Editorial Reviews

From Barnes & Noble
The Barnes & Noble Review
Revenge couldn't come any sweeter -- or hotter -- than it does in bestselling author Beatrice Small's first contemporary novel. Picture a placid suburban community filled with stay-at-home moms. When one of them, Nora Buckley, is dumped by her husband, her Monday morning coffee klatch decides to boost Nora's spirits: They tell her how to order up The Channel, a techno miracle that transports Nora to an alternate fantasy universe where she arrives looking younger, fitter, and infinitely more attractive. No wonder two hunky men vie for her attention; no wonder it's easy to fulfill any -- no, make that every -- sexual fantasy she's ever had. How all this sexual gratification enables Nora to regain her confidence and turn the tables on her philandering husband, sabotage his upcoming marriage, and foil his plot to cheat her out of all their assets is completely satisfying. Small, the author of innumerable steamy historicals, serves up a fusty contemporary told for the most part in a 1950s schoolteacher singsong: "This was certainly the wildest dream she had ever had. While she was a little afraid of it, it was also very exciting. None of it was really happening, of course. Yet what if it was real?"Bottom line: the dated dialogue and empty-nest milieu don't make romantic (or erotic) magic, and the crude language may offend some readers.

    Pretty Good

This wasn't my favorite erotic story but it was still pretty good. I was glad to see that the rotten husband got what was coming to him; however, I was a little surprised by the ending. If your looking for something dramatic and eye opening, check out this book!

    Sexy!

I honestly just bought this book for the cover and held off on reading it. However, once I started, I could not put the book down! Bertrice Small brings erotica to such great heights. It's a very sexy piece. Anyone looking for a hot buy, this is it!

I'd like to order The Channel, please!!!!!

I didn't want to buy this book at first, and put it off for a long time. It just didn't sound like anything I'd want to read. Finally, after running out of Bertrice Small's books to read, I bought it, and...WOW!!!! What a book!! I couldn't put it down and I was certainly not disappointed!! This is the type of Take-You-Away book that you don't try and figure out. You just go with the flow and...ESCAPE!! Isn't that what it's all about??!! Not for the prudish and not for the fans of Nora Roberts and Danielle Steel. But then, this is what sets Bertrice Small apart (and above) from all the rest...her marvelous abilities and daring as a writer. If you've read any of her other books, you'll see that this is quite a departure and that's what makes her a Super Star as a writer in my eyes. I eagerly look forward to Forbidden Pleasures and anything else Bertrice Small writes!

    the devils advocate

this book remind me of the movie the devils advocate with al pacino, scary, funny, and evil, it make you think of your own sexuality, and let you have a open mind to try differen thing in your sex life, it also let you be aware of you life and that you should never put you entire life in the hands on any one, you should always be in charge of your own life, we here at me too shoes read the book and pass it around to all the woman in the company and it is so much fun the things we all taugh about the book, we talk about it every day, we even mention it to a couple of the guys about the channel.

    A Lively lady at www.bertricesmall.com

Though The Channel is a hot and heavy fantasy station all women would love to have. Look past the sex for one second and read the real story of Nora. Women are all to often unprepared for relationship devistation. Take to heart what Nora faces and never let yourself be unprepared. Bertrice Small has given great insight and advice through Private Pleasures, ladies. Don't skip not one page and learn all you can because this is the real world regardless of the channel and the sexcapades Though I really really really want The Channel...

    Too pornographic

Too much of the same thing, sex and more sex. OK if you like porn. I read her books for the historical descriptions of clothes, food, how events were celebrated, as well as the romance of that time. This book was very dissapointing. I skipped through most of it, hoping it would get better.

Ms. Small - Go back to what you do best.

Very disappointed. This is well beneath this authors talent. I hope it is the last of this type as she wastes her storytelling skills with this trash. If you need another book have the publisher reprint 'Adora'.

    Distasteful, Crude at Best

The main character comes across as mean spirited in a weird fantasy mumbo jumbo book. This purchase was a definite waste of money.

ok until you read the ending

I was looking forward to a contemporary romance by this author. The story line was a little iffy but plausible with a some imagination. The only thing that turned me off to the book was how it ended. Usually the heroines have the typical romantic/promising future. The way this 'heroine' was depicted at the end of the book left me a little sad and kind of disturbed.

    A good erotic romance

Forty-nine-years old Nora Buckley knows that her spouse Jeff is cheating on her. Already depressed she is shocked when her four Ainsley Court coffee mates inform her that Jeff has been on the prowl for years. Adding to her melancholy is that her daughter is starting law school and her son is graduating high school; Nora fears the empty nest of being alone. Instead of ire and depression, the fearsome foursome females suggest she go to the Channel to obtain the fantasy of her life. Nora heeds their advice and when she tries the Channel; Kyle and Rolf appear and star with her in her deepest sexual dreams...................................... When Jeff asks for a divorce Nora is so calm and so what about it, he becomes angry. He is even more stunned when she announces his lawyer will speak to her attorney about the divorce settlement. As Nora lives her most delightful sexual fantasies through the Channel, though it may not be real, she does not care as she now rediscovers the promise she had as a college student that she gave away to become Jeff¿s rug rat so many years ago..................................... This quad X tale should be dubbed The Cable Channel and Miss Jones (though the only devil is Jeff) as readers obtain a wild contemporary tale of sex and the rejected first wife club member. The story line is weird, but perhaps virtual reality and interactive TV will produce sex partners in a world in which cyber relationships are part of the norm. Though the story line lacks substance, fans of erotic erotica will enjoy this tale just keep the remote handy and not just to press buttons.............................. Harriet Klausner
