The Key has unlocked a great story!
In the novel The Key, a battle is raging between the gods Lathenia and Lorian over the fate of the human world. Each god has built up an army Lathenia leads the Order of Chaos and Lorian leads the Named. Under the ancient city of Veridian lies a treasury of weapons, which could tip the war in the Named¿s favor, if they only had the key. Matt, the newly appointed leader of the Named, has to figure out a way to retrieve the key from the mythical city of Atlantis and uncover the prophesied traitor in their midst. Through many encounters and a final battle of enormous proportions, the Named must find a way to use their powers and work as one to finally defeat the Order of Chaos for good. Although they have to work together to fight Lathenia, the members of the Named have very different personalities that oftentimes clash with each other. Matt, for example, has always been extremely protective of his sister Isabel. When he learns of his immortality and takes on the role as leader of the Named, he has a hard time willingly putting Isabel in any danger, even though it is his responsibility. Ethan has an extremely strong instinct for what the right thing to do is, in any situation. Because of this, he sometimes seems to act impulsively and recklessly. Rochelle is a truthseer, a mind reader, and can identify substances and poisons simply by touch. Many of the Named do not trust Rochelle because she had been a member of the Order for a long time. As early as the prologue, we see how much Lathenia is willing to risk for power and how little she values human life. During an argument, Lorian calmly states, ¿Sister, neither of us controls the realms. The humans govern themselves. They have free will and choose their own destiny. For as long as they are mortal we are only their caretakers.¿ To which Lathenia replies, ¿That will change.¿ Lathenia¿s willingness to risk it all puts the Named in more danger than they think. She will use every resource available to her, and could destroy the world as we know it. It is important that the Named realize this, and put all their efforts into stopping her as soon as possible. Their sense of urgency is increased when Lathenia invades the human world with creatures from the dark underworld. She must be stopped at all costs, or their world will be lost, shrouded in darkness. For me, this book was amazing. It addresses loyalty, courage, trust, friendship, love, and war, things that we deal with in everyday life. It also explores time traveling, and how messing with the past could influence the future. Although time traveling sounds amazing, I agree that what has happened should stay the same. That way, for better or worse, the choices we make will have an impact on our lives. If there isn¿t any undo button, every move has to count.
