16 year old Eden Matthews has been in and out of private schools for the last two years. She can't seem to stop herself from closing them down. Kingsley is her last chance to finish high school and the last private school willing to accept her.

She is focused on just getting through graduation until she realizes Kingsley is not like the other private schools she's been to. The students may be different, but so is she. And after meeting Kiran Kendrick, the boy who won't leave her alone and seems to be the source of all her problems, she is suddenly in a world that feels more make-believe than reality.

To top it off, she is being hunted by men who want to kill Kiran and her best friend Lilly is taken away to a foreign prison. Eden finds herself right in the middle of an ancient war, threatening everything she loves. She alone has to find a way to save her best friend and the boy who has captivated her heart.

Reckless Magic is an intricate story about mystery, adventure, magic and forbidden love. Eden Matthews is an unlikely heroine determined to save the world and be with her one, true love before it's too late.

Meet the Author

I was born and raised in Nebraska, but spent my college years traveling the world. I fell in love with Eastern Europe, Paris, Indian Food and the beautiful beaches of Sri Lanka. But I came back home to marry my high school sweetheart and now I spend my days raising our growing family. In those few spare moments I have, I am either reading or writing Young Adult Fiction, because I am Obsessed with it!
Five other things I'm obsessed with right now:
1. My Kuerig Coffee Machine. Genius.
2. 90's music. Oh man, I might not have understood the 80's but the 90's speaks right to my soul.
3. Chocolate smelling body wash. Who doesn't want to walk around smelling like a bakery?
4. E-Readers. Probably my favorite invention of all time! Well, other than indoor plumbing....
5. Bubble Blast. Way better than Angry Birds. Way too addicting. And Way fun!!!

I passed by Reckless Magic twice, until I finally just went ahead and downloaded it (because, hey, it was free!). It turned out to be one of the best decisions I've made. Reckless starts off a little slow and I wasn't sure I wanted to keep reading. The prologue is written in third person and I was a little worried the whole book would be like that. Thankfully it wasn't and the first chapter was set in our main characters POV, first person POV that is. Eden is one of the better heroines I've read about and I can honestly say the only thing that bothered me was her inability to come to conclusions on her own. Otherwise, I loved her dialogue and attitude. I feel this way about all the characters. They had good personalities and were likable and relatable. (Though I did want to strangle Avalon sometimes.) And can I just say how I love the names of the characters? Avalon, Karin, Lucan, Talbott, Jericho, seriously, I love them. One thing this book is good about is it continues on and never gives long, unneeded rambling passages or info dumps. It's not stagnant in any way and the pace has a nice flow. I love this so much, because I hate massive info dumps, when information is given it's given in such a way that it's not overloading. There are a few things to nitpick about. Kiran is often described as having a smirk, it was really one of the only facial expressions he was described as having. There are grammar mistakes and words/phrases that are used over in the same paragraph and a few times I had to go back and read over what I just read because it had jumped to another part. The only thing I can say I didn't like about it, was when certain important characters were talking, they might mention some- thing important and it won't be commented on until paragraphs later. Or certain facts might be mentioned several times in several different paragraphs. --This only happens maybe 4 times at the max. None of these things deteriorate the story. In the beginning, I do think it read like another popular novel, but by the times I was about 11% done I could see it had it's own little style that it was totally addictive. Yes, this book is highly addictive and I couldn't hardly stay away from my computer. Thanks to Reckless I even missed a few meals (though I admit I brought a huge bowl of ice cream and ate while I read). I'd really love to have a hardcopy of this, but it's only available in ebook format at this time. I'm anxious to begin book number two now in what is said to be a 4-part series. I seriously can't wait to see what is in the future for the star-crossed lovers.

Very well written. It is nice to have a long, quality read for free. I finished it in less than two days since I found it hard to put down. Great for teens and adults. Can not wait for the for the next three books of this four part saga!

Reckless Magic was one of the best books I have ever read! As I started reading this book, I didn't think it would be that exciting. But once I got to maybe the third or fourth chapter, I couldn't stop reading! I would totally recomend this book to all of you who like magic and a little romance. :-)

One of the best books I've ever read! I couldn't stop reading and I loved all the characters (but I didn't get why most of the guys had long hair). But anyways it was still good and for free too!

Great, addictin read. Can be dramatic, especially Eden with her crying and POV. But I enjoyed this book and I eally want to read the next one. Has romance, drama, some adventure/action. Its mainly centered around her, her twin, and "offically the love of [her] life." As quoted from the book. The romance is pretty sweet but can be a little yucky annoyingly dramatic a few times. Very addicting :)

I fell in love with this book and finished it within 24 hours and I'm sad that it's over now. The fact it's just the first book of four has made me over joyed and enthralled. I love the way the story is written but there are a few minor problems you'll just have to over look (IE: how Kiran was carrying Eden's backpack and then stormed off, I don't recall him ever removing the bag and it made me confused for only a moment) but the character designs and events over shadow the small details. If you are looking for a light romance that's fun to read, this is highly suggested. Its easy to follow and is well explain. :) Enjoy!

This book is a must read. While the target audience is clearly teens, the story line did not lose me at any point. A bit of Romeo & Juliet, only this girl has guts to fight. The author has a clear vision of the world she has created. My only fault is with her editor who did not check grammar and punctuation well enough. However, I've amost finished the second book and I cannot wait to read the third! It's free, it's charming. Take a risk.

ok so I am not a pre-teen but I love YA novels. However, from the reviews it seems like it doesnt take much to please the audience for this novel. The manifested love between the star crossed teens seemed so baseless and literally developed with barely any support. I mean seriously it was like "I love him" in 2 days. At least w/ Twilight some time passed before bella was like she'd die to be with Edward. So for me the love is not supported enough for what they been through. Aside from that the other parts of the book are interesting especially the history between the Immortal species and many of the other characters are really interesting. I will keep reading even though I have yet to buy into the couple in the book.

Great story line. New and refreshing. There are errors but most can be overlooked. The charachters are very well thought out and believable (in a sci-fi way). The only problem i had is Eden is too dumbed down in parts. I mean u know whats happening, every character in the book knows whats happening, why the heck doesnt she, the one it is happpening to! That would be the only change i would make.

I did love this book. However Eden did annoy the hell out of me, I recall rolling my eyes at her more than a few times. She was so naive and too hung up on Kiran.

..give them a stronger sense of their own agency, and find yourself a good copyeditor. Laziness on both accounts. Certainly readable, but it's not giving young women a sense of their own ability to control a relationship. Higginson is continuing the trend of self-published writers who refuse to pay attention to basic word accuracy.

Oh this was terrible. It wasn't that the writing was bad because the author clearly has skill, but the main character was BEYOND stupid, to the point where it became laughable. Really the only thing that kept me reading was the uninentional humor of the whole thing. Also Kiran was supposed to be romantic and swoon worthy but only came off as really, really creepy, and I almost puked when I read about his dream walking stuff where he makes up this dream world so he can make out with Eden. CREEPY. The part where he shows up at Edens house when she barely knows him, corners her, kisses her, then leaves? CREEPY. And believe me when I say those sound mild when they're out of context like that. Reading the book and seeing everything lead up to a scene like that is terrifying.

Get it. This book will draw you into the entire series. This is one of the best free ebooks I've ever gotten. I finished all 4 books in 3 days. Worth every penny.

It is impossible to get beyond the grammar errors that make me embarrassed to say that I'm a teacher from Nebraska. I hope the author was home schooled.

When I first started reading this book, I hated Eden's personality. I thought that she was childish, grumpy, self-centered, and bipolar. Turned out that there was a reason why she was like that in the beginning. As I start reading more, I grew to like her and she's actually one of the best heroine from all the many books that I've read.

I really enjoyed this book! This is the first time of reading many different authors that I could relate too since I am living in Omaha. I thought the story was written very well along with the characters. I will continue to read Rachels' Star Crossed seires. I will be telling others about these books and author from my home town!

I give this book 3 to 4 out of 5 stars ... and each book in the series is better than the last. Honestly, I like this book. I can't say that I loved it. But it was interesting enough, so I read to the end ... just when I thought I might stop reading it, it got WAY TO INTERESTING ... and then you feel COMPELLED to read the next book ... and you're not disappointed with book number 2. The third was is even better and the fourth the best yet. This book is DEFINATELY worth the read. You will FALL IN LOVE with the characters. And they will stay with you.
