When a female Shifter comes to town seeking refuge, Feline Shifter Sean Morrissey claims the new arrival and finds a beautiful woman who looks him straight in the eye without fear, stirring the mating frenzy within him.

To relocate to a new Shiftertown, half-Fae, half-Shifter Andrea Gray must accept a new mate. But Andrea's intense attraction to Sean is something she never expected-a perilous complication for a woman with a troubled past.

Editorial Reviews

Publishers Weekly
Ashley, who writes urban fantasy as Allyson James, follows her 2010 paranormal romance, Pride Mates, with another sexually charged and imaginative tale. Humans force shape-shifters to live in shantytowns and wear fae-made magical collars that keep them from using their animal powers. Half-fae, half-lupine shifter Andrea Gray, fleeing a forced mate-claim in her hometown, heads to the Shiftertown in Austin, Tex., where she gets protection from a mate-claim in name only with feline shifter Sean Morrissey. In a twist on the pretend marriage trope, the contract gives decidedly nonsubmissive Andrea and alpha male Sean license to explore their burning passion in electrifying detail. Andrea's mysterious, surprising background and special abilities enhance the plot, as do the interesting supporting characters. Occasional clunky backstory dumps will help new readers grasp the many story line intricacies, and returning fans will love the quick pace and smart, skilled writing. (Mar.)

    Supersedes Book 1

I was lucky enough to win an advance reading copy of Primal Bonds from Jennifer Ashley's facebook page.

Once again Jennifer Ashley brings us to her Austin, TX Shiftertown in Primal Bonds, book 2 of her Shifters Unbound series. Here we find the Feline Shifter Sean Morrissey, Guardian of his clan and powerful member of his pride. Sean's job as the Guardian could be a really lonely one. When his neighbor's niece needed to relocate from her Shiftertown in Colorado, seeking shelter, he offers her his protection. When Sean met her he found a little Lupine Snifter that could look him in the eye. That was the last thing that he had expected. And he had just mate-claimed her.

Half Fea and half wolf Shifter, Andrea Gray had long become acquainted to looking after herself but she needed a new protector in order to escape an unwanted mate-claim. She thought that a Guardian would fit the bill nicely. However, she wasn't expecting the intense attraction that she felt for her rescuer when she first looked into his blue eyes.

Andrea struggles to keep her mating of convenience platonic. Sean plans to turn his mate-claim into the real thing. Will her mixed blood and troubled past, as well as her stubbornness keep him from truly claiming his mate?

Jennifer Ashley truly outdoes herself in this novel. She made me feel hate, sadness, and elation as I read her words. As in the first book in the series, discrimination and prejudice is clearly addressed and challenges the reader to look at a fictional situation and perhaps see the similarities in our own culture. I for one appreciated the way that she addressed the volatile situations as or hero and heroine fought in all ways to be by each others sides. The story easily sweeps us along on Sean and Andrea journey to their HEA. And a HEA is what they get in this awesome and sexy book.

A musy read for utban fantasy lovets

Humans keep shapeshifters in run down squabble. They also insist the beasts wear fae created collars to insure these monsters are unable to use their animal nature.

Half-breed fae-lupine Andrea Gray flees from a potential mate who insists she belongs to him. She arrives at the Shiftertown section of Austin where she hopes to find protection. Feline shifter Sean Morrissey, who possesses the powerful shifter soul release sword, claims her as his mate though he does so in name only to keep Andrea safe. As the two alphas begin to investigate their desire for one another, they fall in love, but each fears to raise the issue of being true life mates as he expected no one due to his sword's skill and she has always detested the concept of belonging to any mate even as she knows he is not just any mate.

The latest Shifters Unbound urban fantasy (see Pride Mates) is an enjoyable thriller as the Ashley mythos is further developed with a sense that shifters exist and what happens in Austen is genuine. The story line is fast-paced with the sexual taut relationship between the feline and the lupine cutting across the action packed tale. Readers will enjoy the Primal Bonds between two alphas who mate at the drop of a page to the delight of fans.

    Good reading!

Love Ms. Ashley's storylines, but seems like there is far too much "romance," and not enough story telling. The concept of this series is great. Her 99 cent book, "Bodyguard" is what got me started reading her books. So far, that's her best book in my estimation.
