Dink, Josh and Ruth Rose get involved when they are sleeping in the barn and see a car's headlight in the field. A fire brings out the fire department and it seems to be a way to get the fireman away so that the duck bank with the money collection can be stolen. The kids finally wind up in quicksand while trying to track the thief. The firemen are helpful in the identification of the thief and in the rescue of the children.     Um, okay...

    This book is not the greatest Roy has written. Just like in all of the other books, something is stolen, only this time from the fire station. The town has been saving for a bridge for ducks, so someone steals the money. The three kids go trailing after the thief and find themselves in quicksand!
