Overview

Bounty hunter Morgan Bailey is still recouping from her latest vampire kill when she receives a new assignment: hunt down the sunwalker who stole a priceless amulet from a mysterious millionaire. Sunwalkers — vampires who are immune to sunlight — are notoriously difficult to find, let alone kill, but Morgan’s not worried. She’s never met a vampire she couldn’t dust. But when this particular sunwalker comes looking for her…well, all bets are off.

Because not only is he cunning and charming, he is undeniably gorgeous — and in possession of an ancient secret that, if unleashed, could destroy the human world. Making matters worse, a strange darkness has awakened inside of Morgan, threatening to overwhelm her unless she can uncover the truth about the amulet everyone so desperately wants.

With a kick-ass heroine and captivating supporting cast, Kissed by Darkness launches an addictive new series for fans of urban fantasy.

Meet the Author

Shéa MacLeod spent most of her life in Portland, Oregon, before moving to an Edwardian townhouse in London located just a stone’s throw from a local cemetery. Such a unique locale probably explains a lot about her penchant for urban fantasy post-apocalyptic sci-fi paranormal romances, but at least the neighbors are quiet. Alas, the dearth of good doughnuts in London drove her back across the pond to the land of her birth. She is the author of the Sunwalker Saga and Dragon Wars series.

What a fantastic read! I am so glad I took a chance on this author. I had never heard of her prior to my download. The plot flowed seamlessly and was continuously interesting. The pendulum swing between the present and the past people of Atlantis both reminded me of Stargate Atlantis [The Stargate franchise is my all-time favorite] and also reminded me of the Event [a really good show that NBC recently cancelled regarding humanoids from a faraway planet with a dying sun]. The storyline was creative, original and all around spectacular! I sure hope the author blows up soon, because she definitely is talented! From the beginning of reading this book, I instantly knew I was going to read the next book. Better yet, I instantly knew this series was going to become one of my top favorites. This series is heavy on the dark urban fantasy but can also be considered what I like to call SF light. I highly recommend this book to fellow dark urban fantasy readers and look forward to the next book Kissed by Fire due out 8/17/11. I also recommend: Kelly Gay - The Hour of Dust & Ashes

Morgan is the person who chases down the things that go bump in the night. After being bit by a vampire and not turning, Morgan gained some new abilities. Abilities that allowed her to be faster, stronger and heal quicker than a human. Making her one of the best bounty hunters out there. However, her latest job has her questioning everything. She’s not overly convinced that the guy she’s hunting is the one who deserves her attention. In fact, as it turns out the guy who hired her is the real danger. This was the first book by Shea’s I’ve read. I liked that she took a normal vampire story and mixed Atlantean mythology into it. That little adjustment made the story more enjoyable. I felt like I was reading something completely new. Which is kind of a rare thing when you read as much as I do. So not only do we have vampires, psychics, and fey. We also get the priests, priestesses and Templar Knights. The story moves at a good pace but I did find myself getting a little restless at times. The author does a lot of beating around the bush. There was a lot of talk in the story. Now normally I’m not against dialogue but there was so much telling but not enough showing, if you know what I mean. There were a lot of times where the characters sat around discussing what it all could mean and what was really going on, instead of getting out there and doing stuff, they just talked a lot. I just with there was more action. I know that you’re not supposed to judge a book by its cover but can we take a second to look at this one? The cover leaves a lot to be desired. The ho-hum look on the models face, the bored looking sitting position, the make-up job that would make a drag queen cringe, and that god awful wig. Goodness, the cover is just awful and I’m sad to see that it doesn’t change any in the upcoming novels either. However, the story inside is pretty good. So in this case, just don’t look at the cover before reading it. Aside from the lack of action and the less than stellar cover this was a pretty good read. It had a lot of elements to it that kept me interested. Sure, there were times where I would skim along a little to get back to the good stuff but the story as a whole was good. I just wish there was more oomph in the story. It’s a book about a hunter after all.

I am a huge fan of strong, witty heroines, and this novel did not disappoint - Morgan Bailey is the new bad-ass on the paranormal romance scene. The book is reminiscent of Buffy but with the literary talent of the scores of paranormal writers out there like Kim Harrison or Jeaniene Frost. It is a novel that keeps the reader laughing and guessing - plus, a couple of cool twists you just DON'T see coming. I highly recommend it and I'm looking forward to reading the next. This series has the potential to be the Next Great!

Loved the main character's quirky personality, made for lots of laughs. The supporting characters were well developed and the storyline kept me glued to the book from start to finish. Was given this book as a gift but will DEFINITELY be buying the next one and any others from this author!

Completely enjoyed this story. I purchased both books, however I had to get the second one from smashwords directly because there was something wrong with the link to buy Kissed by Fire from B&N. The author has created an interesting world to get lost in. Her characters are witty, sharp, and the action keeps you page turning. I would highly recommend this series. :)

I really enjoyed this story. The main character Morgan had me laughing out loud, and whats not to like about Jack? I loved the ending. The author did a great job of wrapping up the story line, but also leaving it open for the next book. Which I can't wait to read. Check this book out you won't regret it.
