Overview

After regaining her memories and saving the reptilian Hsktskt from a devastating plague, Dr. Cherijo Torin faces a different kind of epidemic—a mysterious black crystal spreading like cancer throughout the galaxy. A mercenary claiming to have information on the crystal’s origins leads Cherijo and her husband Duncan Reever to the planet Trellus, and maroons them there.

Trellus is a world under quarantine. Its colonists exhibit excessive paranoia and anger, taking out their frustrations in the Omega Dome in simulated combat against battle drones. But someone—or something—is killing victims outside the arena, leaving only their skins behind. Cherijo believes the black crystal infection is responsible for this horror—and that someone deliberately triggered the outbreak.

I have to admit, I'm not a fan of Jarn, but the series as a whole is awesome and I have faith that the end will satisfy.

Just bad, sloppy sci-fi. I normally won't bother to write a review but the plot cheating and overall stupidity required of the reader to accept the characters is beyond normal incompetence. Somebody might tell her that in anything resembling reality if you keep pulling deadly weapons on people somebody does get hurt, and normally fairly quickly. Also if you sort of just destroy a lot of people's equipment they tend to become irritated.

This is one of my favorite sci-fi series, although I pretty much like anything Viehl writes (and she writes under several names). Don't miss it!

I miss Cherijo!!!! I loved that character, not really liking this Jarn person. And don't really get how or why we should just accept that Chrijo is dead and we are now stuck with this person who can't even make sense with who she is. Can we get Cherijo back, there are hints that she is coming back but can we hurry it along????
