Colorado Romance Writers Award of Excellence Finalist.

Behind the public façade of Blackthorne, Inc., a high-end private investigation company, lies a band of elite covert operatives, and they’re back doing what they do best.

Foster (Fozzie) Mayhew, Blackthorne’s Intel Specialist, is cocky and arrogant, befitting his Aussie heritage. Put him in a helicopter with his surveillance instruments and he can spot the fleas on a squirrel’s balls from five hundred feet. He’s happiest when he’s rescuing hostages, getting them to safety while Uncle Sam is still negotiating. But Fozzie’s boss pulls him from the work he loves and sends him to locate Victoria Hamilton, estranged daughter of a rich client.

Torie Stoker, born Victoria Hamilton, is hiding from her father who needs her at home and married. There’s no love lost between Torie and her family. They shipped her off to a Swiss boarding school when she was thirteen, and at twenty-nine, she’s never looked back. When her best friend, Kathy, dies, Torie settles in Oregon, determined to give meaning to Kathy’s death by continuing the botanist’s quest for rare plants with potential medical applications. When a man shows up with a gun, Torie realizes how badly her father must want her back.

Fozzie wants nothing more than to locate his target, report to his boss, and get back to his real job. When he finds Torie being dragged away at gunpoint, his protective instincts kick in. Soon, they’re racing to discover why her father sent armed men after her. Or could it have something to do with Kathy’s pharmaceutical research to cure orphan diseases? The answers threaten to change Torie’s life forever.

Rooted in Danger, the third in the Blackthorne, Inc. series, starts on a tropical island, and things heat up from there. Rooted in Danger will keep readers turning pages as the stakes—and romance–escalate.

Editorial Reviews

Publishers Weekly
Odell’s third Blackthorne Inc. romantic suspense (after Danger in Deer Ridge) sizzles as an heiress finds romance with an undercover operative. Foster “Fozzie” Mahew is assigned to find Victoria Hamilton, a young woman who has decided she doesn’t want anything to do with her extremely wealthy father. When Fozzie locates Torie in a remote cabin in Oregon, he is surprised to discover that others are on her trail, and what begins as a mission to return Torie to her father turns into a desperate attempt to outrun her pursuers. Along the way, Fozzie and Torie uncover hints that Torie’s best friend, Kathy, was murdered—and Torie, who was continuing Kathy’s scientific work, may be next. The suspense is an ever-present force, with danger enhancing the sensual and very real romance between a most unlikely couple. Agency: Tekno Books. (May)

The characters are also very well drawn so that even though their lives may be nothing like the reader's you can relate to the essential fears, hopes, and dreams that motivate them. If you haven't yet read any of Odell's Blackthorne, Inc. novels, don't worry you can jump in with any one of them because they can all stand on their own. Gumshoe Review

Meet the Author

Terry Odell began writing by mistake, when her son mentioned a television show and she thought she’d be a good mom and watch it so they’d have common ground for discussions.

Little did she know she would enter the world of writing, first via fanfiction, then through Internet groups, and finally with groups with real, live partners. Her first publications were short stories, but she found more freedom in longer works and began what she thought was a mystery. Her daughters told her it was a romance so she began learning more about the genre and craft. She belongs to both the Romance Writers of America and Mystery Writers of America.

Her titles include the Mapleton Mystery series, the Pine Hills Police series, the Blackthorne, Inc. series, as well as several stand alone titles and numerous contemporary romance short stories.

Now a multi-published, award winning author, Terry resides with her husband in the mountains of Colorado.

Plenty of action, a great romance, and who couldn't help but love Fozzie, that cocky Aussie member of the Blackthorne, Inc. team. Forced out of his element when he has to protect Torie, he comes through like a champ. Torie and Fozzie aren't the drop-dead gorgeous, never-do-wrong romance hero/heroine characters. They're real people, facing real-life problems, and that makes them all the more enjoyable. I plan to follow this author in the future.

I've been a fan of the Blackthorne series by Terry Odell since the first book When Danger Calls. The author manages to get a great blend of suspenseful plotting and sexy romance with the right touch of humor. Fozzie and Torie are well drawn and given plenty of motivation for their actions. Fozzie's resistance to Torie rings true as the sexual tension ramps up to a fever pitch. I especially liked the secondary characters of Brad and Carrie. They were given a good backstory that added a realistic note to the sleuthing. Looking forward to the next book in the series.

Terry Odell's Blackthorne novels are high adventure and this one

Terry Odell's Blackthorne novels are high adventure and this one does not disappoint.

Poor little rich girl Torie is in trouble, and she's not sure why. Someone killed her best friend, and now there's a man her doorstep wielding a gun. When fire breaks out in the remote cabin she's hiding out in, that man goes to great lengths to save her life. So why is he there?

Fozzie is losing out on vacation time chasing bikini clad women in order to rescue a daddy's girl who ran away. Not his first choice, but something about Torie runs deeper than his usual choice of female companionship. Before he can return her safely home, Fozzie discovers that there's more to Torie's story than a pampered runaway.

Ms. Odell's characters are well-drawn and the pace of the story keeps you running from danger right with the characters.

    more from this reviewer

Foster ¿Fozzie¿ Mayhew, an intel specialist from Blackthorne Inc

Foster “Fozzie” Mayhew, an intel specialist from Blackthorne Inc., is good at what he does, finding lost people. He tracks down Victoria Hamilton for her father. Torie Stoker, as this trust fund baby is now called, doesn’t want to be found, doesn’t want to bail his father out of his mess.

While Fozzie’s trying to figure out how to tell his boss, he can’t accomplish his mission, an attempt is made on Torie’s life. Fozzie grabs Torie and they stay one step ahead of danger. Worried her father has hired two men to find her, Torie finds it hard to know who to trust. But she trusts Fozzie, and a relationship develops as they try to figure out who has a bead on Torie.

Lots of action and adventure in this story. Fozzie is a dashing leading man, and Torie a smart, gutsy leading lady. Enjoyed the story.

    Excellent Read

I was almost intimidated with the number of pages to be read; however, it was a real page-turner. I enjoyed every moment and found it hard to find a stopping place. Just wanted to keep reading.

    Must Read!

I have only recently 'found' Ms Odell's books and I am so very glad I did! This was my first read after which I quickly picked up Danger in Deer Ridge which I read in one day and Where Danger Hides which is next on my list! Great characters, fine-tuned writing make for a great escape. Loved them all!
