Overview

In the first book of her erotic new series, Lora Leigh invites you to an intriguing world where genetically altered Breeds and the humans who created them commingle—and sometimes cross the boundaries of desire…

Cursed with the extraordinary power to feel other peoples’ emotions, Megan Fields has tucked herself away in a remote corner of New Mexico, working as a small-town sheriff’s deputy. She finds solace in the silence and heat of the desert. But when Breeds begin dying on her watch, Megan realizes that the secrets from her past can’t stay buried forever. Someone is out for blood—her blood.

An arrogant Feline Breed, Braden Arness broods with feral intensity. His mission to solve the mysterious murders brings him to Megan, a woman who accosts his senses like no other. Only with him can she let down her guard—and surrender to the insatiable hunger that wracks her body. But as they team up to hunt the elusive killers, Braden and Megan find themselves becoming the prey…

Editorial Reviews

From Barnes & Noble
The Barnes & Noble Review
Lora Leigh cranks up the adrenaline in this opening volume of an erotic, paranormal series. The time is 2023; the place, southern New Mexico. Megan Fields, an empath whose gifts have overwhelmed her too many times, seeks refuge as a sheriff's deputy in a small town. It's a quiet life until she finds dead Breeds (the bastard offspring of humans and animals) on her watch and meets Braden Arness in the process. Arness, part lion, is well aware of the conspiracy against the Breeds and much attracted to Megan. As the two help the Breeds fight for their lives against an unknown enemy, Megan finally masters her gifts and meets her match. We are definitely in Christine Feehan country here, but Megan is a terrific character, and the romance is as alpha as anyone could want. Readers will cheer as Megan, a Lara Croft-like fighter, finally gets a partner as fearless as she is. Ginger Curwen

    entertaining romantic science fiction suspense

In 2023 New Mexico Sheriff¿s Deputy Megan Fields patrols a lonely part of the desert. She likes this area because she is unable to control her empathic skills and rarely runs into anyone in this remote area. She senses trouble and soon finds a vehicle with two people dead inside. Someone starts shooting at her. Lion breed (mix of lion DNA into human DNA) Braden Arness helps expedite Megan from the mess though she does not trust a breed especially one who just bit her. --- The next day inside Sheriff Lance¿s office, Braden sees Megan and becomes instantly hard and jealous when he senses her arousal, though he is not sure who the male is. Braden insists that the Coyotes who killed the two breeds wanted Megan dead as she was the target. He will stay by her side to protect her though she tells him to get lost as she fears her attraction to Braden as she gave up on sex years ago it is hard to enjoy anything when you hear the inner thoughts and fantasies of one¿s partner. As they fall in love and he already marked her with his bite as his, a powerful deadly enemy wants her dead. --- This entertaining romantic science fiction suspense will remind the audience of KITTY AND THE MIDNIGHT HOUR by Carrie Vaughn and MaryJanice Davidson¿s DERIK¿S BANE as this futuristic world filled with ¿Breeds¿ seems ¿normal¿. The paranormal elements blend smoothly into the exciting story line and the lead couple make a fine pairing though society forbids a relationship between a half breed and a purebred. Though some readers will be turned off by too much profanity and the lead female denies she is in love too often, sub-genre readers will appreciate this delightful thriller. --- Harriet Klausner

    The Uber-Alpha Couple!

Now, THIS is the type of storyline I knew Leigh was good for! Megan (a regular human with "a little extra" is a Deputy Sheriff in her small town. When trouble comes afoot, her cousin Lance (the main Sheriff) hires on Braden (a Lion Breed assassin) to help find out what's going on. The couple (Megan and Braden) have to work together to try and figure out why the Council wants Megan dead. Megan's not too thrilled about the prospect, but she can't seem to help being drawn to Braden, and Braden, her. Megan is independent, adventurous, and strong-willed, and Braden has his hands full trying to keep up with her. This was an EXCELLENT book, and I'm looking forward to reading the rest of the Breed series!!!

Great series, unlike most I have read.

I am a big vampire romance girl, but this series has changed that. I really like her books. It not just here it is and little plot to back it up. She creates a depth with her stories that makes you want more than before. Yes her books have alot of sex, but if you pay attention to the section you are buying it from what do you expect. I think Megan and Braden have great dynamics. Try this series it wont let you down.

    Predictable

I may not continue reading the rest of the series after reading this. Why is it that all of the female love interests in this series all have like 10 military brothers?

Best in the series I've read so far....:-)

The plot is moderately beleivable and thought out, so that it could be built up. Braden & Megan are well matched and very likeable...even though Braden is arrogant his sense of humour makes him lovable...wish he was real!!!

    Love the Breeds

Lora Leigh has created a niche with her fantastic breed series. This was the first book in the series I picked up and it wasn't the last. As soon as I read the last page, I bought two more. I love the world she's created. The breeds are sexy as hell and the heroines are as kick ass as they come. Highly Recommended!

An Overall Good Book Worth Exploring!

Lora Leigh is an amazing author! I enjoy all of the Breeds series, though I have yet to read any of her other books, I can definetely say that I enjoy her writing style. Megan's Mark is an extremely steamy romance, that you really do have to read to believe^_^

    I Also Recommend:

I missed the "EROTICA" description for this book.

Plot is good, once you get past like "my co*k is so hard" and "I am so wet," which frequented the entire book! The true kicker, was realizing who the villain was. A FREAKING SURPRISE!!!! Makes me kind of interested to reading the other serious, of course skipping the erotica, so I can find out what company is behind the scheme.---Sorry can't give too much away.

    A reviewer

MEGAN'S MARK by Lora Leigh ~ An entertaining read. Eroticism is prevalent in this novel, as promised. There are moments of hilarity, lust, love and hardship. Though there are hints of sexual abuse, the author refrains from becoming too descriptive. I appreciate the author¿s approach: to allude rather than illustrate that particular part of the story. In this instance, Ms. Leigh gets the point across just fine without having to be explicit. I am curious as to whether or not she will be doing a follow-up novel with Jonas Wyatt 'aka F2-07'. I want to hear his and Aimee¿s full story. On the other hand, maybe he and Mia, his PA at Sanctuary, will formulate a relationship¿

    just hear me out...

if you like reading **cough** 'sexy' scenes in books, get this book. if you really read these kinds of books for the romantic parts, like he really loves here happily ever after, then you might want to get this book, but you should probably just borrow it

    Could've, should've been better

I am a huge fan of this author, but this one left me scratching my head. Megan was annoying and I thought Braden could have been a little more sexy and a little less overbearing. For me it was just an ok read.

Flipped through the pages. . .

Not because I couldn't wait to see what happened but because I HOPED something good would happen soon before I went to sleep. I'm not even really understanding the title. Mark is not the main character Braden was. I've read Leigh's previous novels about the big cats and Braden has got to be the least appealing one of all. I didn't feel like he and Megan had as hot chemistry together as Leigh's other characters. The love scenes seemed forced, just like going through the motions or something and Megan flat out got on my nerves, jeez. The whole part about her accepting her psychic abilities was like pulling a tooth. I really wanted a size ten boot to put up her you know what. Anyway I really enjoyed Lora's other books but this one lacked the pizazz she showed in the books written for Ellora's Cave. I really hope her next one is better.
