Using heartbreak and humor, this unique book shows what it takes to decide who you are, who you want to be, and what it takes to get there. It's written in a format such that you can start or stop whenever you want, and gives a concrete example of the hard work it takes to be a success. -----from a review by D. Wallsh
Liberally peppered with soul-touched paintings and sketches, an intriguing and motivational testament to the strength of the human spirit and the pursuit of happiness and success on your own terms.
A captivating look into the formation of an artist from a wide eyed girl to a diamond edged force of creativity. Pick it up if you have any interest in comics, in staying focused on the creative drive, keeping a hold of your dreams, kink culture, renfaires and the SCA, living life to the fullest, New York City culture, or if you just want a great laugh in a bite sized format. The book is memoir and art gallery in one.

Whether you are an artist yourself or not, this book taps into your veins and connects with the creative spirit in the same way that oxygen infuses tired blood with new life. Marrus is the self-directed sojourner who invites the reader to share her journey through the sticky darkness and sparkling delights of New York City; she walks through the fire even as the world burns... never losing sight of the horizon, never losing touch with her inner compass or her desires, her conquests, her dreams.
Three weeks after finishing college, I caught a one-way Greyhound bus to New York and was soon illustrating for Valiant & ElfQuest Comics, painting book and album covers, and creating interior illustrations for various magazines and entertainment companies.
After 9/11, I left NYC, and relocated to New Orleans...just in time for Hurricane Katrina. Opportunity lives where most fear to tread, so I bought a flooded house in the 9th Ward and put it back together under the direction of my amazing partner, Jay.
In 2009, I completed my illustrated autobiography, "Lightsurfing: Living Life in the Front of My Mouth". It's a tale of making a living with wits and a paintbrush, and all the wild, weird, and wonderful things that happen as a result.
