Overview

The traditional Regency classic from New York Times bestseller Loretta Chase is back…

At the advanced age of 26, the independent, wealthy and imminently practical Isabella Latham has no expectation of marriage. But, good-hearted and dutiful, Isabella accompanies her two young country cousins to oversee their London debut...only to find that it's she who is attracting suitors...all of whom do seem to have quite an excess of creditors!

There's the sinfully sexy Basil Trevelyan, a rake through and through, but so charming that even sensible Isabella is almost tempted. But then there's his maddeningly handsome—and maddeningly arrogant!—cousin, Edward Trevelyan, seventh Earl of Hartleigh, who has no need of Isabella's dowry; but whose adorable orphaned ward needs a mama. Could he love Isabella for herself? Isabella is too busy trying to decide whether to kiss him—or kill him!

Poor, poor Isabella. What's a girl to do? But more importantly...who's a girl to choose?

About the Author

After a heroic attempt to be an English major forever, Loretta Chase stoically accepted her degree but kept on reading and writing. As well as working in academe, she had an enlightening if brief life in retail and a Dickensian six-month experience as a meter maid. In the course of moonlighting as a corporate video scriptwriter, she succumbed to the charm of a producer, who lured her into writing novels -- and marrying him. The union has resulted in what seems like an awful lot of books and quite a few awards, including the Romance Writers of America’s Rita.

I dont know if its the rush to publish, but the story seems sort of choppy. I lost interest quickly. Im sad about it because I love this author's books.

I was disappointed. I thought the dialogue and the situations were unrealistic

Historical romance that doesn't disappoint. Truly a good read that doesn't simper. If you like a good story plot as well as romance, this book is for you.

Lacks detail so the story gets confusing and annoying

Loved the writing style, great characters and open ending on the "reformed villian" allows for a second story to follow.

Plot was okay but numerous spelling and grammatical errors abound. The lack of separation between scene changes was annoying and shows a lack of editing/formatting. I guess that's why its 99 cents!

There are problems with the plot. It was hard to follow at times and was compounded by the fact that the author changes scenes from one paragraph to the next with no page break or anything. It reads as though it is an unedited first rough draft which is too bad, because I liked all three main characters.

If you enjoy reading historical romantic fictional novels, then you will enjoy this one. A quick read with satisfying plot, story line and characters.

This book was very difficult to read. It jumped from point of views so abruptly that it was hard to keep up and frankly gave me a headache. Also, the writing style was too flowery to the point where it became irritating. Furthermore there was absolutely no romance. Isabella only gets slight feelings around Hartleigh, but there is nothing in their interactions to suggest they might grow to love each other. I honestly couldn't finish this book, which was very disappointing because I've enjoyed other works by this author.
