Overview

TRUE LIFE-AND-DEATH DRAMA

In taut, thrilling prose, Peter Canning has written a book that captures the rarely seen real world of emergency medicine. A seasoned paramedic who fights under enormous pressure to save lives, Canning trains new paramedics for the rigors of a nonstop, action-packed battle. From a four-month-old baby who has stopped breathing to a sixty-seven-year-old woman with a strange abdominal mass that threatens to explode--these are gripping true stories from the "ER on the streets." An exciting, often moving account, Canning tells a powerful story of camaraderie, selflessness, and courage as paramedics try to stand tall and human through both defeat and victory.

    I Also Recommend:

Peter Canning is simply the best, most realistic person writing

Peter Canning is simply the best, most realistic person writing about EMS. His style is easy to read, his stories are moving, and his medical descriptions are right on target. Great for the general public or fellow EMSers.

    Tells it how it is.

I couldn't put it down, even when the pager went off. This is excellent account of what it is to be a paramedic.

    Awsome book

Being an EMT-B in Merced County, I've seen a lot of grusome things. This book describes these things very well. I don't like to read very much, but I couldn't put this book down. I highly recommend this book to anyone wanting to know more about EMS, or wanting to know what goes on in other EMS agencies.

    An Excellent Collection of Reality

As a Firefighter/EMT en route to Medic, I found the book very enlightening and true to life. At times, I had to laugh at the stories of runs because I have been on many of the same types of scenes. And, since reading the book, I have had to chuckle at scenes because they are so similar to stories from Mr. Canning. I picked up a lady with a 1/4 in. superficial cut to her pinky who was on the phone to her Doc and needed transported by ambulance to get a Tetnus Shot. This was comical after reading something very similar. Cannings stories and feelings are real and 'from the Streets.' I appreciate the work he did and the experiences he shared. It makes bad situations seem a little easier knowing others out there are having the same feelings and BS situations comical knowing somewhere out there someone else is listening to the same story and running in an easy 3. Thanks Mr. Canning for you books.
