This was my first James Patterson novel. I will definitely be reading more of his books. This book was one of those books that really made you think. It also was very hard to put down. I know that phrase is overly-used, but "Honeymoon" truly was a thriller. I would highly reccomend this book to anyone who is looking for a fresh, highly mysterious thriller. Loved this book!

    What a disappointment!

Very shallow book and didn't enjoy it at all. If you want to read something exceptionally good by this author, read one of his oldest books, Kiss The Girls. Very good and scary.

    Bored to death

Does James Patterson write books on his own any more? Every month something new comes out with his name on it... seems like it's all a marketing scheme. Anyway, I bought this book (based on it's title) to read on the beach during my honeymoon. I was thorougly disappointed. Boring plot, very predictable. If you like Patterson, stick to his early 'and single-author' novels.

    A James Patterson fan!

I have recently started reading James Patterson and I must say this was one of my favorites so far. This book was a page turner and I couldn't wait to see what happened next. I also Was anxious to see how many more husbands character Nora Sinclair was going to obtain. However I did think it was rather rediculous When Nora Sinclair was arrested and then on some technicality got released. Could have found something better than that! The ending was just how I wanted it to be, the villian got what she deserved, dose of her own medicine. 'no pun intended' Another good one James! =0'
