Overview

This story is based on a single piece of pure speculation.

Suppose the transistor had been invented in the United Kingdom in 1937, instead of in the United States in 1947?

There is no reason why it could not have been. Semi-conductors had been used in "cat's whisker" radios since the 1920's.

And once transistors were available computers would soon follow -- computers born in a desperate war.

    Misleading description...

The description leads you to think it's a science fictiony, alt-history type, but the mythical computer storyline is inserted as an afterthought into a standard WWII commando-raid adventure and only used for aircraft navigation purposes; after a brief exposition about transistors, binary system, etc. the only practical effect on the plot is that the commandos are parachuted on target, which apparently wasn't always the case. Take out the computer references, the story is some 20 pages shorter, and quite frankly not at all memorable, I'm sorry to say.

    Good read. Proofreading errors.

A really good read. Fast paced and clever. Proofreading oversights of grammar, spelling and punctuation became a major distraction.

    Okay

If you are into WWII and related military strategy and weapons, you will probably enjoy this book much more than I did. That really isn't my cup of tea.

The book was still interesting with a good story and interesting characters.
