Peyton Callaghan is a fighter, a survivor, a warrior. When it was kill or be killed, she didn’t hesitate. Now, she’s the only one left standing, haunted by the ghost of a dead man and plagued with the guilt of having taken another person’s life. The upheaval of her life to start over in Rock Falls has been rocky at best, her worst nightmares and wildest desires colliding with each other. Terror tortures her nightly, breeding fear inside her dreams, and in every waking moment, she fights against the lust that threatens to drown her.

Jayden King harbors secrets beneath his outward playboy demeanor. The women who warm his bed lay claim to nothing—you can’t lay claim to someone who doesn’t have a heart. His wit and charm are exquisite means of deflection and distraction from the turmoil roaring inside him. He’s hidden in plain sight, a mask of humor keeping the sadness at bay. The only real reflections of his soul are in the artwork he creates, pieces of him muraled on the skin of others. If tattoo artists could have a calling card, the etch of pain and suffering in each design would be his. Because when the lights go out and the women he’s satisfied have gone home, he’s alone with every fear he refuses to face.

After suffering from a brutal attack at the hands of her roommate’s stalker, Peyton is forced to live with the object of her affection. Without intention, she breathes love into his starved heart, and although the mere thought of that terrifies him, Jayden would burn the city down to keep her safe, causalities be damned.

Some people you have. Some people you hold.

She can have him. She can hold him. But can she keep King? Or is it impossible for Callaghan to keep something that was never really hers to begin with?

A badass alpha tattoo artist with a hardened heart that can only be softened by one woman? Hmmm…seems familiar. Oh, that’s right, because it’s a waaaaay overdone plot line. Peyton is a hairstylist, and she’s been through a lot. And she’s been carrying a torch for Jayden, though he’s made it clear that he wants none of what she has to offer. When things get intense for Peyton and she needs a safe place, she finds it with Jayden and he finds it harder than ever not to go where his long dead heart wants to so desperately to take him. Ok, first things first: this is a well written book. Whatever comes after this I just want to impress upon you that that pacing, character development and technical writing were great. However, the story was just…too much. Poor Peyton, I mean how much can one person go through without it just seeming so completely unrealistic. I found myself scoffing at parts of this book just because it just got to be too unbelievable for me. Peyton the character is great, but the plot line and arc of the story just had me rolling my eyes a bit. You know what saved it though? Jayden. Sure, he’s a character that has been done before BUT the boy is a charmer. As far as tattooed badass alphas go, he’s a good one. He saved the story for me. The plot, in general, is something we’re seeing in this genre time and time again. I guess maybe at this point I have read too many of them and they all seem to blur together. But, because the writing is good, Jayden is awesome and the chemistry was hot between Jayden and Peyton, I can’t dislike this book. I’m not sure it’s something that will be memorable for me, but it’s still a solid 4 star read. Reviewed by Sara Squared for Crystal’s Many Reviewers *Copy Provided for review*

Oh my goodness loved this book from beginning to end. I love when characters get second chance at love. That's one of the reason why I'm hopelessly romantic. Mr king with tattoos and a alpha male is such a turn on. The ending of the book was shocking. I've been thinking Jackson needs his story to be told I've been wanting it since the first book. I got my wish and I can't wait. Hope I don't have to wait long for it. hands down to the author it gets better she better.

The story of Peyton and Jayden. When we begin in the prologue, Peyton is on a plane. She wants to start fresh in a new town. In chapter 1, she has been in this small town for 2 years. She has a roommate and friends, and a man she lusts after (the "King", which is Jayden's last name). This is the fourth book in the series, and I can say that it was frustrating to me at first, having not read the first three books. Tons of names and people that were probably established in earlier books flew by, and it wasn't explained well enough for a newcomer. I also feel as though several of the action sequences skimmed over were probably detailed in another book(s). However, I really enjoyed the writing style and the two main characters, so I chilled out about the secondary characters and concentrated on Peyton, Jayden, (her friend) Colt and (his friend) Jackson. Peyton is a hair stylist, and Jayden owns a tattoo shop. It is clear that Peyton has lusted after Jayden for a while now, but he was not interested. He knew she'd be a long term investment for his heart, and he wasn't ready/willing for that to happen. Circumstances changed, and that poor girl Peyton goes through the wringer multiple times (really, TOO much - but it made for compelling reading)! It brings out Jayden's giant cave-man, domineering side. While he is no doubt sexy, he did sometimes go TOO far in his actions. All things became clear, at least for this couple (for me). I enjoyed the story, and I would definitely be interested in previous books, as well as future books. The author left it in a compelling spot for one of the secondary characters! She has done it again!! Anne Jolin is simply amazingly talented. This book smashes you into pieces and then builds you back up again. Peyton is one fierce little woman and I adore her. Jayden is a sexy alpha male that every woman needs to read about. He's broady and stand offish but inside his just and big teddy bear you just want to hug. Every woman needs a Jayden!!! I absolutely loved this book!!!! It has it's highs and it's lows and is a complete roller coaster ride but once you think nothing else could possibly happen, you better think again because you are in for a surprise. I highly recommend this to everyone and if you haven't read the rest of the series. You definitely NEEED TOO!!!!! HAPPY READING!!!!

Another Rock Falls gem! As supporting characters in the first three Rock Falls books, Payton and Jayden were easy to fall in love with. So, when it came time for their story, I was chomping at the bit! I definitely wasn’t disappointed!  Peyton is deceptively sweet, soft, and innocent. And, while she definitely possesses those traits, she hides the incredible strength within. She has the kind of witty and loving personality that draws you in and makes you want to be friends with her. But, the secrets of her past weigh on her and it tends to keep her from being truly open with almost everybody. On top of that, she never truly lets her guard down, always prepared with her fight or flight response.   Jayden is rough and tough on the outside, covered in ink and owning a tattoo parlour. But, underneath the exterior, and occasionally in plain view, he is a teddy bear. He’s fiercely protective of those he cares about, passionate, loving, and a pillar of strength for the weak to lean on. In Peyton’s case, he just might go a tad overboard. Jayden can’t keep from wanting her and the need to shelter her, unfortunately, at times, it translates into smothering her. He is convinced that he isn’t the right man for her, but he doesn’t know how to combat the jealousy of seeing her with another man. Ever since Peyton met Jayden, she’s had a crush on him and despite his constant string of meaningless women, she hasn’t been able to squelch it. Circumstances put her in the wrong place at the wrong time and Peyton’s life is in danger. Jayden’s over protective nature kicks in and he brings her to live with him, which can only lead to spontaneous combustion!  Their love story has a rocky start because Jayden is hot and cold, hurting Peyton’s feelings from time to time. However, as things escalate between them, and danger stalks Peyton, they grow closer and little by little fight the obstacles standing in their way. This book was everything I could hope for with Jayden and Peyton. Throughout the rest of the series, their story was so anticipated that it might have fallen short of expectation. Instead, it was everything that these two needed to make me happy and so satisfied with their ending. They both have such fun personalities, that you can’t help but chuckle sometimes, at other times you’ll be smiling at the sweetness, and hen of course there are the pages where you’ll be reaching for an icy glass of water to cool you off! Keeping King is a fabulous addition to the Rock Falls collection. If you haven’t read the previous books, this can be read as a standalone. However, I highly, highly recommend that you read them all. Each story will pull you in and make you want to move right on to the next. The heroines are sassy, sexy, and fun. The heroes are hot alphas with a softer side that will have you sighing.  You can’t go wrong with these books and Keeping King is a fabulous read! Anne Jolin is a 1-click author for me and her books go right onto my re-read list!
