Cedric was excited when Julie asked if he'd put up Aaron, her college-professor son, for the Christmas visit he was making. Meeting Aaron, Ced was sure it was love at first sight--again. Maybe it was, but it soon got a lot more complicated, until finally things started falling apart. In the end, he wasn't sure what to think, about a lot of things.

I've read two Rutherford short stories and this novella. There are a few themes which they have in common, but Jon has really written a very good story with _Max and Julie_. While it's a gay romance at heart, there is a bit of mystery to it. He does a great job of developing his characters, giving a bit of foreshadowing (without giving away the twists and turns of the plot), revealing the protagonist's inner thoughts, and developing a very believable, enjoyable plotline. I recommend it highly!
