Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Phyllis Kennemer
The Westfield eighth grade football team has never beat the opposing Huskies. Westfield's quarterback, Carlos, hopes to break the long losing streak. Carlos will be calling the plays during the game. He is a good player and a fast runner, but he seems to ignore the strengths of his teammates. Carlos makes some bad calls at the beginning of the game and at halftime Westfield is down, 14-0. The coach reminds Carlos that a good quarterback does not try to be a superstar on his own, but rather plays to the strengths of his teammates. Carlos takes the advice seriously enabling others to make two touchdowns before it works out for him to make the final score in the last minute to win the game. Includes a glossary, discussion questions, writing prompts, and facts about quarterbacks. Also includes addresses for websites with related games, puzzles and information. A good choice for reluctant readers in middle grades. Part of the "Impact Books" series. Reviewer: Phyllis Kennemer, Ph.D.
