    super Regency romantic mystery

Two years ago they married, but failed to consummate the act before she vanished. Verity Thompson, daughter of a late inventive and successful iron making firm, was assumed to have died, but legally since no body existed seven years must pass before she is declared dead. Her husband, frustrated Lord Grayson Bridlington, failed to get one pence that he needs to help his tenants.

Now, the Earl with his recently married friend Summerhays (see Ravishing in Red) finds Verity alive and well living on a country estate. He insists they are married while she insists they annul the marriage as she was coerced by her odious guardian her cousin Bertram who extorted her cooperation by threatening a mother and son she loves. As the couple becomes acquainted they begin to fall in love, but the specter of her missing Michael stands in their way.

This is a super Regency romantic mystery starring two likable individuals who come from different walks of life with plenty of issues between them. The story line is fast-paced as Madeline Hunter provides another strong historical focusing on an independent woman and the earl with a temper who is unsure whether to strangle her or kiss her. Fans will enjoy this fine tale as well as its predecessors knowing two Rarest Bloom ladies to go (and hopefully the fascinating Castleford too).

    I Also Recommend:

    Above Average Romance

I've always enjoyed Madeline Hunter, as her style of writing generally puts her a few cuts above many other authors in the genre. Several of her recent titles have felt a little below her usual level, but this new series is nearly back to form. 'Provacative in Pearls' is the second in the Rarest Blooms quartet, after 'Ravishing in Red.'

Verity Thompson is independent and resourseful, but so consistently distrustful of her estranged husband, the Earl of Hawkesville, that you occasionally want to shake her. Hawkeswell is equally strong willed, and struggles with his temper. Fortunately, both demonstrate measurable, believable character growth thoughout the story. Put the two of them together, pit them against villianous and/or annoying relatives, join them with memorable friends - it makes for a great fast read. I picked the book up expecting to glance through it for a few minutes and ended up late for a meeting because I had gotten into the story so quickly. Would definitely recommend.

    Humm..Alright.

First off the plot of the story is good..However, and yes there is one, I do not reccommend this book. It is S L O W! It took my 4 days to finish it, because it was not good enough to engage my mind completely. The only thing I can say is, if you want to, read it, but its not anything other than a book to fill in a few days of your time. Don't expect much.
