The unnamed narrator is a hard-working, Hollywood news producer who spends stressful nights at the station, helping to put together the usually depressing local news. She believes her husband, Charles, a middle-school teacher, spends his nights home alone grading papers until she gets a call from a distraught David Lawrence who claims his wife has run off with Charles. When our protagonist confronts Charles, he admits to the affair but says it is over and is reluctant to share the details the news producer in her craves. Her thirst for the truth sends her back to David, who has captured their cheating spouses' electronic correspondences thanks to a special software program. What she learns from those instant messages and email devastates her. Those expecting Dickey's trademark steamy erotica may be somewhat surprised here, as many of the graphic scenes are best described by the unnamed narrator, who says, "Sex without love is violence." Love is hell. Wifey. The wife. She doesn’t even have a name in the passionate e-mails Charles, a teacher, exchanges with his lover Jessica, a PE instructor. But she’s a real, live, fire-breathing woman, quivering with righteous anger when she finds out about the affair. Jessica’s husband, David Lawrence, calls her at work (she’s a segment producer for a local TV news show) to tell her that he just gave Charles a black eye in the school parking lot but decided not to shoot him. Oh--so that’s the real explanation for the shiner Charles said he got from breaking up a schoolyard fight. Looks like her husband is a cheating dog. She didn’t see it coming, didn’t know it had been going on for eight long months. How could he? Why would he? She always had a hot meal ready at the end of the day, and she never turned him down in bed. Like her mother always said, a woman has to be a woman to her man or some other woman would be. Things spin out of control real fast, and it’s not long before she’s having revenge-sex on the down-low with David, a moody artist who admires her dreadlocks and delicate freckles. He prints out the e-mails and she confronts Charles, who can’t deny it now--and heads off to take out his frustrations on a punching bag in the garage. Eric Jerome Dickey
Eric Jerome Dickey is a #1 Blackboard, Essence, and New York Times bestselling author with over four million copies of his books in print.

Biography

Eric Jerome Dickey was born in Memphis, Tennessee, and attended the University of Memphis (the former Memphis State), where he pledged Alpha Phi Alpha fraternity and earned a degree in computer system technology. In 1983, he moved to Los Angeles to pursue a career in engineering.

After landing a job in the aerospace industry working as a software developer, Dickey's artistic talents surfaced, inspiring him to become an actor and a stand-up comedian. He soon began working the local and national comedy circuit. In the early 1990s the aerospace industry took a downward turn and Dickey found himself "downsized," but took this as an opportunity to embark on a writing career.

Having written several scripts for his personal comedy act, Dickey started writing poetry and short stories. He joined the IBWA (International Black Writers and Artists), participated in their development workshops, and became a recipient of the IBWA SEED Scholarship to attend UCLA's creative writing classes. In 1994 his first published short story, "Thirteen," appeared in the IBWA's River Crossing, Voices of the Diaspora: An Anthology of the International Black Experience. A second short story, "Days Gone By," was published in the magazine A Place to Enter.

With those successes behind him, Dickey decided to fine-tune some of his earlier work and developed a screenplay called Cappuccino. Cappuccino was directed and produced by Craig Ross Jr. and appeared in coffeehouses around the Los Angeles area. In February 1998, Cappuccino made its local debut during the Pan African Film Festival at the Magic Johnson Theater in Los Angeles and is currently on the film festival circuit.

Dickey's book-signing tours for Sister, Sister, Friends and Lovers, and Milk in My Coffee took him coast to coast and helped propel these novels to No. 1 on the Blackboard bestsellers List. His books have been featured in many publications, including Essence magazine and USA Today, and have appeared on the bestseller lists of The Los Angeles Times, Blackboard, The Wall Street Journal, and The New York Times. Dickey has appeared as a guest on many television shows, including BET's Our Voices and CNN's Sunday Morning Live.

    No he didn't

    The ultimate power woman, has the job, the great sex life, and the dotting husband¿.until she discovers the other woman.
    In The Other Woman by Eric Jerome Dickey takes you into the perfect household until a peek behind closed doors paints a vastly different portrait.
    This book has great sex scenes, suspense, and the bumpy ride that happens when you go beyond a couple bliss into threes a crowd lunacy.

    Umm...

    It's been a while since I've read one of EJD's books, but I guess this was was okay. The story was kind of predictable to me. If you're looking for a drama-filled book, this is it! I wish it ended differently, but I guess that would've been predictable as well...

    Love and Hate

    This story hit so close to home and many times brought tears to my eyes. Love and hate are two things that can not and will not strive without each other. EJD did a wonderful job portraying these factors.This book jumped from high to low to high for me. In the end it was a very pure to betrayal read. I enjoyed it. The middle got really slow, I was wondering what would happen, when would somebody get to something but low and behold it came full fledged and drowned me in a pool of deception.

    Interesting Read

    Although I didn't care for the drawn out illustrious descriptions of scenes throughout the book, overall I enjoyed the storyline. Surprisingly, the characters repeatedly stunned me with their actions. I was definitely captivated and could hardly set the book down for more than a day at best. I enjoyed this book by EJD.

    Eric writes how infidelity lives

    Having experienced the drama and passions of infidelity on both sides of the offense I truly appreciate the author's candor and insight. He takes the reader through the process from each player's perspective; and I might add the trial between the four offenders is a game. One of war and possession.

    The character voices were real and vivid. Although, Mr. Dickey should have stayed within the male characters as his desires and language used for Freckles were too "Dyke" for my tastes. This swayed my opinion of this character. Sometimes feeling she was unreal. I understand that she was probably "bi sexual" thus his references to the Swinger establishment. But perhaps he used the concept of an alternative haven for sex as a remedy for infidelity who knows.

    The work helped me through some backward looking emotions I had this weekend and I am grateful. Thank you Eric Jerome Dickey

    very touching

    This book is very touching and can have a person question their own relationship.I actually thing that the ending went very well with the plot because it was a realistic decision.I would recommend it to any couple whether they are at a rocky point or not

    wow

    this book had me guessing from the begining.the characters we written up beautifuly,and although the book is ficition some can relate.the ending was just okay for me,but hey to each is on.i would recommend this book to anyone wanting to curl up by the fireplace a read.the book had all the elements for me suspense,drama,romance,and thrill.i hope you enjoy reading the other woman as much as i did.

    was it worth it

    ERIC really captured the pain of a woman when her husband has betrayed their marriage, every emotion behind closed doors unanswered question . The danger of going outside of your marriage , this is the kicker how the passion of pain wants to be release anyway it can , rather it is abusive or lustful it does not matter as long as the revenge is the motive.

    I Love this Book!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    I am a big fan of Eric Jerome Dickey. I am not all that big of a reader but I have read four of his books. This one I finished in two days! He appeals to someone like me who needs an easy read and needs something to keep my attention. This book did it for me.

    Wonderful Book!!!

    This book had me hooked from page 1... I read this book within 3days... Im in high school, I was reading this book in the hallway between classes and in class I would finish my wrk as quick as possible just to get back to this book!!! The end of the book was amazingly different then what I planned it out to be... GRRRRREEEEAAAATT BOOK!!!!
