Needled to Death (Knitting Mystery Series #2)

Like this series but a little slow miving

I really like Kelly and all the characters, but this like the first book in the series is a little slow moving. I powered through it and like how the book progressed and finished but it took a while to get through the beginning.

Nicely spun mystery for yarn heads

I've never been a big mystery reader, but as a self-described yarn addict, I was drawn to the title. In no time, I was drawn into the story by Sefton's friendly, small-town characters and an engaging plot involving Alpaca breeders. This author truly understands the love of yarn and knitting. The ending wasn't a huge surpise, but it was a very satisfying read. And by the time I finished the book, I was ready to start raising Alpacas!

Great read

I read this book right after finishing the first. I love how the characters are growing. They almost make me want to buy a ranch lol. Can't wait to get started on the next book.

Very fun read

I like how Maggie brings to life Jenny's 'knitting community'. Everyone is touched by the circle of knitting friends that happens around this small place away from it all.
It was a bit predictable but then I am not looking for 'heavy reading' - nice flow to the characters and all that yarn.

Another gem from Maggie Sefton

I wish I could personally thank Ms. Sefton, not only for writing a wonderful series with truly likable characters, but also for getting me back to my knitting. Every description of yarn - the colors and textures and patterns, oh my! - makes me want to run to the local yarn shop and get lost in the skeins. She's a great author. Her books are light and easy to get into. I thoroughly enjoyed this look into Kelly Flynn's action-packed life and I can't wait to read the rest of the series.

Small town murder solved with knitting needles!

This second book is a good follow up to the first. More town chacters are introduced as more of them are killed off! A fun, quick read with more knitting, murder and town drama! This series is a good companion series to the Goldie cooking/murder series by Diana Mott Davidson.

I want to read more in this series.

I also want to learn to knit.

Second Outing Shakier Than the First

In the second book in the Knitting Mystery series, Sefton's Kelly Flyyn is helping out her friend, the owner of the House of Lambspun knitting store, by taking a group of knitting tourists to a local alpaca ranch. When she arrives, though, she finds the owner stretched out on the floor of the house, in a rather premature condition of death, urged on by a blow to the head and a slit throat.

Sefton's first outing, "Knit One, Kill Two," was average at best in quality; diverting, with just enough puzzle to keep you guessing. This book is about the same -- perhaps slightly less satisfying. Without going into details that would give away the story, it felt as if the key clue was being thrust into your face at its revelation. When you're being hit over the head with the solution to the mystery, it does not feel like a very fun thing. Far better to do in the classic mold, a la Ellery Queen and Emma Lathen, and present the reader with all the clues in a fair chance to solve the mystery themselves. (Queen became famous for this approach; the audience was basically given a challenge to solve the case along with, or before, Ellery the protagonist did.) Ms. Sefton has written several more since this title; I can only hope that the quality picks up as I go along through the series.

Once again, though, the knitters in the reading audience would kill to get a chance to visit the House of Lambspun. The big old house filled with hand-spun yarns in every color under the rainbow, and its attached coffeehouse, is too good to _not_ want to visit. You'd love to pull up a chair before the big library table, sit beside Kelly's knitting friends, and haul out our needles while listening to them banter. The pity is that a lovely background does not make for a good mystery.

Alpacas and murder

Kelly Flynn volunteers to take a group of knitting tourists to visit Vickie Claymore's alpaca farm. Unfortunately when they arrive, she discovered Vickie dead on her original hand-woven rug.

Vickie's daughter Debbie hires Kelly to prepare financial documents for her mother's alpaca business for the attorney. As Kelly gets more involved in Vickie's business, she begins to dig deeper to find the killer.

Can she unmask the murderer without putting herself in his/her sites?

This is the second in this knitting mystery series. I have enjoyed both of them tremendously. I look forward to reading many more. The Colorado setting adds to the wonderful cozy mystery series. I really enjoy Kelly and the other women she knits with at the House of Lambspun. What a great cast of characters.

I highly recommend this book and series.

A great crafty girl mystery!!!

Kelly inherited a cottage, beside a golf course ,and next door to a knitters and weavers shop in Ft Connor, Colorado (fictional name for Ft Collins, Colorado). She is doing her Washington DC accounting firm job online from Colorado now. There are knitting patterns and recipes in the back of her books. Kelly has a wonderfully interesting golf ball chasing dog who is an intrigal part of much of her story. In this book, an alpaca rancher has been murdered in her ranch home and bleeds to death on her (what else?) beautifully hand woven alpaca wool rug. The descriptions of the scenery and animals are great. The relationship between the knitters and the weavers is great fun. AND...Kelly plays softball like a pro-------(and my St Louis Cardinals just came off of a seven game loosing....no creamed to death....streak----GO REDBIRDS!!!!). AND, there is the ever present boyfriend/ not boyfriend who keeps tension in the story. I was led astray by many clues so that I did not know who the killer was until almost the very end of the book. If this sounds interesting, you may want to start with the first in the series---KNIT ONE - PEARL TWO!!!!

Know your subject better

While Ms. Sefton is a good story teller, she should know her subject better. I was raised west of Ft Collins on a ranch and know a little bit about that. My family now ranches in Wyoming, and it takes 10.5 acres of land per cow, so if Ms. Seftons character, Kelly, inherited a 500 cow/100 sheep ranch it would have had to be at least a 8000 acre ranch. Sheep take about twice the amount of acres per animal that cows do. Also no self respecting cattle rancher would have sheep as they eat the grass down so low that you have to rest it longer before it can be grazed again. To bad all the old ranchers from around Ft. Collins were forced to sell out and move to other states, by the influx of newbies!

cleverly weaved cozy

In Fort Connor, Colorado, CPA, DC area transplant, and rookie yet die in the wool knitter Kelly Flynn escorts a group of tourists to a renowned alpaca farm owned by knitter extraordinaire Vickie Claymore in nearby Bellvue Canyon. When Vickie fails to show up with the expected friendly greeting to the group, Kelly enters the woman¿s remote home only to find her host dead blood everywhere, but especially on Vickie¿s priceless hand-woven rug. --- The county police headed by Detective in Charge Lieutenant Peterson investigate the homicide starting with containing the crime scene and interviewing the female visitors especially Kelly and one fussy mouthy guest. Kelly mentions to the cop that Vickie was irate and said so as she told her and their friend Jennifer Stroud she was divorcing Professor Bob Claymore because he was having an affair with another weaver, Eva Bartok. Unable to resist and thinking that the county cops were going down a wrong path by looking at the knitting club member s of the House of Lampspun, Kelly investigates the homicide. --- As with the cleverly weaved KNIT ONE, KILL TWO, NEEDLED TO DEATH is a fine yarn that has cozy fans trying to unravel the threads of who-done-it along side of the heroine. The story line is fun to follow as Peterson follows leads that take him in one direction while amateur sleuth Kelly assumes her club members are innocent so knits a different viewpoint on who killed Vickie. Sub-genre readers will enjoy this tightly stitched tale. --- Harriet Klausner
