I first read this book as monthly installments in field and stream magazine in the 1950s I was not lucky enough to know my grandfathers but had similar experiences with my father and uncles along the coast of Texas, the Tennessee River and the Tom bigbee in Alabama I bought the book and remembered many experiences from my own youth during the reading. The book is well written and was very true to life for the times before government became so deeply involved.
