Editorial Reviews

Publishers Weekly
In Murder at Midnight, Marshall Cook's bland second Monona Quinn mystery (after 2003's Murder Over Easy), Mitchell, Wis., newspaper editor Quinn finds Father O'Bannon with his throat slit in the sacristy of his parish church. The author offers lots of angles that might explain how even a "good" man like O'Bannon might rouse plenty of enmity, but the parts never quite come together into a compelling whole. Library Journal
Newspaper editor Monona "Mo" Quinn (Murder over Easy) and husband Doug have fled big-time Chicago for rural Wisconsin, but she's now involved with her second murder in three months. Shortly before morning mass, the altar server finds Father O'Bannon dead in the sacristy-his throat slit and a cross carved into his chest. Motives seem nonexistent until news of O'Bannon's personal wealth hits the streets. Mo, however, leans toward his opposition to a proposed highway expansion as the motivating factor. As Mo searches for suspects-while still meeting deadlines-she uncovers the truth. Fans of small-town mysteries will enjoy the solid plotting, prose, and characterizations. Cook lives in Madison, WI.
