Overview

They're off...a boy and an endearing, rhyme-spouting bear, who squires him through a fantastic world of berries. And their adventure comes to a razzamatazz finale under a starberry sky.

A little boy walking in the forest meets a big lovable bear that takes him on a delicious berry-picking adventure in the magical world of Berryland.

Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature
A celebration of berries, this exquisitely drawn tale follows a boy and a bear as they feast on freshly picked blueberries, strawberries, blackberries and more. The verse is often silly and almost nonsensical, with lots of rhyming and repetition. The illustrations are full of visual puns (flowers look suspiciously like jam-filled cookies, water lilies have pats of butter inside, etc.) Originally published in 1983, it is now available as a sturdy board book.
Children's Literature
This story follows a young boy and his bear friend who romp and rhyme through a world filled with berries of all kinds. The reader becomes "surrounded" with berries as they are counted at the beginning and later fill up a canoe, go over a dam to make a "waterfall," mix with animals at a country fair, fill up a farm, ride on a train, appear at a circus, and finally explode in the sky like a fireworks display. This is a diverting book designed to spark the imagination of very young children.

Read & Play version is fabulous!

Just downloaded the new read and play version on our nook color yesterday. This book is such a cute read, and then add to that the beautiful illustrations - now slightly annimated - it's so wonderful! Our entire family has joy reading it.
Great job, nook color creators! We love it.

    A book well worth keeping!

My daughter and I fell in love with this wonderfully colorful, exuberent tale when she was but a wee child of two. Our love affair lasted through many evening reading sessions, curled together on the bed with her puffalumps and babydolls, until the book all but fell apart in her 8th year. She is sixteen now, and I find myself pulling out my card so we can have another copy in our home, for all the wonderful memories it holds for both of us. Bruce Degen truly dusted the pages with magic when he gave life to the boy and the bear in this fanciful book. If you share nothing else with your child, share this book. It makes everything else possible.

    Always Fun to Read!

Though I have read Jamberry hundreds of times, I am not bored of it. The words are fun to read and the illustrations are delightful! Our first copy drown in milk, and I am now purchasing the book a second time.

A must have for GRANDPARENTS :)

Got this for my grandson even though he's only 4 mos. It does capture his attention. He listens to the sounds and I enjoy the time together. The Big kid in me loves the animation and I must confess, the drawing pad is my favorite. So, for all you grandparents, splurge. You won't regret it.

    more from this reviewer

Highly Recommended for Preschool and Kindergartner

This is a great interactive book for your 3 - 6 year old. They will love it and while they are having fun they are learning. See how many berries you can catch...What goes quack?...Even a page to practice your drawing abilities. Well worth the price. It's a book. It's a game. It's a drawing board. It's a musical instrument.

    MEMORIES!

This is one of those books that I distinctly remember from my childhood days. I bought it about a year ago from B&N for my one year old niece, and she absolutely loves it! She never gets tired of it [though being the reader for countless times might get tiring for me..], and recently she's beginning to say Jamberry! The book is wonderful, creative, and the rhyming is very catchy. Definitely a classic! :D

    A Favorite

This was a favorite of ours when my son was a little boy. A book with wonderfully rhyming and rythmic prose, combined with beautiful illustrations. My son is 19 now. We still have this book and someday I hope to read it to my grandchildren.

    Sweet

Great story, illustrations & animations. Only con is this is one of those ebooks with very quiet audio so you have to listen closely which is a challenge for the 2 yr old. The interactive games are a great feature. Overall we're happy with this.
