The third book in the beloved #1 bestselling author's sexy, romantic suspense Slow Burn series…

They say young love doesn't last, but a girl from the wrong side of the tracks with unique abilities and the hometown golden boy were determined to defy the odds. For Zack Covington, Anna-Grace—his "Gracie"—was the one. Until one night forever alters the course of their future, when a devastated Gracie disappears without a trace, leaving Zack to agonize over what happened to the girl he loved. As the years pass, his desperate efforts to find her uncovered nothing.

Now working for Devereaux Security, he stumbles across a painting featuring a special place only he and Gracie would know. The image is too perfectly rendered for it to be coincidence. His Gracie must be alive. When he finally tracks her down, he is shocked—and heart-broken—to discover the wounded shell of the girl he once knew and still loves. Her psychic gifts are gone, and worse, she believes he betrayed her all those years ago.

Zack has enemies, and once his weakness is discovered, Gracie becomes a target for revenge. He'll have to save her before he can earn her trust and her love. And he vows they'll never be torn apart again.

Bank's high-action third Slow Burn paranormal romantic thriller (after In His Keeping) is a well-blended love story that takes readers on a mission of discovery and redemption. Zack Covington has spent 12 years searching for his first and only love, Anna-Grace. After suffering a gang-rape she believes was instigated by Zack, which resulted in the temporary loss of her mind-reading abilities, Anna-Grace has spent those 12 years trying to get past the brutality and the betrayal. When Zack comes across a painting of a place that's special to him and Anna-Grace, he finally gets the answers he's been searching for, while Anna-Grace has to work up the nerve to face the man she thinks is the mastermind behind her attack. However, their tension-filled reunion is interrupted when Anna-Grace becomes the pawn in Zack's enemies' game of revenge. Readers may feel cheated by constant separation of the lovers, but will admire their undying love and commitment to each other. Agent: Kim Whalen, Trident Media Group. (June)

In the series, this was mediocre at best. So redundant it became anniying. Over and over with the same page after page self talk. Somewhere there was a plot but even the ending was anti climactic burried in insecurities. Meh...

This book doesn't fit with the series, it is repetative and the story is awkward and doesn't flow or progress. I've read several books by this author and this one didn't do it for me.

This book is intense. As in I had to read it in short bursts. It's quite emotional and the pressure feels all too real. Zack and Gracie were the couple to be and the couple that never was. When Gracie experiences a horrific trauma at the hands of who she thinks is Zack she runs. Even years later that night haunts her. And when Zack finds after the same years for searching for her, all he wants to do is take her in his arms, and once again she runs. To her, he is responsible for killing what little love she had left in her heart and doing the unthinkable. Yet, the pieces don't add up for Zack, he can't understand why Gracie wouldn't want to see him when he's been searching for her since the day she left. When Zack finally puts all the pieces together - hell hath no fury like an alpha man who has his woman stolen and hurt. I do have to say, this is not your typical romance. It's light on the romance and heavy on the mystery/crime part. I still enjoyed the book, very much so. But I wish I had seen more love and connection between Gracie and Zack. It's there in their actions throughout the book, and the emotions that overflow, but it wasn't quite there in a togetherness sense. More like, they were having the loving and longing feelings, but separately and not sharing them. I almost wish the plot had resolved earlier to give these two the healing, and together time they deserved. But who says they didn't? The story doesn't end after "The End." That was more of a PSA for those whole year for Maya's romance, which she always delivers so well, this is a horse of a different color for her.  Again, I still enjoyed the book. As a book, and not categorized as a romance, it was incredibly enticing and definitely kept my attention. And how I lived for that ending! Whew! Zack ad Gracie definitely got their moment, and I reveled in it. Not many characters are due the kind of reunion Gracie and Zack were due and received. This is absolutely and enjoyable read, and blends well with the previous two books in the series! Happy Reading! *ARC provided by the publisher in exchange for an honest review*

I usually love MB books, but this book was so hard to read, it took several times to finish reading it.

While a bit longer with naratives than usual I loved this story. Zack's story touched my heart and made me cry. For those looking for a lot of steamy sex scenes this book is not for you. If you want a good storyline then this book is for you. Well done like always Mrs. Banks.

This book was so repetitive and honestly doesn't even give way to the issue in the previous books. As it being the last, you'd think there'd be more to it. I seriously skipped so many pages and bipassed the whole ending because it never went over any of my questions like most readers wonder. It had the potential to be a great last novel but it failed terribly. I did not want to write a review but it was just too big of a disappointment to not let others know how lacking of information there was. My questions never got answered. The plot never thickened. There was no resolution but a quick oh they're not relevant anymore but hey let's get married and forget we were supposed to come to a conclusion who the bad people are and why they were still doing what they are doing. Nothing. Awful ending to a good series.

The thoughts of the chracters were a bit repetative. As if they were used to stretch the book. The relationship between the chracters, action and curiosity about what Zack had done kept me reading.

Felt like the book was rushed in writing but really looonnnggg in reading. It just dragged with a lot of repetition. Actually skipped most of the end of the book. Skimmed reading. First two books were awesome, this one felt like it was dialed in.

As authors try to add every plot twist for something different forgetting that mixing all your colors left you with a muddy blob. Less is often more this is a BPL not buy page counter

The Slow Burn series is incredibly hard to put down once you've picked one of the books up, filled with suspense, pulse pounding action, romance and of course terrific story-telling, they are very addictive and you'll find time passing by very quickly so absorbed you'll find yourself in each and every one of the books. Safe At Last deals with a very sensitive matter, one that can at times be hard to read about but Maya has done a very good job of tackling the subject sensitively and with the compassion and delicateness that this story needed, there is a lot of violence towards women in this book but it's dealt with in a way that hopefully shouldn't offend or upset anyone in any way, and that is because of the strength and professionalism of Maya's incredible writing. While these books are primarily contemporary romantic suspense in nature, I also enjoy the heroines in each and every book having a psychic gift in some sense, adding a bit extra to the storyline and setting this series aside from it's counterparts. I look forward to the next installment, Wade and Eliza are a couple that I can't wait to read about, a highly recommended series that I can't get enough of.

Maya Banks' "Safe at Last" is the third book in the Slow Burn series. We get to hear Zack's story. Maya always finds a way to tease us with other characters and make us want to hear their story. Just like we were dying to hear Cole's story in her Sweet series, we wanted to know who Zack was and why he was so understanding of people with abilities. Once again, Maya has weaved together a complex backstory that makes you read and read and read without putting it down. I'll be interested to see if she does more with this series or with people with special abilities.

Love the author and this series. This book on the other had was a little flat reading. There was not much movement in the story. The main characters thoughts were most of the book, with the same things over and over. I like the build up of all the secondary characters for more books in the series.

5 Stars I was pulled right into this story. Book is packed full of suspense and twists and turns you will not be expecting. Maya knows just how to keep you turning the pages. I would recommend reading the below story before reading this one: Keep Me Safe (Slow Burn #1) In His Keeping (Slow Burn, #2) Anna-Grace was the love of Zach’s life until she disappeared. He has spent years searching for her. When he finally decides to move on with his life he stumbles across her. But she is afraid of him. Anna-Grace went through a horrific ordeal. She used to be able to read minds but ever since that night she can’t read minds. When Zach comes back into her life she wonders what kind of pain he will cause her this time. She is still trying to deal with the pain from the past. When they are forced together the secrets of the past comes out. Will Anna-Grace and Zach be able to deal with the past? Will they also be able to fight an enemy that is coming for them all? Will Anna-Grace ever get her powers back? After all the dust settles is there even a chance of something between Anna-Grace and Zach? Lots of secrets and questions are answered in this story but there are still more to be answered and can’t wait to see what Maya has in store for the rest of this series. Highly recommend this story.

4 heartbreaking, intense, page-turning, love conquers all stars! In October of 2014 I read my first book from Maya Banks. That book was the first installment of her Slow Burn Series, Keep Me Safe. Since that day I have been a fan. I have waited for every single new book in this series and I once again I was not disappointed! Safe At Last brings us the heartbreaking story of two people who embark on an emotional journey that will heal their broken hearts. Zack Covington can't forget his first and only love. Gracie was everything to him. Twelve years ago they were happy and in love, but one horrible night changed everything and Gracie went missing. Zack has looked everywhere for Gracie. Her disappearance has caused an emptiness in his heart and in his life. Working with DSS is all his time and with the help of his friends life goes on. When DSS gets a call for a special event Zack comes face-to-face with his Gracie. He is shocked to see she is alive and well. She is terrified of him, but she won't tell him why. As days go by, Zack and Gracie get closer together, but the horrible events of the past keep them apart. Will Zack and Gracie be able to find their way to one another again? Safe At Last is my favorite book of the series!  Zack and Gracie had such a strong connection. You could feel the love that Zack had for his Gracie. She was everything to him. My heart broke when I found out what happened all those years ago. Zack was such a strong character. He was determined to find out what happened to Gracie and once he did, he did not rest until she was safe and happy back in his arms. I have to admit that even though I connected with Gracie, she really got me upset at times. Zack was trying his best to make her feel comfortable and she kept on pushing him away. I understand why she did it, but Zack deserved a chance to know what happened to her all those years ago.  Most of this book revolves around the mystery of what happened twelve years ago. I did find that some of the scenes were repetitive, but that did not make me enjoy the book less.  A few people are out for revenge and that puts Zack, Gracie and the whole DSS crew in danger. That part of the book was extremely intense and scary at times. Danger is lurking everywhere around them. I was extremely happy for how things ended between Zack and Gracie. It was an emotional journey that these two shared. Zack's perseverance left me speechless! The way he loved and took care of Gracie made my heart melt! Gracie was cold with Zack most of the time, but he never gave up on her.  What I really loved about this book is that I got the chance to read about my favorite characters from the previous books. They all brought something special to Zack and Gracie's story. I have to admit that Eliza once again stole my heart! I am so happy to hear that she is getting her own book. The chemistry between Eliza and Wade is super intense! Safe At Last was an emotional reading journey about hope, forgiveness and healing. I highly recommend this series if you are looking for romantic suspense series that will keep you at the edge of your seat. I give Safe At Last, by Maya Banks, 4 heartbreaking, intense, page-turning, love conquers all stars!

This was a beautiful, emotional story. Gracie survived more than any one person should ever have to. She is a true survivor. Zack is the perfect match for her (a man we all would love to have). I absolutely live Zack and Gracie's story!!

Wow! This was a seriously emotional book. I loved every single minute of reading it. The characters were so real and the whole story just pulled me in. The emotional turmoil going on between Zack and Gracie along with the events that are happening to the whole group of people involved with Devereaux Security is enough to keep you on the edge of your seat. Zack and Anna Grace (Gracie) were high school sweethearts. When something horrible happened to Gracie while Zack was away at college, she ran and 12 years went by. That’s 12 years of her hiding and Zack thinking the worst had happened to her. I was itching for Zack and Gracie to talk to each other and straighten everything out. It’s obvious that they both loved each other deeply and were hurt by the events of the past. This was a wonderful story full of action, suspense, love, hate, misunderstanding, friendship, fierce protectiveness. The story line flowed well and everything had a natural feel about it. Everyone felt so real that I truly felt like I was reading about real people sometimes. Maya Banks truly has a way with words. 5 out of 5 stars!

I love a second chance story, but Zack and Gracie's story broke my heart. The reason for their separation twelve years ago is unknown to Zack, but it has made Gracie afraid of him. Unfortunately this tragic event is kept a secret for a large part of the book and it makes the story a bit repetitive. I get why Gracie feels the way she does towards Zack, but it really breaks my heart to see Zack hurt by her. It also keeps them from rebuilding their relationship, removing the romantic aspects until practically the end. It was still an enjoyable read, and I hope there are more books in the series. I received an ARC via Edelweiss for the purpose of an honest review. I was not compensated for this review, all conclusions are my own.
