Overview

Ryan Buell, star of the hit A&E series Paranormal State, takes us behind the scenes of his most intense supernatural encounters.

Follow Ryan Buell on his extraordinary journey as he seeks out the truth behind terrifying demonic disturbances, hauntings, and paranormal phenomena to solve unexplained mysteries that have been plaguing frightened families who have nowhere else to turn.

In Paranormal State, Buell gives readers a chilling, in-depth look at some of the most disturbing cases—including some that have never been aired—revealing startling new facts and incredible new discoveries. Buell relives the origins of the Paranormal Research Society—discussed here for the first time—and the strange path his life has taken since the show's beginning. With unparalleled candor, Ryan discusses the intriguing mysteries, the difficult decisions, and the struggles with questions of faith, sanity, and the very concept of reality.

Meet the Author

Born in the Bronx, Stefan Petrucha spent his formative years moving between the big city and the suburbs, both of which made him prefer escapism. A fan of comic books, science fiction and horror since learning to read, in high school and college he added a love for all sorts of literary work, eventually learning that the very best fiction always brings you back to reality, so, really, there's no way out. He first came to prominence as the author of the best-selling X-Files comic book series, based on the TV show and has since written eighteen novels including Timetripper, The Shadow of Frankenstein, and The Rule of Won. His recent work includes, Paranormal State: My Journey Into the Unknown (co-authored with A&E star Ryan Buell), Split, Diary of a Stinky Dead Kid, and the upcoming Dead Mann Walking. He currently lives in Western Massachusetts with his wife and fellow writer Sarah Kinney and their two daughters.

    Amazing!

If you follow the show Paranormal State (which you should or why else read this book?), you will appreciate Ryan's candidness and behind the scenes details for most of his first seasons investigations. Great read and never boring!

This book started a little slow to me, as at first, it seemed to mostly rehash various cases we had already seen on TV. However, as the book progressed, Ryan seemed to share more of his personal beliefs and experiences which made for a more interesting read. I was very impressed when Ryan revealed his bisexuality and discussed how it impacts his religious beliefs. As a gay Christian myself, I enjoyed learning his point of view. I was a bit disappointed that he didn’t elaborate more on his personal paranormal experiences as a child. He has alluded to them on TV, but I have never heard in detail what happened to him. I feel there are certain people that could be helped very much by reading this book.

Unprofessional sample of hearsay and inaccuracies

Buy this book if you want to read complaining and whining about everyone involved in the show and it's clients. His 'coming out' is no surprise to anyone but were we really needing to confirm this in a book in hopes to sell more copies?

Highly Recommend, if you are interested in the paranormal.

Ryan Buell gave background information, which was very interesting. And, he added information left out of the TV program. Another thing I liked was that at the end of the book he recommended authors to read in order to get additional information.

If you love the paranormal or the show, you should definitely read this book. As someone who doesn't usually enjoy reading, I could hardly put this book down. I was even a bit sad when I finished it in 3 days. I appreciated how honest he was in everything he said, and it was so interesting to read about all of the stuff that happened throughout the cases that never got aired in the episodes.

    For Lover's of the show

I bought this book because in the intro to the show, Ryan says he had experiences as a child. I was curious about that. This book is great because it tells you everything you can't see, feel, or hear during a 30 minute episode. There are also crew bios and references. Great book...highly recommend!

    Couldnt put it down :)

Thank you Ryan for this awesome read. I often found myself reading in my head with your sexy voice.Lol. I gave the book four stars only because I really wish he would have written more about his paranormal activity. I love the show and I love the book. I loved all the extra tidbets of information that didn't get put into the show. It was like a mini guide to each episode but also more info on the prs as a team and how they go about with investigastions .Ryan is truly amazing and I love how he and the team are personable with each case. I would really love to see Ryan write another book soon maybe for each season or just another look into how he is dealing and healing with his cancer and how he has been affected by everything since he started and finished paranormal state.

A must-read if you're a fan of the show! I loved Ryan openness and honesty. The only thing I can say I was disappointed in was interviews with Occult Specialist Eilfie.  She comes across as snippy, bitter and just plain nasty to her fellow cast mates. She must be a real charm to work with, ugh..

being a big fan of the show I truly enjoyed the book. I was kind of disappointed that Ryan didn't go more into detail about his childhood experience. He always talks about it happening to him but the main reason I bought the book was to find out what happened. His matertial is always well researched and dealt with with utmost sincereity. If you like the show you'll like the book.

    Ehh

The ghost related stories were more of a retelling of Paranormal State episodes. What he tells you about himself was more interesting to me because I've seen all the PS seasons. The book might deserve four stars, but I gave it three because the way it was written bored me. I began wishing it was the end of the book already. I felt like I had to read the whole thing with a monotone voice.
