It's been years since bad boy Simon Riley hopped a freight train out of town and Ellen Kent's given up wondering what happened to him. Running a successful bed and breakfast in Oregon doesn't leave her a lot of time for fantasizing about midnight kisses and secret passion. . .until an unexpected visitor knocks on her door. Simon is back. She had no idea that he was a famous photojournalist, working in war zones around the world. But the man is everything she wants in a lover--and more. . .
The Midnight Hour
Dogged by trouble, Simon swore he'd never return to this backwater town, even to see El Kent. But he had to investigate his uncle's sudden death--and El's lush beauty still tempts him beyond belief. He knows he can satisfy her most hidden desire--and he's hungry for the sensual tenderness that only she can give.
The last thing Simon would ever do is hurt El, but someone is forcing his hand. Someone who will stop at nothing to keep the past dead and buried--even if means silencing the woman Simon loves. . .

This was the first book I read by McKenna and I can't wait to read more. Many romance novels are either all sex with no storyline or all storyline with little romance. McKenna does a fabulous job negotiating the fine line between the two. If you prefer sex scenes, she has them if you prefer storylines, her's are compelling with believable characters and draw you in from the beginning. Definitely a keeper.

The hero tries to be a little darker than necessary which comes across as immature but in the end nothing unexpected happens. It's strangely comforting to read about these two protagonists... childhood best friends who come together to fall in love after A LONG separation. The sex is steamy with a little raunch to add some spice for those who like it but its very sweet. My personal favorites were the secondary characters, especially Brad and Cora. I'd recommend it for the weekend/beach readers in need of a distraction.

Simon and Ellen have a history together, and come together after 16 years apart, and prove that love stands the test of time. Simon is trying to figure out what happened to his uncle, and meets El and stays at her b&b, and that's when the fun begins. Of course were supposed to love the main characters, but I really got a kick out of Cora, and I loved how her part of the story turned out. The ghost of mommy past was a little out there, but kudos for creativity. The story was a bit different from most of Shannon McKenna's books, but all in all a great read. I really wanted to know if Muriel and Lionel hooked up, but maybe in another book. Brad and Cora's story would also make a great book. I'm sure feisty Cora could find all kinds of interesting ways for Brad to make up for the last 17 years. Hope you enjoy it as much as I did. I couldn't put it down.

This is the 3rd book I've read of hers, and WOW... another great read for me. She has not only written a brilliant story, but characters you can feel, honestly I didn't put the book down until I was done!

This book skirts the edge of decency with the graphic sex over and over and over. I felt like I was reading porn.Frankly, after page 150, I tossed it in the trash. Too bad, she wastes her talent in this manner. Prefer a good story.

Excellent!!!! I could not put this book down. I read it all in a weekend and I didn't want it to end. This is my new 'favorite' book. I will read this one over and over, through time. Shannon is an excellent author. 'Return To Me' is a heart warming love story, with lots of GREAT steamy love scenes and the plot was Exceptional!! A real page turner for me. The only problem I have is that she isn't writing fast enough. Shannon is an author you know you can sit down and really enjoy. I recommend this book highly to those who like a good love story with steamy erotic love scenes. I also recommend her other books: 'Behind Closed Doors' and 'Standing In the Shadows' and her short stories in the anthologies she has written with other romance authors.

Return To Me by Shannon McKenna has all the hallmarks you love in her books¿ passion, laughter and suspense. Simon Riley is returning home to tend to his late uncles estate. When he was just a young man, he couldn¿t get out of town fast enough. Everyone had labeled him a bad seed, all but Ellen Kent. Ellen thought she had put her young love for Simon behind her. She is engaged to another man and running a successful inn. But seeing Simon again has made her question her true feelings. As Simon works his way back into her life, danger is lurking in the wings. Simon¿s uncles death was ruled a suicide but things are not adding up and someone wants to keep the truth quiet. Ellen and Simon have an attraction that is incredible. Each time they connect is more erotic and passionate then the last. Shannon McKenna tells a tale that will make you reach for the fan to cool off. She is an auto-buy for me and will be looking forward to her next book.

This is the third Shannon McKenna book I've read. I enjoy comtemporary romance, not the 'back in time' ones, and her three forays in this genre have hooked me on her writing. While of the three I have liked 'Behind Closed Doors' the best, then 'Return to Me' and lastly 'Standing in the Shadows', I would highly recommend fans of this type of book/story to read all three! Simon and El are long lost lovers who have come together again. I do feel he could have done a little less whining about being a 'bad boy', but that was part of his persona. Her explicit love scenes sure leave nothing to imagine, its all spelled out for you, but you get so into the characters, you want them to be in love in this fashion. Just wish she would write more quickly and this is the type of book I enjoy and tend to not put down until I finish it! Keep up the good writing Shannon, you have a fan in me!

Seventeen years ago Simon Riley fled LaRue, Oregon because of his crazy uncle and a stable fire he caused to become a famous photojournalist. He finally comes home to learn what happened to Uncle Gus, who five months ago apparently committed suicide. However, the email Gus sent that same day to Simon sounded paranoid not suicidal as his uncle mentioned he has proof that will shock everyone. Simon wants to find out what Gus alluded to though returning hurts............................... When Gus¿ house is not fit to stay in Simon takes a room at El Kent¿s B&B. She was his girlfriend when he left town and is angry with him for never returning for her. El treats Simon like a guest, not the person she always dreamed would come back for her. Simon is upset that she is engaged to Brad Mitchell as the attraction between him and El is still hot. She informs him that she never forgot him, but no longer lives for dreams. Neither realizes that the person who Gus was trying to expose is crazy and willing to kill again............................... This is an interesting romantic suspense due to the strong attraction between the two lead protagonists and a wonderful mystery involving the hero¿s uncle as holding proof of something or was delusional. Simon can become irritating with his saying that he only causes trouble and his constant leaving, but readers will root for him and the courageous heroine to make it. Though the villain is so crazy he could not hide his insanity as he did for decades, fans will enjoy this you can come home for a second chance at love.......................... Harriet Klausner
