Overview

Learn how to make a 3D picture frame with 3D extrusions and beveling, use layout and lighting to create eye-catching 3D text and employ the power of Photoshop to produce realistic cotton and denim materials.

A lot of every day objects can be be modeled quickly and easily with the powerful 3D tools in Photoshop, and what’s more natural for Photoshop users that a 3D picture frame? In "Simple Beveling - A Picture Frame" we show you how to make a picture frame around an image using 3D extrusion beveling options. Now you can take your best 2D image and show it off in your own 3D gallery.

Once you’ve created a few 3D objects, you’ll naturally want to combine them into a cool 3D scene. In "3D Layout Concepts" we show you the basics of working with different 3D views and moving your 3D objects around.

3D text is a killer feature in Photoshop Extended: adding the third dimension really makes titles and copy pop off the page or screen and gets your work noticed. In "90 Degree Text Layout" we’ll build on your knowledge of extrusion and layout to create a pleasing 3D text design. You’ll learn the basics of lighting your 3D models in "3D Lights Overview", see how to render your 3D scene in "32 Bit Rendering" and post-process your rendered image in "Adjusting Exposure". At the end, you’ll have a completely polished 3D text image.

Materials are vitally important to making vibrant, interesting 3D images. In "Making Cotton and Denim", we will show you how materials are created in Photoshop by creating two common fabrics.

Photoshop Dimensions is the magazine of 3D in Adobe® Photoshop®.
